It's less about old school or new school and more about portability. Tightropes are, well, tight. really tight and usually more of a cable. They don't bounce or sway and move the way a slackline does. SO they have to be installed somewhere and not moved (like the circus.)

A slackline on the other hand, fits in a backpack. The kind she has rigged up there would take a large pack but its not an industrial installation. She hauled it up there, rigged it, climbed the other side, rigged that, and trusted her life to it. If she had fallen, she would have grabbed the line (or hit that water really hard.)
