Did his soul try to get back into his body and he couldn't stand the shock?

I could make a snarky and mean comment, but nah gah do it.

He always struck me as a good and honorable man. I hope he has an easy time with whatever is going on.

You must be thinking of some other George H.W. Bush.

Public relations. How does it work?

No I'm not. He served his country and was a decent president. Would I have voted for him? No, but that doesn't mean I can't respect the man and wish him well.

For as much as I dislike his offspring, and the man he served under as VP, I wish this man no ill will.

This is sad.  The BBC article says he's been there since Thanksgiving for pneumonia, and now he's got a bad fever.  I don't know if he'll last the year.  As rotten as his son is, I've never thought bad about HW.

My husband's first thought was that the NRA retaliated.

Yeah, 17 years after he quit the NRA, two weeks before a tragic mass shooting that brought the NRA back into the controversy, WayneLaPierre made an 88 year old man sick. It's one huge f*cking conspiracy that spans decades and uses pre-crime technology from a Tom Cruise movie.

But meh, at least we know it wasn't Saddam who had an assassin cough germs on the former president.

Agreed. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the man, unlike the pageant of sociopaths and derpseters currently defining his party. HW also wasn't the dullest tool in the shed. Sure, I don't like his game, but I like the man.

It's my hope that he keeps ticking for at least a few more years. Also don't forget about his awesome partnership with Clinton to raise a sh*t-ton of support for victims of hurricane Katrina. He didn't have to do that. There wasn't a book deal in it. He just did it, and at the same time showed that Republicans and Democrats can work together to achieve what is right for society.

I wouldn't say that sperm was evil. Incompetent, ignorant, impetuous and entitled perhaps. But not evil.

Now Cheney on the other hand...

Sigh. I don't think so. You're not the first person to say that to me, though. I think maybe the holidays are wearing on me more that usual.

Anyway, I was trying to joke with her, like I'm sure her husband was joking.

That did not sound at all like you were joking, that sounded like you were ranting that the NRA obviously isn't trying to kill HW.  It didn't sound like you at all, which is why I asked.  Hope things get better once family leaves you alone again.

I wish him a speedy recovery.  I've never felt any animus toward the old man.  Bush the Lesser on the other hand......he can rot in the special hell, as far as I'm concerned.

He's apparently had at least one bad stroke, and has been in the hospital for a couple of months. He wasn't allowed home over Christmas, although he wanted to go. He hasn't been well for the past couple of years.

While I wouldn't wish an old man ill, based on how my grandfather went, it sounds like he willed himself to survive the holidays and isn't going to last much longer. If that's the case, I hope for his sake and his family's that he just goes quickly and quietly. Whatever one thinks of Bush as President, he's been a decent man since.

that's how far down the rabbit hole we are. George HW Bush is actually Obama's father - Malcolm X was the mother.

Decent enough to have a major toll road named after him in North Texas while still alive..

Imagine the horror if after 10 years, it was discovered he had a penchant for prepubescent boys..

2012-12-27 12:34:05 AM
Yeah, it doesn't sound like he's going to pull through this.  I remember back in 1988 when 60 Minutes did a nice piece on him and they talked about his war record and being a pilot shot down and stuff, and it wasn't something that had really been mentioned up until then.  He always seemed like a pretty good guy... except his kids are complete garbage.  Either its the result of being an absentee CIA parent off fighting the cold war and being a 24/7 Washington goon, or its a reflection of his character.  I'd hope the former, that the best things he had to pass on were his presence and advice to his sons, and he just wasn't there.

Oh well, before he goes I hope he comes clean on the grassy gnoll.

You realized this is the son of a man who helped finance the holocaust, right? And who never once spoke up about Prescott's actions? And Prescott didn't stop financing them until 1942, 18 years after Bush was born.

Unless you spoke out in disagreement with him. 41 has had a 20 year hate-on against Jimmy Carter for that.

Can't say I really liked him as President, but he did vote against Norquist's idiotic tactics way back when. He knew to keep the derpers out of the arena.

He's George's Father, and that kid learned from him, and we got saddled with that crap for eight years.

Wait wait wait, can we finish talking about how GHW Bush assassinated JFK before talking about how he helped bring Hitler to power using his magical time machine?
