Trivia Note: Before Lucasfilm was founded, George considered hiring Jerry Anderson to handle the SPFX for Star Wars, wanting to have it on the same par as Space: 1999

I has a sad. Gerry Anderson was so far ahead of his time we still haven't caught up yet. I have to admit I was still hoping he'd get a CGI Thunderbirds off the ground. His Captain Scarlet remake showed it could be done and done well. I just hope the new movie UFO isn't the shiatfest the American Thunderbirds movie was.

Godspeed, Mr Anderson. You touched millions of people and provided fertile ground for miniature SFX artists who'd go on to greatness on the big screen.

He had a singular vision for design, as his wife did for fashion/costuming. Their productions were always distinctive and LOOKED "futuristic".

That's sad. I've always liked his campy-yet-heartfelt and genuine style. That and the themesong by Barry Gray still rules.

I loved UFO as a kid. I had to stay up late to watch it. Later Space:1999 (at least the first season). Thank you Mr. Anderson, and RIP.

Did not realize the same guy was responsible for UFO, Space:1999 and Thunderbirds. RIP future looking guy.

/sort of cab: First saw the Thunderbirds on Iowa public TV one night after a few drinks. I think is may have been new years eve. Never realized its impact until years later when I was talking to a colleague from the UK. Made my appreciation of it much better.

That wonderful man and the brilliant craftsmen he hired got me started on a lifelong obsession with aviation, space, and technology. He'll be greatly missed.

Look up Derek Meddings, head of the model/FX team for most of Mr. Anderson's shows.

//still have a die-cast Thunderbird 2 on my shelf

Loved Thunderbird 2. It wasn't the fastest or the prettiest but it was always the one to pull their Ass out of a fire.

I seem to remember some kind of shooter video game with some of the ships/craft in it. I remember a yellow submarine type thing with a really awesome laser.

Late 80's early 90's?

Any help?
