Try Xubuntu.... Xubuntu = Ubuntu 12.04 + Xfce4 desktop. Xfce4 is a good desktop environment IMO, pretty similar to gnome2.

I am not a fan of unity, KDE or the fedora desktop either

The last I tried was mint, but there were some specific things I wanted to do that their UI wouldn't let me do but gnome would.

I only have one main workstation right now, and I have it setup just the way, and I'm one of those super organized types, so I don't play around with my configs too much once I have things the way I want them (I keep my customizations in a folder, but I hate redoing configs, especially if something changed between versions).

I use my laptop or netbook as my testbeds :P

Late lastnight I couldn't login to Netflix with my WiFi-TV but I got in this morning. I don't know what this has to do with anything but I felt compelled to offer something of a CSB so I can get a kick out of some replies.

Considering that the Roku boxes run Linux and stream Netflix, it may be a little late for the tinfoil party hats.

I'm so sick of DRM and the endless legal mumbo-jumbo that nobody understands that dictates what you can and cannot do with media you own.

It's gotten to the point where I just want to pirate stuff because it's easier. There is no ambiguity, it's WRONG, but at least I know what's up.

I restarted my Netflix account last week and thankfully didn't have any issues on my AppleTV or Windows Media Center.

I'm running 12.04 LTS, still using the classic desktop. Unity does indeed suck bollocks

But my K9Copy stopped working after one of the recent kernel updates. No amount of twiddling will fix it. I are a sad panda :(

That was my experience too on Christmas Eve night. Couldn't even log on to Netflix on my PS3 so watched Amazon Prime instead.

Yeah, the trend to be more Windows8-ish sucks. MATE is the old Gnome2 desktop that's been taken over and brought up-to-date by another group of developers. Mint with the MATE desktop is an excellent distro. I've also installed Fedora17 and then installed the MATE desktop - pretty much Mint with RedHat support. Fedora18 is supposed to have MATE right out of the box.

I was able to Netflix my old school Star Trek as well as Sons of Anarchy on my PC over the last few days without difficulty. If you log in using Chrome does it connect you to different servers than in IE etc.? In any case I must laugh at any one using IE in situations where they are not forced to.

I try to avoid IE like the plague.  Unfortunately as a business manager, I'm coming across instances where I have to use it...some of the invoicing websites we work with are not configured properly with Firefox and Chrome, so we are having to use IE.  I cringe when I have to click on that stupid blue icon.
