hey NBC, the Cold War's over. If someone from another country wins a gold, show me that. Don't spend 90% of that event's designated coverage on the American who finished 11th.

NBC showed every Olympic event, either on TV or streaming online, so I'm not going to give them any grief over their coverage.  I got to watch events online that I otherwise would have never seen, no matter who was covering it.

RTFA- his gripe was mainly with the opening ceremony coverage, which by all accounts was atrociously bad.

I liked the movie fine, but A) the show struck way too late and B) didn't have the same humor at all. Granted, I'm not sure the same humor would've translated well to a TV show, but the show was basically just another Family Guy-esque show.

Good question. The trailer was hilarious. Did the two eps live up to the hype?

As a pretty big fan of The Thick of It, I would say it showed definite promise. But a) there was no Malcolm, and b) it felt a bit juvenile -- lots of swearing for comedy's sake.

People seem to dislike Veep. I like it. I can see why people wouldn't, though. YMMV.

I love Julia Louis-Dreyfus, I love mean-spirited comedy, and I love political shows, so I dig it.

On a similar note, Girls is very sharply written, but it's such a hipster estro-fest that it's difficult to sit through, and impossible to recommend.

I don't mind profanity if it enhances the comedy in some way. This....doesn't sound like it.

What a pity.

I can't see Malcolm's birthday cake "Happy Birthday C*nt" making it to Veep.

I think Girls got an unfair shake from a surprisingly strong sexist lashout - "Dunham's ugly", "Sex and the City ripoff", etc.

TV characters must be likeable and/or relateable, but never neither. The problem with Girls is that it can be very funny, but the characters of the show are absolutely impossible to like or empathize with.

It's a shame really, because Dunham has the potential be a much needed antidote to this "hottie says dirty words" streak in female comedy right now (Whitney, Amy Schumer, etc).

See, Malcolm made swearing into an art form. It was genuinely funny.
I appreciate that. But when shows try too hard and it's not funny, they should just cut it out and go down a different track, not persist and hammer away at it trying to make it work.

It's all in the execution. Some people can do it, others can't.

Precisely what I thought of when I first saw the ads. It was an instant turn off.

In any case, her reputation as a writer(she's been described as "the female Aaron Sorkin" in some quarters) precedes her, and I might check out some of her future projects IF they're markedly different in tone from "Girls".

During the closing ceremonies they announced that The Who was coming on stage next. NBC then stopped coverage so they could show some lame ass sitcom that bombed within 8 weeks.

I think it is another example of New York City being up its own ass so much it loves the smell of its own farts. Since a lot of the reviewers live in the city, they don't realize how annoying it is to people who aren't part of that culture. It's the same issue Gawker has, where even something as universal as gadgets and tech is ruined by the New York hipster "voice" on Gizmodo.

There's a poster ad for 'Girls' plastered on the side of the dingy Chinese take-out place in Brooklyn next to where I live. HBO knows its demographics.

NBC prime-time coverage = a colossal steaming pile of shiat. Unless you absolutely loved BEACH VOLLEYBALL and wanted to see it 90% of the time, when they weren't showing commercials or a 20 minute preview for some monkey-based sitcom.

NBC daytime weekend coverage, coverage on their various other channels (nbcsports, msnbc, etc.) not bad at all.

Plus, at least there was streaming

This.  While I didn't mind knowing who the hell was singing at any one time, the whole ruining the surprise over Eric Idle thing was pretty much where I gave up.  Also, the skipping of like 1/3 of the countries in the opening ceremonies parade of nations just so they could show commercials was annoying as hell.

2012-12-24 11:57:24 PM
Brickleberry is bad, and not because the author "doesn't get it". It's just a string of humorless offensive jokes bound together into a cartoon. Comparable to Drawn Together, which was just as bad for exactly the same reasons.

And this is coming from somebody who enjoys Tosh.0.

(Most of the rest of the choices are pretty obvious.)

watching F&F's amalgam of insipid morning chat with brazen partisanship was like attending a re-education camp run by Ken and Barbie.

They typed that out while Morning Joe played in the background.
