Pretty cool. I didn't really need the little skit that pads it, though. I'm guessing that car was pretty far from drive-able when it went into the shredder. Don't they have to drain all the fluids and take the engine out?

I've seen it. They have a ton of cool videos of random crap getting shredded. I don't know why it's so damn entertaining to watch.

You can put your weed in there.

Uncool.  That car could have been repainted at least.  Un-farked-with Bug bodies are getting hard to come by (paint doesn't count).

Impossible, sir. It's in Johnson's underwear.

Remember, anytime you see a cut in a video, damn near any amount of time may have passed.

Or they just don't give a fark about little things like environmental regulations.

What a waste.

ah, i'm not too certain but it looked like the floor pans were gone... or at least the passenger floor pan was missing... pretty much cant drive it unless it has a floor and i remember reading somewhere that the floor pans always rust out on those... i dont think it was a waste...

I normally love things like this, but within the last month a member of my church got his foot caught in one of these things and ended up losing most of it. Definitely makes it hard to objectively enjoy the vid.

As someone upthread pointed out, the floor pans were out. They probably tried to stop ala the Flintstones.

A member of your church lost their foot to a Beetle?

That's like saying it was dirty. Of course the floor pans were out. That's a typical as an oil change for a beetle, fer Christs sake.

So that was movie magic in the beginning when he drove it up and parked it normally?  Invisible bungee cord or something?

That took forever. The company I work for makes shredders for scrap yards that chew through cars in less than a minute. It's pretty damn awesome too. Usually they don't have oil or fuel in them, but when they do, it's a fireball.

My first job was counting bottle returns at a grocery store (this is before they had the self-serve machines). At first we just bagged the cans whole but one day a magical machine arrived: the can crusher. A series of tubes that led to a rotating drum with lips that would grab the can and drag it flat, dropping it into a hopper at the bottom. Every once in a while someone would return a full can of something by accident. We'd shake it up, yell "Fire in the hole!" and drop it in. Good times.

I've never been a fan of VW's, but needlessly destroying a classic car like that should be outlawed!  If nothing else it was worth a lot of money in parts to someone who restores them.

I hate seeing that shiat in movies too.  They'll take a rare classic car and total it just for some cheap 15 second stunt that nobody's going to remember after the movies over anyway.

2012-12-26 01:37:09 AM
Watched the first few seconds and realized they were destroying a decent car. Hope that karma catches up with them and their business is shredded in the new year.

Yeah, pretty much this. They couldn't have destroyed a boring yawnmobile? Who the fark cares, congrats on killing something that could have been rescued.

I could almost let this one slide because it's an ad for a toy store (website address at the bottom). Otherwise? Shred it.

There would still be stuff like brake fluid but the engine is air- and oil-cooled (so there's no antifreeze) and can be removed after taking out four bolts.

The floor pans are not part of the body. Four guys can undo the bolts holding the body to the floor and lift it completely off.

It's three years old, this video.

The car had no engine and was pushed from the top of the lot for the opening scene.

The frame was bent and then stretched back straight, which only weakens it. They bought it as scrap just for the video, it was not road-worthy and short of rebuilding the frame, would never be.

So it's old, staged junk passed through a shredder that looked like the controls were manned by a blind man.

It all adds up to being amusing shiat, if only because it looked like several times they were so close to having to climb up to the hopper and push shiat down with a pole.

/Note to self - do NOT park in Tom's spot...

Normal procedure is to not be in the car when the shredding begins.

They also destroyed an Asteroids machine a few years back that also appeared to be in decent shape. That one wounded me.

Someone with skill should make a pic/gif of a VW Bug running over Shredder from TMNT

Man, if I was that hippy, I'd sue the company! You can't just destroy someone's property because they parked where they should not. Call the police or a tow truck and let it be handled like it should. Yeah, I'm sure the car wasn't worth too much, but I think he can make a case for mental anguish. It was pretty obvious he was really into the hippy scene.

I also can't believe they let him out of there with a piece of evidence. Might be a hard to prove case without that. I mean, how often does this sort of thing happen? And who's gonna believe him over the company?

Maybe for original 60s or 70s German-made bugs, sure. But the "original" Beetle was made in Brazil all the way through 2006. And you can order an entire new Beetle in parts from JCWhitney and just build it yourself like a kit. There are parts, literally, everywhere.

/First car was a '73 Super Beetle.
//I wanted to learn to work on cars.
///picked the early Beetle because of the simplicity and availability of parts.

1) Funny, but the floor pans used to be the first thing to go in old Bugs, not the last.

2) These types of videos used get posted here a lot, years back

and

3) I see this and think of the vile, co*ksucking, evil, POS brothers in Iraq that used to drop their enemies into grinders.

There has GOT TO BE a special place in Hell for torturing them.
