The way life ought to be. The feeling that kid had when he realized Santa wanted to talk... if only we could bottle it and drink it.

it's fine to be deaf but shyness is total self-involvement. get over yourself, three year old. four comes around mighty fast and you'll be nothing, just nothing.

Some men came to the homeless shelter and offered me a tub of Crisco if I would wear this costume. They injected a paralytic agent into my spinal cord and propped me up in this chair and had kids fart on my knees. Kill me. I'm begging you. Please. KILL ME.

enjoy a month of TF for that one.. I'm still laughing, and stole it

Team deaf Farkers know how to party. Even if those who can hear a bit can't hear anything over the stereo.

Fact 1. I really cannot stand christmas.
Fact 2. There is no dust in my apartment.

This story made me a bit misty eyed. While I do not like christmas, I really do enjoy seeing children get excited about it, and this story restores a little bit of my faith in humanity.

I really hope this is something he remembers, and I hope it will give him more confidence in the future. The feeling he must have had: pure excitement and happiness.

ASL was one of the best things I ever learned - and I would encourage everyone to learn a few basic signs.

Also,
Glædelig jul og godt nytår!

angrycrank: My 3-year-old nephew goes to daycare in French, which he understands but doesn't speak that well (his parents lived in the US until he was 2 before moving back to Québec.) When Père Noël visited the daycare, my nephew asked if he spoke English. He answered that Santa speaks all languages. I guess he was right.

But is Père Noël allowed to speak all languages in Quebec?

There's a beautiful and similar scene in the 1994 release Miracle on 34th Street.

Read on IMDB that Richard Attenborough (Santa) learned sign language without telling the actress who played the part of the deaf girl (she was really deaf), so her reaction when he signed to her was totally genuine.

Most touching scene in the film.

Igor Jakovsky: airsupport: At first, I misread the headline as "shuns" and I was all like, "that Santa is a dick!"

I read it that way too. Why would a signing Santa shun a deaf kid?

Because the kid will just sell the autographs on eBay and buy drugs with the money.

I've noticed a pattern in a lot of news sites where it goes

text.. picture.. text.. picture that is also a link to the video.. text

So I'm madly clicking on the 2nd picture. Then I go off looking for a video link elsewhere on the page. NOTHING. Thanks for farking nothing.

It's clear that video footage of both of them exists. The pictures in the story are stills from a local news team. That makes it even more of a gigantic tease.

Is bulding management sitting on the rights, waiting for TV network bids to come in? Is there only aftermath footage? Bah humbug this link sucks ass video or it didn't happen.

Two cats, but I will never like christmas again. That does not mean that I cannot appreciate kids still getting excited about christmas. Here in Chicago we have the Santa Train. A bunch of CTA (the public transportation department of the city) volunteer their time and money to decorate a 5-car train. The middle car is a flat bed car to which the attach a sleigh and Santa sits in the sleigh. The two cars on each end are decorated with lights and the train plays Christmas music. Elves pass out candy canes. This is a fully functioning train, making all stops along the various routes. It is planned and they do list the days it will be on specific routes as well as appropriate times it is due at each station. And I love it. I have accidentally caught it a few times and it is great seeing parents with their kids waiting on the platform, waiting for the train. This year I accidentally was on the same platform as it was pulling up, and it was fantastic. Three little girls were singing christmas songs to their parents while waiting for the train. It makes me smile. Not so much that it was christmas stuff, but because it was kids have a great time with their parents.

/And, Yes, I hate kids, too.

Misch: Insert obligatory link to my buddy Dave who is a sign language interpreter, and bears a striking resemblance to Santa.

Around the Rochester Institute of Technology, he's just called Santa most of the time, or "The Santa Claus Interpreter"

That's what he spends his Decembers doing... going around and being a signing Santa.

Well, if it was god's will that the kid became deaf then we should be thankful for that blessing, right?

I use standing water and a a pile of lithium ion batteries. I haven't gotten the hang of using 110V outlets without the lethal aspect yet.

I use a few transformers and rectifiers to force power loss, and actually end it with DC voltage.

Yes. Not even Pauline Marois messes with Père Noël. But child-snatching golden eagles have to be trained to respond to commands in French.

I thought this story was sweet. I'm a big fan of sign language and I think it's just peachy keen that Santa knows it too. Everyone should learn sign language, its a beautiful language and a great way to communicate with your mouth full :)
