Shadow Blasko: Honest Bender: Global warning, amiright?

Could well be...

I mean, I know you were being facetious, but the current jet stream separation and moisture content of the air is due to higher than normal temps at certain levels.. thus increasing moisture levels and overall storm energy and ...

Oh.. wait .. you were trolling.

that..or it is just winter weather
/snow in december?..get outta here!

For the past 7 days it looked like Oklahoma was going to get blasted. We didn't get a goddamn thing. I'm glad though, I hate hate hate hate driving in this crap.

Shadow Blasko: No Time To Explain: So how much snow/ice will drop?

/less than 3cm/1 inch and I call you guys sissies
//but I'll accept if you don't have the infrastructure to clear the roads

For my area... 6 to 8 .. With Blizzard conditions regarding wind speeds.

This is the latest from my buds at Ohio Valley Weather net... They have been dead on for this whole event, even when the models started getting wonky.

"Blizzard"

/worst we've had under blizzard was a dumping over 50cm in less than 2r hours
//get on my level
///silly yanks, not knowing what a real snowfall is

Do you know what that term means? Without Googling it?

/unless that nomenclature is out of date

So what your'e saying is the Mayans were a few days too early in their predictions.

If that's the worst you've had, you guys have it easy. The Great Lakes snowbelts can get pretty nasty.

Set the whole thing at an oil refinery, and you have a winner.

YES!! THEN!

The Bad Tornado can hid by one of those awesome american nerve gas stockpiles that are rotting away due to budget cuts!

Hometown gets lucky, also, some family lives in Ottawa

And my definition of blizzard is so much snow, cold and wind that it makes going outside not worth it/suicide, minus forty and no snow and no wind doesn't count, cold alone is bearable

/I remember sister sent pic of her place being snowed in
//she was living in a duplex at the time
///picture showed her window, top floor, covered in snow, and the other pictures were of house covered
////to be fair, the proximity of the other buildings helped make the snow get to cover the place, but still the snowfall was over around the meter point

....

How the hell does that even happen?

We're too cheap to clear the roads here, or do much of any infrastructure maintenance (except for reactive "maintenance") and we don't explode shiat at random because of some snow.

Sometimes trees will take out power lines, okay, I can see that, but one would think that Sandy took out all of the weak ones already.

*Some* media outlets and the NWS Scientific Discussion page have been talking about it for almost a week.

The reason most of the mainstream outlets have not said much until today is because this is a very VERY hard storm to call. In some places the difference between nothing/a little rain and 8 to 10" of snow will be less than 20 miles.

Couple that with a huge travel holiday, and forecast models that have been showing vastly different estimates all week (They only really finally started to agree on a snowfall path/wind path this morning) and it would be difficult to stake your reputation on this one.

I don't blame the media this time. This is a hard storm to track and a rough call to make for a holiday.

A General Disdain For All Of Humanity: I was in Springdale, AR a few years back. They had a inch of snow and the town just about shut down.

Being a Northerner, I was amused.

As an Iowan now living in the area, I know what you mean. It makes more sense when you get out on the roads which have 40 curves per mile and grades that approach 50%.

I've had my wheels break loose from the road at 15 mph with less than a quarter inch of snow on the ground.

Granted the local driving rules of "keep the yellow line directly under your right foot" and "obey all traffic rules you can with your foot pressed firmly to the floor" don't help..

I'm flying from DCA to MSY (New Orleans) tomorrow (and the plane is coming from Syracuse), so I'm getting a kick out of these replies...
Actually, I'm a meteorologist (seriously) and I'm getting a kick out of these replies...

At any rate, this storm is cool, but I want to be able to get to the Big Easy and get my drink on!

I live about an hour south of St. Louis and this is terrifying. I have a 45 minute commute to work, and we're supposed to get between 3 to 6 inches, last I heard. If I can't make it in tomorrow, I lose out on two days of holiday pay. I really want those two days of holiday pay, I just hope I can get out of my driveway without wrecking my car.

There was a confirmed touchdown in SW NOLA this afternoon.

Thanks for the info. I thought I was somewhat in touch with the real world! :/
Glad I have lots of groceries and new footed jammies! Bring on the storm, just don't let anyone get hurt.

I never thought something like this would happen to me...
and writing letters makes my lips hurt...
anyway...

I was out in the yard with my snow blower when the recently widowed young lady from next door was having trouble starting her car...

I offered to jump her, she said "what an honourable offer"

and all night I been on her and off her..."

TISH!
