Pretty nice of the school to hook her up with a scholarship for her remaining education.

What! I never would have guessed that his family had mental issues.

As a parent I completely understand where mom and dad are on this. The level of monitoring children need nowdays is greater than ever. Let's hope they take this to the next higher court.

Having had a completely batsht crazy parent, I really feel for this girl. It's great that the school is helping her out and I hope she can get a name change, plane fare and a deposit to rent an apartment overseas. They will never stop bothering her and will pursue her to the ends of the earth.

I came in here to say this. This guy is Exhibit A.

I'm guessing her parents had her installed with one of those tracking chips under her shoulder like you would for your pets when she was a baby.

FTA: "They accused her of using illegal drugs, of promiscuity and suffering from mental woes."

"The parents knew about what they saw as their daughter's problems because, they admit, they installed monitoring software on her laptop and cellphone, allowing them to see her every keystroke and phone number dialed or received."

So...they caught her, and now she is refusing treatment under the guise of "they were stalking me"?

I, for one, hope this promising performette gets the mental and societal care for which she is screaming out in need.

That, the parents noted, "will attract a lot of publicity," according to court documents.

Yup - my first thought when I read she was pursuing a singing/acting career.

Overzealous parents.

CSB: It was 1987. Hair was big. Rock was loud and jumpy. It was cool until my parents forced me into treatment miseducatedly...

I thought of it more as her parents want to be the very first to cash in when their kid makes something of herself

Illegal drugs =  she smoked a joint once
promiscuity = she slept with a guy
mental woes = she isn't doing everything they say

You really gotta watch out for those students who make the Dean's List every quarter.

I work at a university. I have parents calling me several times a week seeking their children's pay stubs from on-campus jobs, their class schedules, even calling to make complaints "on their behalf" about housing, parking, pofessors, etc.

Sometimes, this is done because the kids refuse to take responsibility for anything, like their parents are doing their taxes, and they don't want to get a copy of their w-2 themselves, or they have issues that they refuse to address. More often than not, though...the parents are just assuming their kid is useless and cannot manage on their own.

My university has a rule that all freshman must live on campus. The administration, as a part of orientation, addresses the parents by themselves as to why they insist on this. They try to be as diplomatic as possible, but it really boils down to the fact that they are now adults, and the parents really need to try to let the baby birds fly.

I am 110% OK with this. I'll be doing it with each of my kids until the boys turn 17. then I'll hand them $500, tell them to find a job and a living situation by the end of the school year. the girls will stay on the plan until they find an appropriate relationship and I'll give them a modest dowry. if they don't like of they can leave when they reach legal emancipation.

Caught her my ass. More like they twisted what they read and heard into what they wanted it to be so they could justify trying to control her. I had a friend who's parents were like this. They would "over hear" her talking on the phone about going to the library to work on a report and accuse her of using code to communicate with who ever she was talking to.

She looks like one of those pageant Moms who was dancing and singing along with her daughter as the daughter did her stage act. I wonder if they were ever shown on Toddlers & Tiaras? It seems like the Mom felt she was the star of the show and should get the recognition for the success rather than the actual performer daughter.

Micromanaging parents tend to want to either keep micromanaging for the rest of the child's life or expect a kid who's been micromanaged to become magically independent when they hit 18 after they've had no chance to learn how to manage things themselves. I don't know which is worse.

If my Mom had been tech savvy enough to do this when I moved to Colorado and out from her thumb to go to grad school, she would not have been prepared for or had enough money to buy the eye bleach necessary for what she'd see on my computer.

Two things came to mind when I saw the pic of the mom:

1. She looks like what I've seen of typical pageant moms: fat, in need of a makeover, validating her own existence through her daughter instead of getting a life

2. Wonder if dad wants to fark her......

These parents are pathetic.  Yea one wants to help - to a point- an offspring that is foundering.  But from all accounts this young woman is a productive member of society, and possibly an asset to the entertainment field.  These parents went way too far.  Children grow up, and as adults they deserve the same amount of autonomy as the parents.

The parents should have cultivated a relationship that involved activities just them, with no child involved.
They need marital counseling.

Yeah, and all her parents did was probably increase the chances that she'll have problems in the future with their bullshiat. Hell, if she was doing everything they claimed she was (AND I HIGHLY DOUBT IT), it was probably caused by their incessant crap.

I wouldn't even call them helicopter parents. I'd call them control freaks.
