Hagbardr: My wife's aunt just asked her to switch chairs with me because I'm skinny. This should be fun.

Clicked your profile on the off-chance of seeing a pic of how skinny you are because I'm a Fark looky-loo like that. Saw pic of you and your wife. Your aunt should be getting looks of a tolerated child for the rest of the festivities. ಠ_ಠ

My wife saw the pic of you and the Delorean. All she said was "Lucky b*tch"...

Pretty much skipped Christmas this year. I told everyone it was due to financial constraints (which is true, just bought a house a few months ago and I'm going to school while working, so I'm tapped) and even bowed out of a few local obligations. The holiday drama season gets a little tiresome after a while, so I can't say I missed it this year.

I'm sure it'll be waiting for me next season.

My wife and I don't usually buy gifts for each other for Christmas, we just do it all year long. If one of us needs something around December, the other will usually buy it and give it as a gift, but that's about it. This year we gave out baskets of baked goods to friends and family, and from the responses we got back they were well appreciated. As for going visiting relatives this time of year, forget it.

NannyStatePark: I have these religious zealot relatives who think its appropriate to take their preteens to a burn unit today, on Christmas, so they can see what Jesus is saving their eternal souls from. It's a sick and disgusting exploitation of victims of tragedy, a perversion of ministering to the sick, and I refuse to break bread with people that disgusting. I hope one of the burn victims called them on their shiat.

I'm choosing not to believe you. Please note that I'm not calling you a liar, I'm just happier with the world if your story is false.

My kids have all they need or they'll ask me for help if they don't. My Christmas money goes to the state food bank to help those that really need it.

Yeah, me too. One of them is eight. Merry Christmas, here's your nightmare fodder...

I told my husband I'd march those Fers right out of the place, but he says its ok because their whole church is going. The idea of Pentecostals going en masse horrified me further. Then it was "you just hate my family" and here I sit alone while my husband tries to keep our eleven year old from offending them with his language. Bet the bull-dyke adult daughter they shun won't be there either!

Had a great Christmas, 3 grandkids all got 4k for their college funds, bro and I got 10k checks each and are very thankful to our generous parents. Can someone swing by my house with another bottle of chardonnay in the next hour?

Hey, I was that uncle today and its your fault for dressing my niece like a whore.

Also it's not an official family event until someone says something inappropriate

Which is weird, because Seth Andrews (aka The Thinking Atheist) tried that tack to dissuade people from worshipping a supposedly kind, just, and loving deity who would damn people to an eternity of what some of the more horrific burn victims only suffered for a few seconds at most, just for not loving him.

/And yes, the believers have tried to block it numerous times.

When discussing this with the husband I told him I thought it took a special kind of sick and twistedness to go preach God to people who surely must have begged and pleaded for him to spare them that pain, or even to end it in death. My copy of the Bible states in no uncertain terms that prayers are always answered from believers and that God delivers and protects from evil. How do you look at these people and walk out believing that? Plus, an old friend of mine was burned in a car accident. To hear of these people being treated like an exhibit was offensive on every level.

These in laws are making me HATE churchy people, and they aren't ALL that bad. The BIL is what I call a "free pass" Christian who is an opportunistic slimeball and gloats over the idea that he's saved and you are not. He has a t shirt that says "accept Jesus or go to hell" Well, If he has anything to do with Jesus, I'll take a window seat!

It's amazing that more Christians aren't like that, IMO. For all of their harping about how atheists are that just to get out of the moral stuff and lie, cheat, steal, and kill just for the fun of it, they forget that the only actual requirement for being a Christian is to accept Christ. Like I once wrote on my sucky blog, if we're truly "absolved" of our "sins", then Christians should have no compunctions in murdering people, assaulting people, whenever they feel like it. Why shouldn't they? They're forgiven! Yes, this is the same argument that Christians themselves lob at atheists, saying "what's keeping them from killing people willy-nilly?" Well, what's keeping you, Mr. Christian who is absolved of sin by Jesus dying on the cross, from killing other people, other than the fact that the law punishes you still? I mean, you're forgiven of sin because of Jesus...
