Old news. This has been rule number one in the dating woman's handbook for some time.

Probably been on 100 1st dates over the past 4 years. Never came up once. I'm sure someone got stabbed on a 1st date as well, but it's not a trend either.

oh, because the credit agencies are SO accurate...

how about you just spend some time with a person...say a few months,
you'll find out more.

My credit score sucks and I like it that way.

All a credit score means is how well you borrow money and pay it back. It doesn't mean you're a good employee, a lower insurance risk or a person worth dating or getting married to.

Stop worshiping the credit score!!!

One of the best movies/collection of skits ever made. The Pethouse Plaything of the Month (NSFW, really have to tell you?) is awesome.

I probably have a horrible credit score since I haven't borrowed any money for the last 25 years.
No debts. Pay cash for everything.

I prob ought to go check to see what it is

Is there a good free way to do this?

I recall from my last stint in the dating world that women got REALLY tired of guys taking a photo with their cars whether it was a rusted out Camry or a brand new C-class. So is this any less disturbing?

/And ladies, lay off the duck lips look, it's not 1973 and you're not Jimmy Page.

My credit score is not nearly as important as the fact that I have to get to the gym in 26 minutes.

AnnualCreditReport.com is THE site established by the big three credit agencies to show you your credit score. These agencies are legally obligated to show you your score for free. Anyone charging you to view this information is a scam artist, no matter how many commercials they make.

Have things changed? I thought you could get a credit report that lists inquiries, addresses etc. from the big 3 reporting agencies once a year but you don't get you FICO score for free.

"Credit scores are like the dating equivalent of a sexually transmitted disease test"

In what other context would you want to know if someone has an STD?

Not exactly something I'd ask early on but if it were someone I was getting serious about I'd be curious and at some point into the relationship I'd want go know. I dated a girl who ran up her credit card bills, was paying the minimum every month, and had no clue how to pay off the $13k she owed. I knew down the road that she'd be no help in buying a home and I'd probably end up putting part of my down payment fund towards her debt. I bailed after a few months. I found out recently a friend of mine who has been engaged for years hasn't won't get married until his fiancée finishes getting herself in order.

/she could tell me about all the vacation places she went to.
//she didn't see a reason to deprive herself of that.

If her credit score is higher than mine, does that mean she pays for the meal?

Not 100% sure, but if someone just wants to see their score once, it looks like they can sign up at a couple legit places for a free trial basis then just cancel the trial. I'm not comfortable recommending any specific ones though.

Yeah. I think the government regulated ones that let you get your report once a year don't give you a score, just the report. If there is a private company that shows you a score you probably have to sign up and cancel etc.

The last time I knew my credit score was in 2006 when I was buying a house. There have been some bumps in the financial road since then (the year 2006 and 'buying a house' ought to provide a clue as to what those bumps may have been). My assumption is that my credit score is probably not what it was, but apparently not bad enough to affect my insurance rates or ability to secure a lease on an apartment, so maybe it's not too bad. Truth is, I don't really care what the score is because there isn't much I can do about it aside from just paying my bills, so that's what I do.

Agreed. It's ridiculous how much people worship at the altar of the credit score. By all means, if you deem is necessary to take on debt (car loan, mortgage, whatever-- I'm not going into the ethics of what is or isn't a good reason to take on debt) go ahead and do so, and promptly pay it all back, but don't do it just for the credit score. I'm shocked how stupid people get in this regard.

You're right. You still have to pay for the actual FICO number.

Tried the first one from there (Trans something or other). It has a lot of information but to get the credit score they ask for a credit card and so that's a no go.

Ok , found another place that gives a numeric score and a letter rating at https://www.creditkarma.com/signup . I don't think this is the same as the FICO score but at least they didn't ask for a credit card to get it. Supposedly they got it from Trans-something or other.

Ended up with a 'C' so not too bad. I doubt if I'll ever borrow money again so it really doesn't matter but it's nice to know.

I have a great credit score (as do a lot of people). If you ask me about my credit score on a date, I'll end the date there, because you're an ignorant, shallow shell of a human being.

2012-12-27 11:26:19 AM
Above average credit score. I've never asked a date nor have I ever been asked. That would be a deal breaker early on. If it got serious, I would perfectly understanding a girl wanting to know if I am saddled in debt (just student loans for me).

You do need to see what you are getting into in regards to debt before marriage, but a score wouldn't really matter. I'd rather marry a girl with no debt and a low score over one saddled in debt but a great score.

I have a mediocre score and no open credit accounts other than a mortgage. If a girl thinks that's a bad thing, I'm showing her ass the door.

Should a couple talk about finances? Yes, between the time of engagement and the wedding. Should it be a topic of discussion on the first date? Hell, no.
