I can't begin to imagine how incredibly shiatty that car must be. A sub-$10k car based on a ridiculous 70 year old model build in a third world country. Why didn't they just start making Yugo's again?

Bob Falfa: Several of them are Fords, so no.

Of course they are. It's the only American car company worth a damn.

Odd list is odd.....

But, that Australian sports sedan does look kinda cool.

Personally, That particular list doesn't exactly reflect my perfect list of desired cars, there's no '87 Grand National on it.

2012-12-26 08:35:25 PM
Desirable, you say?
Which ones of those has AWD, a hybrid diesel engine, manual transmission and navigation?

2012-12-26 08:36:55 PM
Yessssss...because if I could have any car I wanted, with price not being a factor, I'd totally pick a Ford Focus.

What.

The.

Fark.

No 662 HP GT500? List fails...

The hybrid with a manual isn't an option.

I have an FR-S so I'm getting a kick

2012-12-26 08:57:12 PM
Yeah kids, sorry. This list wasn't meant for you. Jalopnik car culture is quite a bit different than standard Car and Driver or Consumer Reports cool.

I Like Bread: Desirable, you say?
Which ones of those has AWD, a hybrid turbodiesel engine, manual transmission and navigation a hatchback?

So close. So, so close.

Half of my cars are Fords, nearly half of this list is... Finally I'm on to something...

/That Aussie Ford intrigues me, the "Pontiac G8" started down there too, they are the two that the Supercars are based on.  Next years new cars include a Nissan and a Mercedes...  Imagine an E class in the Nationwide!?!

I routinely enjoy my Morgan Three Wheeler on the open roadways, my while silken scarf flapping behind me as the wind races past my leather-framed goggles. I say, my penis hasn't worked in years, and I can barely remember where I live, but it's a jolly old time wot wot.

How is it? I was sort of surprised that they had it at #1, but then again, of all the actually attainable cars out there its the one id most like to own.

The Audi R12 isnt available yet.

Any reason you picked the FR-S over the BRZ? I realize they're the same car, but I'm jut wondering. IMHO, I'd take the Subaru just because I trust that brand more than Scion, but interested in what you think.

catusr: Some are Fords, so yes.

Ford has been doing a great job lately, it seems. I'm liking their recent cars a LOT, and I think they're the only domestic car company that can compete with the foreign brands.

In addition to performance Buicks I want a 96 Roadmaster

I drove a friend's Boss 302 Mustang the other day, so I'm getting a kick....

I'm not that into muscle cars, but it was definitely a lot of fun.  The handling reminded me a lot of my old E36 M3.

Still, for close to $50K, I think I'd be buying a one or two year old Porsche Cayman S.

2012-12-26 10:04:50 PM
The Focus ST? It's a nice enough runabout, but I'd rather have the RS.

2012-12-26 10:14:22 PM
100% of people who drive Boss 302 are assholes. Period.

.......which isn't sold in the USA, sadly. So the ST will have to do, and I think it's a damn fine car.

2012-12-26 10:54:57 PM
The Morgan looks pretty sweet, but, I'd rather see a 4 wheeled version.

The Boss 302 is nice, but my friend just snagged a 2013 Shelby that I like better.

The FPV Falcon sounds interesting

The SRT Viper is nice and all but there isn't anything I see in it that makes it stand out from previous SRT Vipers. At least not enough to put it on this list.

There are many more desireable cars than what are on this list.

Most of the best cars Ford make aren't sold in the US.

2012-12-26 10:59:11 PM
The cars were chosen by readers of Jalopnik.

Which makes subby's reaction a function of the same community that generated the list in the first place.

And that is why I absolutely loathe anyone who considers themselves a car enthusiast. It's a million different "DC vs Marvel" arguments that are terribly important to the people who all absolutely know what they're talking about for reals.

2012-12-26 11:00:37 PM
Well, if you're into rear wheel drive hatchbacks this list is for you.

2012-12-26 11:13:51 PM
I could do without the Pagani, and the Viper was more of a childhood dream. Other than that this list would mirror my own almost exactly.

I am sadly aware of that. What I would do for a Focus RS or any of the high-performance Falcons. Oh well, at least we have the Focus ST and will soon have the Fiesta ST.

Certainly those on the street, yes, but all of the Boss 302s I've seen at track days have had owners who were super cool guys - every one of them. I still have yet to be passed by a Mustang anything (Rousch, Kenne Bell, etc....), though. ;-)

Just because you dont have one....

I bought one recently for my daily...a ton of fun to drive, and pretty damn convenient. Been driving fast RWD 2-doors most of my life. Worth the investment.

2012-12-26 11:38:56 PM
So the BMW M135i is basically the Mini Cooper?

2012-12-26 11:41:27 PM
Not a terrible list.

Ford Focus ST - America finally gets the ballsy FWD (not an oxymoron) turbo hatchback that Europeans have been enjoying for years. Technically, the Mazdaspeed 3 and Volvo C30- which have been out for years- share the same platform as the last generation ST, but still.

BMW M135i - Because insanely fast RWD hatchback

Audi RS4 Avant - Because insanely fast AWD wagon. I mean, "estate".

Toyobaru - Because lightweight, relatively inexpensive RWD sports coupe and isn't a Miata.

If it was filled with more fast wagons, shooting brakes, and hatchbacks, it'd be perfect.

#1 is spot-on. I've been coveting an FR-S since they were announced. I just don't want to trade my super-economical, already-paid-for xA in order to upgrade.

It's easier to drift the FR-S. Softer springs, stiffer shocks. The BRZ just tends to understeer, which is going to be more familiar to previous Subaru owners. You're not going to go tail-first into the weeds if you even _think_ about lifting in a turn (pre-996 Porsche, Toyota MR2) but the Scion is definitely more reactive.

Also, if you live where there are snowflakes - or rain - for God's sake, yank the tires and get something else, anything else. They're A) summer and B) VERY high-breakaway. (They're categorized as "grand touring" on places like Tire Rack, which is code for "long tread life and nothing else positive". They're also one of the most expensive tires you can get for the car.) They're essentially Prius tires, and they have no place on a car like this, I don't care how "playful" it makes the experience.

Ditto, except mine's the xB. And Mrs. Q is talking about baby 3. I can still dream about the FR-S though, right?

With almost double the power, yes.

C'mon. The early year 2nd gen MR2's aren't TOO bad with lift off oversteer. At least the NA MR2s. Have you ever driven a 3rd gen Rx-7? I owned one for many many many years until the wife (grumble) finally had me part ways with her. Also had quite a few NA 2nd gens. I was absolutely in love with the handling of the Rx-7 platform and how connected it made me feel as a driver. It seems like FRS is a car that will satisfy my desire to have that again- input?

I'm like the other guy though. I'd have by now if it wasn't for ... certain interference.

Except for the Viper and Toybaru twins (Subaru BRZ and Scion FRS) that list is pure fail. Jalopnik has become a worthless car site. The guys there are just dicks who like obscure crap. Their reviews are dripping with assholish attitude and they are dismissive of everybody.

Im thinking about the Scion, how hard is the ride compared to the c30, pedantics? You said you drive one, and i assumed you tried the Scion? I dont know if you have 18 inches on it or not.

I'd still rather have a Dodge Stealth after all these years. But, I would settle for a Mitsubishi 3000 of course. I'm weird like that.
