Idiotic zero tolerance laws for the win.

I'm sure the police were pressured into it by the concern trolls from the right. He'll probably get a small fine and a slap on the wrist.

Probably right. Still stupid, but you're probably right.

Why do I have the feeling you wouldn't be that forgiving if Bill O'Reilly or Limbaugh did that.

I wouldn't care. I think DC's gun laws are dumb, and in any event showing the magazine didn't violate the spirit of the law.

Gun control supporter Carl Rowan got away with shooting a kid with an illegal gun because he was too important to charge. Gregory will get away with it too, if a crime was committed.

The only crime committed is D.C. having ridiculous anti-gun laws.

He was charged and tried. The jury deadlocked.

The spirit of DC's gun laws is fark guns, so his only hope is the media/celebrity exception.

I'd have settled for Limbaugh being treated just like any OTHER drug addict caught buying drugs from their dealer...that guy skated on a bunch of drug charges that SHOULD have put him into a jail cell for about 5 years or so.

2012-12-26 02:21:25 PM
So were all of you who are like "Fark yeah, charge him!" Writing letters to the DC police asking them to Charge George Bush when he held up a bag of crack on national TV? Of course you weren't. So GFY. Hard.

And this comes from someone who wouldn't piss on David Gregory if he were on fire.

2012-12-26 02:30:35 PM
I'm sure this will be worth the $200,000 they spend on the investigation and forensics.

2012-12-26 02:38:03 PM
Even if Gregory knew it was illegal, this doesn't bother me.  It could even be noble if a journalist decides to demonstrate illegal items to an audience for the good of informative news, as long as that journalist is willing to pay the consequences of jail time or fines.

2012-12-26 02:51:31 PM
Cops told NBC not to use gun clip (POLITICO)
"NBC contacted [the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department] inquiring if they could utilize a high capacity magazine for their segment," Gwendolyn Crump, a police spokeswoman, said in an email. "NBC was informed that possession of a high capacity magazine is not permissible and their request was denied. This matter is currently being investigated."

2012-12-26 02:51:53 PM
I'm not familiar with DC's specific laws, so I went to Wikipedia:

In addition to each handgun being registered with the police, the rules require that D.C. residents undergo a background check and submit fingerprints and photos. Residents must take a gun safety course, and pass a written test on the District's gun laws. For each gun, the police keep a spent shell for a ballistic fingerprinting database.
Residents must also declare how the weapon will be used and where it will be kept.
[2][3][4][5]

Frankly, that all sounds pretty sensible, especially for a dense, high crime part of the country. Strict, but probably effective. Honestly, can we stop pretending that the same gun laws applied in Butte, Montana or Casper, Wyoming are going to be sensible in DC or Chicago?

I think O'Reilly works in ATL and it would be legal there. Not sure where Fathead broadcasts from but I doubt it is DC.

I suspect that would effectively end freedom of speech in this country.

Please elaborate on how these gun laws are effective in DC and Chicago in reducing crime.

You can't have those magazines in CA, either, even for prop purposes.

Hopefully David Gregory will see the world from a gun owner's point of view now.  It's very funny that the very gun laws he's calling for nationwide didn't stop him locally where they are on the books already.

I can not think of a better example of where someone wanting to break the law will do so with zero heartburn over it.

Except he was violating the very laws that he is calling for the passage of. It's like shooting the guy to show how shooting people is wrong, and then wondering why you got busted.

On top of that, they had already checked with the cops and were told "no". In other words, he has nobody to blame but his own farking self, so he can just shut the fark up.

It would have been all kinds of awesome if Gregory snapped the magazine into an AK-47 and pointed it at the head of the NRA and asked him...."Do you feel lucky punk?"

An AR-15 mag in an AK-47 doesn't do you much good.

Fun Fact:  Once you put a mag that can hold more than 12 rounds into a gun in DC it is classified as a machine gun.

That seems like the sort of thing you might be able to actually look up instead of saying what your gut tells you.

They should arrest everyone involved all the way to the intern that smuggled it into DC to the producer that allowed it. Gregory should get hard PMITA prison time.

Zero tolerance.
