It would suck if SIRI would accidentally DELETE a HARD DRIVE...

Siri, hold my beer and watch this

Pushing a button is so much physical work, glad this is done so I don't have to do that again.

I call shenannigans. Hipsters don't have cars. They ride DART or their Segways.

The garage couldn't fit a car or shooter. Why would you want to open it remotely? Unless that is how you get in your house.

Wrong Siri? If that's wrong, I don't want to be right.

That's nothing; the system I've got at home is so advanced that after I push the button, I don't have to say anything, it knows I want to open the garage door.

A GIS for "porn star siri" is quite entertainingly NSFW, and came up with this little gem:

It's good to know that plenty of people still have the curiosity and ingenuity to see if something can be done just for the heck of it. You never know what this can lead to.

So the command "Siri give me a Blowjob" is not out of the question then. Cool.

Yup. To use Siri, you need to proxy into special servers with a unique key... it's possible, for example, to use Siri on a plain old iPhone 4, but you have to use somebody else's key to get in, displacing a legitimate user in the process. Those unique keys are supposed to be locked down to iPhone 4s or iPhone 5s.

It can come in handy. I saw a link about a year ago to do this with an android phone, but the benefit is that you could use the camera to check the status of the door. I have turned around multiple times because I didn't verify that the door was closed before I drove down the road. Using the setup I mentioned, I could have gone to work, checked the door, and closed it, if I needed to, remotely.

In other words, something great for people with compulsive disorders. Or Obsessive, sometimes I get which one is which confused...

So, I could either push a button to open my garage door, or push a button AND verbalize a command? I don't get it...

/How about just an RFID to open the garage automatically, or an app that knows the cars position to open the door on time?

I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that.

Thinking about it further. I have had children lock themselves out of my house. I would have been nice to use a phone app to open the door. Then why would I need Siri? I could write a process to look for a file in a directory and then process the commands in the file.

Or hide a key under the planter. Or put a punchpad on the door. Or something else that's much easier.

I went with the extremely complex fake rock in the flower bed. There is other rocks so it is hard to notice.

Siri is written in Ruby and will run on almost anything.

Truly non-news.

This is a great hack, but I'd like to point out that it's possible to build something similar, using MisterHouse and CMU Sphinx, with a similar amount of skill and effort.

What's fun is being locked out of a door when your punchpad batteries die.

I'm going to have a web interface accessible by a mobile browser secured by client certificates and only accessible on the local wireless LAN, which extends about 75 ft past the door.
