I don't think autism has anything to do with it one way or another. Talent is talent.

So, that's what the writing on the lid is. Drum music.

That was nice, but can he sing backup, and play a stove? Link

Haha, I cant read! Good point!

Correlation is not causation.

You wouldn't feel the need to call him a diabetic drummer, or a schizophrenic drummer, would you?

Autistic kids rock.

Odd, headline better than comments here.

Calling it talent is a disservice. It is parlor entertainment and that is all.

...at least no one has thrown about the word hero yet

Isn't that just what you do with anything that makes a noise when you play it like that? (read: everything)

Yeah.. maybe it's just me (and you) but I do this all the time with anything that makes noise.. even when I was 10.. a bit confused why everyone's so impressed with this video.

As a drummer, I thought that was freaking sweet.

Also, what was that deep kick-drum like sound? Him kicking the washer with his feet?

VJStinger: dayum. dude had me dancin in my seat. Not bad kid, someone get him a Squarepusher CD STAT!

You are now favourited for mentioning Squarepusher. I'd go with Hard Normal Daddy - you?

On another note: It's not that the kid can drum his hands on a washing machine - it's the groove he gets going. It's just something you get or don't get (and there are examples of both kinds of people in the comments).

unfarkingbelievable: Sounded fake/dubbed to me.

If it's fake, it's really well done. On the other hand, there's no way that hasn't been edited in sound software somehow unless the room where that washing machine is housed just happens to have some amazing acoustics.

2012-12-26 12:02:19 PM
If it's a washing machine instead of a washboard, is it still skiffle?

I have an autistic nephew that plays drums, and he LOVES the blue sparkle round badge Gretsch kit.

lostinthebathroom: Correlation is not causation.

I agree, but there is also a great deal of correlation. My unscientific opinion is that whatever gave him the gift of rhythm and the ability to put together pleasant beats, is also what contributed to his condition.

Of course there are infinite number of talented 'creators' that don't have any mental issues, but the ones that do are often striking.

Was it me or was he speeding up, just like the classic drummer knocking on your door joke?

Honest question, I don't have much rhythm.

If instead of a 10 year old autistic boy, this had been some non-autistic dude in his twenties doing the exact same thing, would you still be praising his abilities?

Atomic Spunk: If instead of a 10 year old autistic boy, this had been some non-autistic dude in his twenties doing the exact same thing, would you still be praising his abilities?

Nope. His time and control were pretty bad. I've seen younger kids playing at a far higher level than this. Of course, most farkers would criticize them for not playing with "soul" or something.

Ten years of lessons and practice and maybe this kid will be a good drummer.

7/10

You failed because some of us do have rhythm and musical talent.

I'm not trolling, and the "fail" thing is played out. Learn another tune. Then look through the comments on every "young person plays the shiat out of their instrument" post and you'll find farkers bagging on them for being "all technique" or some such bullshiat.
