Thats because Politico's headline is "top 10 media stories of 2012", which greatly narrows the notability factor. Unless they changed their headline, subby dropped the football.

Oh i agree but I don't think this was a political top 10. This was a navel gazing by the media, which considering the introduction to the "article" was darkly ironic.

This quote just tells me that my sneaking suspicion that all of the "news media" has become just a propaganda machine is: true, accepted, and lamentable.

When did our "4th branch of government" become a reality show? Where do you get information when you have to question the motives of the person telling you the information.

I go here. There are enough "experts" in various fields to call bs, wikipedia for a surface check, and search engines if I want to delve a bit more deeply. Internet isn't so great for local news though, so I still visit CNN and nbcla.com to round out my news.

The TV news is simply too loud and in your face, and it uses too many hyperbolic words to be able to distinguish what is actually important versus something someone thinks is important because they have too much time and money on their hands.

I do like the internet to check out differing information. However, I've found that frequently internet sites lead you to bad blogs, incorrect and repeated incorrect information and just outright lies.

I'll give you an example, I read a story in the Boston Herald about New York declaring a no fly zone during the Zucotti park crackdown. This meant that any news helicopter reporting on the event had to leave the area. This story was repeated over and over in blogs and other internet news sources.

I was having a discussion with another farker and so I posted the links. The farker came back with the FAA log which showed no such order was given. This confused me with so many sources reporting the order by the police and yet the FAA logs showed no such order given. After an hour of google fu, I finally came up with the answer.

The order was given by the police to leave the area but it was a bluff the reporters fell for not an official order given by any other governmental authority. The Herald was incorrect and every news source that quoted or expanded on the story were off base. Many jumped on the story because it solidified a preconceived concept of government suppressing speech. The truth was the police didn't want to be observed, so lied to the reporters, who like the obedient talking heads that they are, left.

I agree the loud and obnoxious talking heads are irritating and if anything, uninformative. I just want some real news. The question is, where is this fabled animal?

It's definitely becoming more Fox like. Sure MSNBC lies less, but they're not unbiased reporters just trying to report facts. They're promoting an agenda. They don't claim to be Fair and Balanced, but their number 1 priority is being cheerleaders for the Obama administration.

Obama recently met in secret with the MSNBC pundits, Markos Moulitsas, and Arianna Huffington to help figure out how to sell his tax plan. Alot of the libs who were outraged in 2006 when Bush pursued the same strategy have no problem that Obama and the Democrats are now doing the same thing.

Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes, and others have good analysis, but their job right now is to make the president and his agenda look good. They are salesmen, not journalists.

Or that story about how this Dylan What'shisface called the election for Romney a week out, and chided the LSM(Nate Silver and his Zombs) for being deluded for saying otherwise.

I would argue the #1 story was Nate Silver.

So much of this election was about the polling data, turnout prediction, skewed polls, etc., and he was at the center of it.

Rove's meltdown and the GOP's general over confidence were all related to it.

No such place. Every human, journalist or not, has an agenda. Even if that agenda is to "accurately" portray the news. I think the larger issue is somehow in the U.S. journalism started being included under the entertainment industry, instead of an industry on its own.

Try Russia Today if you want a liberal version of Fox News. Which also has the added benefit of being mostly factual. And which enjoys the high ground of CLEARLY labeling its commentary as opinion and its news as news.

If you want high quality international news coverage, Al Jazeera is still cock of the walk if you ask me.
