In a free society, can we still hang submitters by their toenails for spelling "Newtown" wrong?

Someway, somehow, Newtown and other mass shootings are all the fault of Libruls in general and secular humanists in particular.

So, a typical Townhall link?

This article reads like it was created by some kind of Random Concerned Newtown Editorial Generator, not an actual human being. It's just a bunch of random words obliquely related to the tragedy.

I take it you're unfamiliar with Star Parker. They usually put her front and center when they need someone to blame black people for something.

The collateral damage of embracing the half truths and outright lies of moral relativism creates too many problems to sweep under the rug. The damage that is done to, the unattractive and unskilled, the "socially awkward" and the unborn cannot be fixed by Band-Aid laws that pretend to fix it all.

Moral relativism isn't a movement, you twit.  Or was that another weasel word whose definition you don't know, but will suit your needs to fill the blank you're too much of a coward to fill with an expression of your true feelings?

Man, oh man, these people suck.

"If we really believe that in a free society pursuit of self-interest does not include behavior that harms others, we should appreciate that a society that equates freedom to moral relativism and meaninglessness does harm others and reject it. "

Ten seconds consideration is enough to dismiss hopeful fantasies that self-interest is always benign.

I know this is futile, but I'll try anyway.

Biological evolution and survival of the fittest is an observable scientific fact. It is not a philosophy and has no moral connotations to it. It is completely separate from what we as a civilization or as individuals should do.

Social Darwinism is a selfish philosophy. It is not a science. There is no consistent reason to follow it any more than there is a consistent reason to not take medicine.

Sociopath and psychopath are two words for the same psychological condition. So substituting one word for the other is meaningless.

sigdiamond2000: I have absolutely no idea whatsoever what point this author is trying to make.

I think the point was that the Newtown massacre had made the author carefully reexamine his understanding of freedom. He realized that it meant more than just "do whatever you want, as long as you don't directly punch people in the face with your own fist, unless you think they deserve it for some reason".

He realized that freedom also means Jesus.
