Misusing 911 should have some consequence associated with it.

I was in Metrotown mall on Boxing Day (the Canadian equivalent of US Black Friday sales, except it's AFTER Christmas) and there was nothing worth the hassle, parking, or whatever that could've been saved by going online.

Well, missing a big sale is one consequence.

Isn't that the point of farking 911, making it a easy number to remember when under stress?

/On a side note I had a lady call 911 on me because I wouldn't let her plug her whole house into my generator when the power was out, I offered to let her store her perishables in my freezer, but that wasn't enough she wanted to run her AC and TV, she actually told 911 that she was missing Oprah and it was my fault so I should be forced to share...

Oh so its okay for police to pull people over and fine them hundreds of dollars for doing the smallest thing "wrong" but when the shoe is on the other foot they hang up the phone. Sounds like a another ONE WAY street for people who live in the lower mainland! Merry Christmas to you too! (Reminds me of the Port Mann Bridge, you pay to drive over it and get killed by falling ice).

Just the guy I want to call when I need a mortgage broker.

I don't doubt the story. What I want to know is how you found out - did she tell you (expecting to see you fearing imminent arrest), or did the police tell you? If the latter, were they able to control their laughter?

Actually I found out when a reporter asked me for an interview about it, 911 calls are public record here and the local emergency response team is big into name and shame as a deterrent to 911 abuse so they flagged that call and sent it to all the local tv, radio and newspapers.

How badly do you have to want something before its a good idea to go out into what you know will be a total clusterfark but not enough to pay 20% more to buy it at a time or a place were you dont have to put up with that shiat?

The alternative is to wait 3 months for that "lastest-greatest" thing to be replaced by an even newer latest=greatest and then but the original at 50% off.

Onkel Buck: And the The Great entitlement Society oozes on. It's always the government's job to get you to a sale before it ends. DUH!

This has nothing to do with an "entitlement society". There's not one person I know, liberal or conservative who would call the cops because of heavy traffic and a sale they were missing. People who do that aren't suffering from "entitlement", they're suffering from a mental defect.

From reading TFA, this wasn't a case of missed sales It seems a lot of folks were stuck trying to exit parking lots for over an hour. They were probably wondering / hoping that the cops would clear some of the gridlock that was clogging the exits. Gridlock is an offense, it is a police matter.

Should they have called 911? Absolutely not. But there's no reason they shouldn't have called the police non-emergency number to clear illegal gridlock.

I believe you. There have been dozens of examples right here in Fark that demonstrate that people of a certain mentality consider the police an adults' version of grownups that can be summoned by calling 911 ("Mooooooom!") to settle disputes.

I did not care enough to search for shiat, anything more than a year or two old is going to be hard to find in the background clutter that is the internet (unless of course it is a major news story) what I took from this exchange is you are a obsessive compulsive with a touch of Asperger's syndrome, Pribar told a mildly funny story, I find it plausible in the light of all the storys of people calling rescue for things like micky d's being out of lettuce or not honoring a coupon, but I don't really care enough to go looking for it, however

I laugh at the masses that shop at this time thinking they are getting a great deal. I don't leave the house this time of year for anything other than work. I also take a different path to and from work that avoids all stores.
