Who are these bands?

AverageAmericanGuy: Who are these bands?

Was gonna say the same. I recognized 6 or 7 of the names. Though this one DID get my attention:

01 My Bloody Valentine - TBD

That will make, what, three whole albums in TWENTY FIVE YEARS?

2012-12-25 12:19:27 AM
I'm waiting for the new Alice in Chains. The new song is pretty good.

2012-12-25 12:25:31 AM
I only recognized 1 name on that list. Get off mah lawn!

2012-12-25 12:41:28 AM
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs album is on my list. The Depeche Mode album could go either way. Other than those, there wasn't much more I would say I recognize or am anticipating.

2012-12-25 12:42:58 AM
What? No.

2012-12-25 12:59:51 AM
I recognized 4 of those, I think the rest are fake. Actually, I wish 2 of the 4 I recognized were fake.

2012-12-25 01:02:19 AM
I want to say TOOL. The last record had a couple good songs, the band is still tight, but lukewarm overall at best.

I would actually like to hear a new A Perfect Circle record. Maynard's vocals work way better in that band now.

2012-12-25 01:22:28 AM

violentsalvation: I recognized 4 of those, I think the rest are fake. Actually, I wish 2 of the 4 I recognized were fake.

Right there with you.

I wonder if Nick Cave's album will be any good. He does seem to have grown his balls back recently.

List fails because of no mention of Crime and the City Solution's "American Twilight".

2012-12-25 01:25:33 AM
Also, if Tom Waits' piano ever comes back from that bender, I'm anxiously anticipating whatever future album that might be.

2012-12-25 01:58:53 AM

Tarkus: I only recognized 1 name on that list. Get off mah lawn!

I recognized 4 or 5.  I was halfway down the list before I recognized any.

Needless to say, I am anticipating nothing on that list.

/kids these days...with the rock music and the hair and those dungarees...

The cover for Push the Sky Away is just begging for a caption contest.

Out of that list I'd only say I care to hear the Nick Cave and QOTSA albums. List fails for not mentioning Tool. It always feels like a big event when one of their albums release. Can't wait.

2012-12-25 03:02:59 AM
I've heard of exactly 1 band out of those 50.

2012-12-25 03:04:00 AM
When oh when will the The SUNDAYS return from "hiatus" and put out a new album? How long must I wait? HOW LONG!?!?

2012-12-25 03:06:49 AM
a new MBV album?!  im happy to just be seeing them in Feb

2012-12-25 03:11:33 AM
Oh joy! a new Penis Fart In The Darkness album! I saw (and unfortunately smelled) them LIVE! I can't wait!

2012-12-25 03:12:17 AM
Well that was hip as f*ck.

Personally, I can't wait for Against Me!'s "Transgender Dysphoria Blues", although it's unclear how long it will be before that's released since their drummer just up and left the band in the middle of recording.

2012-12-25 03:13:42 AM
I'm familiar with about half those bands, but the only ones that I'm actually expecting to be good are:

40 Wavves

33 Kurt Vile - Wakin On A Pretty Daze

25 Yo La Tengo - Fade

23 Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Push The Sky Away

15 Deerhunter

09 Atoms For Peace - Amok

01 My Bloody Valentine

2012-12-25 03:23:22 AM
Tool. That is all.

Eat shiat and die, Stereodum.

2012-12-25 03:34:02 AM
The only ones I know on the list:

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Tegan & Sara
Vampire Weekend
Phoenix
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Queens Of The Stone Age

I've been wanting some new Yeah Yeah Yeahs for awhile damnit!

2012-12-25 03:37:17 AM
I can't wait for TBD . . . that one should be good.

2012-12-25 03:40:34 AM
Frank Zappa is dead. I expect little to nothing of music since.

2012-12-25 03:43:14 AM
Clearly, it's been too long since I did any serious album reviewing - I don't recognize anything above the mid-twenties, and am disappointed that Iceage (Matador) is not at all the same band Ice Age (Magna Carta) was.  But I'll keep an ear out for Depeche Mode, Yo La Tango, The Knife and MBV.

But I'll be paying a little more attention to the projects currently in the works by AC/DC, Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Black Keys, Black Sabbath, Bon Jovi, Bullet For My Valentine, Coheed and Cambria, Deep Purple, Dream Theater, Exodus, Iron Maiden, Killswitch Engage, King Diamond, Megadeth, Motörhead, My Dying Bride, Pearl Jam, Stratovarius, Suicidal Tendencies, Thin Lizzy and Voivod, some of which are also coming out next year. :)

I'm curious about the new Arcade Fire. Their first album was amazing, the second was really good, and the third was just awful. They could go either way.

Bah, who cares anyway. They still refuse to tour, the precious flowers that they are.

2012-12-25 03:58:01 AM
My #1 is Quiet Corral's whatever-the-fark-they're-calling-their-first-full-length-album.

2012-12-25 04:02:40 AM
I agree with QOTSA, the Yeah yeah yeahs. I'm hoping for new Tool and Death from above 1979

Forgot about Dre'

I've been a fan of Yo La Tengo ever since they released the "I'm not Afraid of You, and I Will Beat your Ass" album. I laughed until I cried/almost threw up when I saw that album title. Maybe the best album title ever.

I'm looking forward to Steven Wilson's "The Raven that Would not Sing, and Other Stories" album at the end of February.

/yay!

List lacks The Airborne Toxic Event and Deltron 3030.

Oh and for those waiting on Deltron 3030...

Wiki: On November 21, 2012, Kid Koala announced at a concert in Brooklyn, NY that the album was going to be released by EMI and would be coming out in the spring of 2013.

It farking better.

Queens of the stoneage.

YES.

Isn't it time for all of the Lynyrd Skynyrd/Journey/ACDC/Hendrix fans to come poncing around in here crabbing about how no good music has been written since they were in High School 40 years ago?

Those guys are funny.

I'm looking forward to Caro Emerald's new one.

I believe Ted Leo + the Pharmacists have an album due out. I'm sure that will be great, like everything else they put out.

AverageAmericanGuy: Who are these bands?

I only recognize Tegan and Sara; I have a horrible gaydar, so they're my only litmus test.

2012-12-25 06:22:34 AM
List fails hard without Janelle Monáe. Although I guess she hasn't really announced the end of her Metropolis cycle, has she?

2012-12-25 06:24:26 AM
Goldfrapp, Roisin Murphy(?), Royksopp, Ladytron(?), Helen Marnie, The Brand New Heavies, Midnight Juggernauts, Depeche Mode, The Knife, Massive Attack(+Tricky), Pet Shop Boys(?), OMD, Boards Of Canada(?), Autechre, Little Boots, Palms, The Prodigy, Austra, Intronaut, Daft Punk, Chew Lips

hatebreed, soilwork, killswitch engage, and hopefully gwar are releasing albums next year. i'm very excited about killswitch in particular since they have their original lead singer back.

but i don't believe for a moment that tool will have a new album by the end of the year, i would bet money that it gets pushed back until 2014 or something. i used to love tool, but honestly i don't really care about hearing new material from them. and i hope a perfect circle breaks up again so billy howerdel will do another ashes divide album instead.

#1 is absolutely the correct answer. To make me even more giddy, they confirmed on their Facebook page that they finished mastering the album on 12/21.

Supposedly there's a new Finntroll album coming this year as well. I can live with new Tool and Finntroll. QotSA is usually at least interesting as well.

dbirchall: Bon Jovi

WTF is wrong with you???

2012-12-25 07:43:12 AM
Weird Al is busy writing and recording his net album, yet it is conspicuously absent from this list! I call shenanigans!

Your picture there has K.K. Downing conspicuously *present*... reference the reason I'm not quite as excited as you are.

Uh no Nine Inch Nails? Cause there's a new album coming and I'd think it would be just a wee bit anticipated.
