Not a bad bounce though... Wonder if they will have to replace that gear.

That C-130 is missing two engines. No wonder he landed short.

Sorry .. I swear I thought I typed C-160.

I always love it when they post 3 & 1/2 minutes of video when there's only about 10 seconds there anyone will care about.

I'm sure an edited down version will get posted in a couple days... but then .. you have to wait.

You want it early... you deal with the boring bits...

CSB: Had something similar happen to me when I was in flight school: The CFI took me and the other two ground-school students out to see the displaced threshold on a runway that wasn't in use (the wind was blowing straight down another runway). As we were standing there, a Pilatus PC-12 (big-ass single engine turboprop) executed a perfect white-knuckle engine out dead stick landing, just barely missing our little group. We were looking toward the far end of the runway at the time, and an aircraft with no engine makes almost no "advance" noise. The "whoosh!" of it passing by seemed louder than it probably was, though. We shook the poo out of our pants and hiked back to the flight school where we all (mostly the CFI) got yelled at about bringing a hand-held radio with us when we went on "field trips." We later learned that the engine had thrown a bunch of turbine blades just as the pilot was coming in roughly perpendicular to the downwind leg, and he decided the runway right in front of him was much nicer than the one he'd have to do three turns to land on. He didn't even see us standing there like idiots until just before touching down.

Skip to early 1:50 and watch almost to 1:51. The rest is filler. Watch closely because it's filmed from far away.
Overall rating - not worth watching.

The airfield is no longer officially in service. The plane was retired from the Luftwaffe and on its final flight to be displayed at a museum. That decommissioned airstrip was closest to the museum.

Besides the edited version will probably have dubstep embedded in it and extreme close ups of the landing pulsating to the sound of the bass brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwpppppppppppp

That must have been farking surreal for the pilot. He's already doing his best to do a no-engine landing, when suddenly... people on the runway!?!

FTA: "Some spectators commented that the Red Baron would be turning in his grave."

The Red Baron wasn't a spectacular pilot. He was a good leader, tactician, and marksman. He probably farked up a few landings himself.

This. I'll never understand why people go and watch planes being flown around, but if you're going to do so, why the hell are you going to stand so close?

I don't know... I don't farking care either.

We went an entire day with no greenlit submissions to the video tab... I submit something .. I thought it was cool.. and its biatch biatch biatch biatch biatch.

Sometimes I wonder why I even submit stuff.

How farking stupid do you have to be to just stand there when a farking plane is about to land on you?!? People are farking idiots no matter where in the world they come from.

Shadow Blasko: Sometimes I wonder why I even submit stuff.

I don't think he's complaining about it being green, just confused. I am also, because I also swear I remember seeing this months ago. And I don't care at all about whether something is a repeat, outside of greening the same story twice in a couple hours I think it's ridiculous to worry about.

But I'm with RiverRat, I totally remember this from months ago, complete with the plane touching down on a perpendicular roadway before touching down on the runway.

2012-12-27 12:30:17 PM
It looks like the displaced threshold is there for a reason. In the pilots defense, it appears to be a short runway for that sized aircraft and he was trying to use all of it. He would have set it down on the front edge of the runway if not for the slightly raised road in front of it. He probably didn't intend to undershoot the threshold, I'm sure his main concern was having enough runway to stop the plane.
As for the spectators - just because you can stand directly under landing aircraft , doesn't mean you should.

Because you'll be closer to the action, and can in theory, see them better? YOou know, the reason you're there in the first place?

How the fark can you not see a plane that farking big? You could be 20 miles away and look into the air and still see that thing "Yep, it's a farking big plane."

Because standing 25 or 50 yards away would be too far to be able to see a farking C-130?

That approach must be harder than it looks.

This same incident happened back in October on that same runway.

I get your point, but by this logic, courtside/ringside/sideline seats should cost about as much as row LL, since, y'know, they're only 25-50 yds farther away, so they can still see just fine.

Professional athletes aren't 132' tall and don't weigh 170,000 Lbs. They also won't turn you into stain on the ground if they land on you either.
