There's a bar near me populated by one of the FBI listed 'outlaw' gangs. They don't start shiat, don't drink to excess, and they tip well. They're also rather amusing to talk to. Why? Because being in the club is strike one, wearing the gear in public is strike two, and if they're not careful the next thing you know there's a redneck in the parking lot with a shotgun or a cop following them home for strike three.

I would think of this not as an attempt to peg an extremist as a member of the other party, but as a method to shift those that aren't so extreme towards the center without allowing them to stray to the other party. Kind of a "See, look at how crazy they are. Good thing we don't believe that." way of allowing someone to agree with them.

A lot of people here seem to assume that homophobia is a "right" wing thing. Not the first time I've seen that of course and it's often lumped in their with sexism or racism being "right" wing things.

Those are problems humans have and no matter how much you'd like to cry and scream to the contrary, they are neither left, nor right.

Phelps if I recall is a registered Democrat. I do not know if that is still true as I believe the DNC looked for a legal way to remove him but irregardless the WBC is despised universally by the left, right, and center. I'm not sure where anyone gets the idea that they are left wing from but then again it's plenty stupid to call them right wing as well.

Malicious Bastard: Democratic

In 1997 (before the fall of Saddam Hussein during the 2003 Iraq War) Phelps wrote a letter to Saddam praising his regime for being, in his opinion, "the only Muslim state that allows the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to be freely and openly preached on the streets."[38] Furthermore, he stated that he would like to send a delegation to Baghdad to "preach the Gospel" for one week. Saddam granted permission, and a group of WBC congregants traveled to Iraq to protest against the U.S. The WBC members stood on the streets of Baghdad holding signs condemning both Bill and Hillary Clinton, as well as anal sex.[34] When Hussein died in December 2006, Phelps stated in a web broadcast that Saddam was in Hell along with Gerald Ford.

You gotta give him some credit for that one.

Yes, but Duke was elected to the Louisiana legislature as a Republican and won the state GOP nomination as gubernatorial candidate.

Nevertheless, as much as I disdain the Louisiana GOP, I am the first to admit -- hell, even insist -- that they are not personified in Duke. I've long ago learned the absurdity of such broad generations; Fox has not.

If you look at the demographics from the last few elections you could argue that.  But we don't know whether or not some of the current liberal voters will hit a certain age and become more conservative.  And I've seen plenty of Reagan Youth out there who have been dutifully trained in all the talking points by mommy and daddy.  Unfortunately, many of them have keyboards and net access, and barring a fatal mugging at the hands of some Skittle-crazed minority youth, they'll probably be around for a while.

If you follow through the links, the original source is from a QMI/Sun Media paper, which is like Canada's equivalent to Fox News. Hell, if anything, they have been derpier than Fox over the last few years. AND EVEN THEY IDENTIFIED THE WBC AS RIGHT WING!

Then some dickless retarded hypocrite coward, who probably would be fantasizing of God killing liberals if the WBC didn't put theory into practice, decides to twist it all around by claiming the WBC are liberals and the bikers are conservative on his little echo-chamber blog that no one reads.

Unfortunately, Fox Nation picked up on it and decided to reprint it on their blog. Normally FN may get a pass because "they aren't Fox News," but I would not be surprised if over the next few days the organization gets called on this by the media and politicians alike. The right is beginning to wake up from the derpfest of the last few years, and Fox (if inadvertently) bringing the political spectrum into this may have conservatives rethinking their position on gay rights after the left rightfully deflects the WBC back to them.

The right accepts inequality as normal and positive, while the left sees it as something that needs to be repaired. To my knowledge the Westboro Baptist Church just hates the LGBT... and America for giving them human rights. That has nothing to with the left-right axis.

I don't know about the first one Hobodeluxe posted (the one in the same post where he typed "sounds lefty to me"), but I'm quite sure that the third one he posted two posts down (with no text) is a 'shop. The line of text about underage boys is in a font quite different from the second line ("COULD IT BE A GOOD THING?").

That first line's font appears to be an ordinary computer sans-serif font (even looks like Arial, perhaps expanded a bit) that would not be used on a broadcast quality character generator, especially in non-bolded form (the strokes are too thin, and the horizontal strokes would thus likely be only one scan-line thick and thus flicker / blink rapidly at any interlaced resolution, especially analog NTSC / SD 480i).

Yeah - but we will soon no longer have the "Boomer Bulge" - a large group of people of one age group who dominate the electorate. The average age of our society is going to drop by a decade. Beyond that, new people are coming, with different attitudes - it's pretty inevitable that American politics will move back to a more moderate spectrum of opinions.

Yeah, well about 47% of the country seemed to disagree with your take about 2 months ago.  They seemed pretty fine with voting for all that shiat when they cast their ballot for Flaming Magic Underpants and The Constipation Grin.

That's OK - they are old, white, dying - and soon to be vastly outnumbered. "Conservatism" is dead in America.

Yeah - but we will soon no longer have the "Boomer Bulge" - a large group of people of one age group who dominate the electorate. The average age of our society is going to drop by a decade. Beyond that, new people are coming, with different attitudes - it's pretty inevitab ...

One would hope so.  But as a card-carrying member of Gen X, I've seen a lot (not all) of my peers go from sporting tie-dyed t-shirts at music festivals as wannabe hippies to gun-toting Christian righties or "libertarians" who only care about lowering their own taxes and legalizing weed.  A lot of the IT guys who built the internet culture tend to fall into the latter category and a lot of the ones who married and had kids fall in the former.

Gen X has always been a generally confused mess of Boomer and Greatest generation influences (parents and grandparents).  They're uniquely positioned to remember both the pre-internet days and the cold war days of lower technology, so as things seem to escalate and increase in complexity they may start yearning for a "simpler time" that's really a selective memory from childhood.  I'm already seeing this in some people.

At the same time, Gen X are the ones running around with kids they don't control in public places, or else they're so safety-obsessed they're putting helmets and life-preservers on them at night so they don't get scraped while getting to go to the bathroom.

As more of these shootings seem to be perpetrated by kids in their teens and 20s, the people getting older will begin to look around more and more for reasons why this is happening.  Right now there's a battle for the definition of those causes, and the NRA is staying on message just like it did with Columbine.  People that keep buying into the slogans and who are starting families begin to look for ways to protect their families, and if they're sold on the idea that more guns is the way to secure their brood, they'll buy in, and generally start looking at bundled, pre-packaged solutions for other problems.

That's how you get a guy smoking weed and listening to RATM in the 90s to turn around and vote GOP and spout NRA whargarble in 2012.

Adolf Hitler forced millions of Jews into gay marriage. He paid them to sit at home all day, smoke weed, and have immoral sex while laughing at hardworking straight white men.

Mrbogey: Mugato: Well, their views are largely religion-based and religious fanatics are right wing conservatives

Jim Jones- Right-wing conservative. Seriously, lots of African Americans are religious and they're not right-wing by large.

Dansker: In 1988, when Gore was opposed to gay rights.

And yet they haven't supported any Republicans who oppose gay marriage since as far as I know.

AuBricker: Yes, but Duke was elected to the Louisiana legislature as a Republican and won the state GOP nomination as gubernatorial candidate.

Duke got a lot of Democrats to crossover.

How do you arrive at this conclusion? He was sent to the legislature from Metairie, hardly a Democratic bastion. And when he ran for statewide office, I cannot recall him winning any Democratic districts. Ah. Are you doing that Fox News thing where all things bad, regardless of how reactionary and right-wing, suddenly become liberal?

What is that from?

The SNL version of "Fox and Friends". At the end of each segment, they scroll a list of corrections along really fast, and they are hilarious if you freeze frame them and read through the whole list:

I've never seen you add anything to any thread you've posted in... well except for personal attacks.

The assertion was that he pulled over enough Democrats to win. Keep in mind, Louisiana was up till the late 80s a solidly Democrat state. Duke took the minority Republicans and split the Dem vote enough that he did very well. His greatest successes were in places that had a non-liberal Democrat bloc. Which is why Duke took Plaquemines, Livingston, and Washington Parish as well as a whole host of parishes across central Louisiana that Dems were very popular in. Oddly enough he lost St. Tammany and Jefferson Parish which were very Republican and have become more so since.

Here's have a look that the result- Link
