Some friends were in Tibet this summer and observed that the Chinese military stationed there were carrying not only weapons, but also fire extinguishers.

If I ever open a BBQ joint I'm going to name it the Buddhist and offer long pig sandwiches, pulled pork on a six inch or foot long bun.

My friend and I planned that years ago. We were gonna call it "Buddha's BBQ" and among other things, offer politically incorrect food. Such as "Allah's Bacon" or "Catholic breaded chicken with red wine" or something along those lines.

/I swear, we were sober

Many years ago Mike Wallace interviewed the Dalai Lama for 60 minutes. Wallace asked him, (I'm paraphrasing from memory here because I can't find the actual clip), "The Chinese have conquered your country, destroyed hundreds of monasteries, locked up the monks and are oppressing your people. How do you feel about the Chinese?"

And the Dali Lama replied, "I feel very sorry for the Chinese."

The Dali Lama is the coolest dude on the planet.

/ And, yes, the Chinese will eventually lose.

Interesting? Yes. Relevant? Only if members of Congress start setting themselves on fire.

Either you know nothing of Buddhism or you're a shill for the Chinese (or, I suppose, you could just be an American smart-ass who thinks he's far cleverer than he is).

Shill for China, no. Live in China, and can appreciate their perspectives on Tibet (too)? Yes. Do you think that's the same thing, I wonder?

Smart-ass American? Of course.

Cult: A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader.

There is nothing (main stream) Buddhist about self-immolation. It's extremist, it's false, it's cult suicide.

Having Buddhists run Tibet would be theocracy, by definition.

Not sure how I'm wrong here.

Well, there you go. You are either on China's payroll or are sucking up to the corrupt politicians out of fear.

Nobody on this planet thinks Buddhism is a suicide cult. Except those so far up the Chinese leader's arseholes that they can't see daylight.

Your English isn't good enough to pass for an American. You're just some scared Chinese kid packed twenty to a room busily censoring the Internet and searching for any reference to Chinese policy on the Internet.

You are on the wrong side of history. The corruption of the Chinese government coupled with the oppression of its own people will eventually bring the regime down.

// Hey, everybody! We've got a genuine Chinese internet censor here on Fark!
