(Politico)   "13 people to watch in politics for 2013." 13? Why that's an unlucky number. Maybe this is the real apocalypse. Maybe the 13 people will bring about the destruction of the country. Study it out. WHAT DOES IT MEAN?   (politico.com) divider line 20

Incoming CNN President Jeff Zucker told reporters just after his appointment that he wants to "broaden the definition of what news is."

How about refocusing news to what it is supposed to be for a change?

maybe that's the plan. I have hope that "The Newsroom" was a kinda wakeup call to 24 hour news networks that they're not news anymore.

Yeah right. What he really means is that CNN's working up some cheesy reality TV shows. Perhaps following around Capitol Hill's janitorial staff, or maybe some Honey Boo Boo style of show, but with Tea Partiers instead of... Nevermind, it'll be just like Honey Boo Boo.

I suppose we can always hope.  But I'm sure he disregards the show as quaint and will ramp up the nonsense to compete with Fox News and MSNBC.

Did someone forget to put paid links on, and now they are making up for it?? Or is Fark finally being transparent about what it really does?

honestly, there was nothing but repeat articles on TPM (which is what I normally submit in the morning) so I went to Politico for filler. They greened the filler

I don't have any patience for slide shows so I am just hoping Michelle Bachmann is in there sucking off a corndog and spouting off about how the Soviet Union is still our greatest enemy.

It's Jeff Zucker. "News" will mean Wolf Blitzer having to pick the headlines out of a tank full of scorpions while Soledad O'Brien chugs a quart of sour milk.

Why would The Newsroom be a wakeup call any more or less than the Daily Show is?

TV audiences are getting older and dumber because smart people no longer watch TV (they get their news from the internet). So cable news networks must compete with an ever dwindling ratings base, and they have to pander or perish. Nothing is going to change that. They know they are hacks. They don't care.

Yes, but here's a concept. I know it's a little out there, but bear with me:

What if news networks improved the quality of their reporting in order to draw in more viewers?

I know, I know, everyone knows that it's QUANTITY that improves ratings, but it's so crazy it just might work!
