Pete Carrol vs. Harbaugh is like, a shiat sandwich vs a douche margarita, but.....on the whole I like seeing Harbaugh butthurt. something about him just annoys. like the old cliche of liking to see bad people fail? i don't think he's a bad guy, but....there's just something about him that bugs teh crap out of me.

Maybe his boy Frederick P. Soft has been in his ear.

YA THINK HARBAUGHZ?!

It's okay, we'll beat the cards to clinch the division, and the hawks will loose in the first round of the playoffs anyways, or as soon as they are on a road game.

Just think 49ers, one of your losses and your one tie could have been avoided by starting Alex Smith. I don't know if last nights debacle could have been avoided, but it shouldn't have mattered

I was the same way...but now having dealth with Pete Carroll for 3 years, I have to ask myself, "Why did I hate Carroll?" Was it because he ditched USC when they were drowning? Was it him thumping the Huskies every year?

The more and more I think about it, the man is doing no wrong. Even the Russell Wilson situation in regard to him being the starter is now obviously looking into a genius move. That man has the benefit of the doubt no matter what he does.

Yeah, sorry...I hate the 49ers but even I'll say (and it's been repeated ad nauseum) that there is no way in hell Alex Smith throws 4 TDs to win at New England (and they've repeatedly shown the graphic that he has in fact, NEVER thrown 4 in a single game). Enjoy your new rookie QB FFS...Alex Smith was nothing more than a game manager, and Colin looks like he's going to be fun to watch for years to come.

Kaepernick vs Wilson for years. Good times ahead.

yeah, it was controversail at the tiem, but that was a huge brass balls hanging low decision.

there's just a kind of smarminess each has. they had it in college (Carroll obviously moreso than Harbaugh) but even Harbaugh got a little insufferable at Stanford. anyways.

i just hope somehow, the Cards can piss in the 49ers champagne sunday. unlikely as shiat as all indications are that Whiz and Graves will be fired at the end of the season and what's more, Brian Freaking Hoyer, who was NOT ON AN NFL ROSTER 2 WEEKS AGO, will start Sunday @ SFO. that is 4 QBs in 16 weeks, folks.

"I think we could have done better."

A student of Ric Romero? Jesus Teabiscuit Christ, the Niners didn't do anything right last night. Even the interception of Wilson was a fluke tipped ball (granted, it was a bad throw). Not only did they lose in a spectacular fashion, Davis and Manningham got hurt.

I didn't have a dog in the fight, but Wilson is really entertaining to watch. And hot damn is that stadium loud; it's not something I've noticed before, probably because I don't get west coast games often where I live. Before the network's sound guys got a handle on filtering it, the refs were practically impossible to hear and there had already been two timeouts taken and two delay-of-game penalties. Trollhawks indeed.

I had never seen him play before, and I was not really that impressed. I heard he was supposed to be a super-accurate passer, but what I saw was his receivers making circus catches to bail his ass out over and over. Once the threw down field, under-threw the route by a good 10 yards, and the receiver made an amazing catch off his head to bring it in.

Well since there is no Power Rankings thread, this can go here:

Welcome back, one and all, to the trivia game where the ho-ho-host is bring all the good boys and bad girls something to shove up their stocking.
It's a quiet week here on the Sports Tab, but don't think I forgot your gift of trivia. As always, 3 rounds, 3 questions. 2 Bonuses. So hold on to those fuzzy socks your grandma gave you at early christmas on sunday. shiat is about to get real.

Whose Line Is It, Anyway?
1. 26/43 416 yards, 4 TD
2. 8 Receptions, 153 yards, 2 TDs
3. 22 Rush, 226 yards, 1 TD
*Bonus - only one of these players won. Who was it?

Season's Leadings
1. Putting the game away is something that many teams can't do this year. This player knows about that, though, driving in dagger after dagger on the ground. He leads the NFL in Rushing TDs in the 4th Quarter.

2. A few weeks ago we saw the surprising stat that the most stuffed-RB was Arian Foster. But who is dropped for a loss or no gain the least? I apologize in advance if Gruden sees this and makes this guy his GRUDEN GRINDER and then talks about him for a solid hour next season.

3. In the red zone, real estate comes at a premium. It used to be the domain of the dominant tight end, but this year the leader is a WR. Which WR leads the league in red zone catches?

Name That Team

1. It's time to reward a little fail. This team is the only team in the NFL to miss two extra-points.

2. Which team gets coal in their stocking for forcing the least amount of fumbles, at 6?

3. Which team is the worst at converting on 4th down, at a paltry 20%?

Bonus: Which team is on the naughty list for being penalized for the most yardage?

Not likely if the Seahawks get one of those NFC Least teams in the wild card round. Heck they could win that road game then stun the Falcons in the Divisional round...Not like the Falcons have never blown home field advantage before in recent years.

I can't stand the Seahawks but they are playing well. Very well.

The majority of these post-game press conferences are a complete waste of time. The only real reason to have them is that every now and then a coach just loses it and gives us all a real gem like "Playoffs!?" or "They are who we thought they were! And we let 'em off the hook!" or "You play to win the game..." Otherwise, it just stupid questions that everyone knows the answer too already.

Keep in mind nobody plays as well as they normally do in the rain. The admittedly scant other times I've been able to catch bits of west coast games, he's accurate throwing deep balls and it usually looks (to me) like he's trying to keep the ball out of the reach of the defensive players and trusting his receivers to be awesome.

Also, entertaining to watch doesn't necessarily correlate with actually being good, at least for me. Peyton Manning is good and I can't stand the guy.

less you forget we should have beat SF in SF if our receivers had actually caught one TD pass that was dropped in the end Zone.

Every Seattle loss this year has been 7 points or less, that says that in the playoffs we have been in some dog fights. The Green Bay game was complete BS, we should have lost that game.

Not going to agree there. They might have won that game with real referees, but they didn't "beat the shiat" out of them. If they had beat the shiat out of them they'd never even be in the position for the fail Mary. They'd be up 2 scores and running the clock out like they did to the Cowboys or 49ers or all the other teams they've crushed.

Your best case argument for that game is that both teams were up and down and a bad call went their way at the end. Best case.

8. It was a team loss.
9. We had a good game plan going in.
10. No more questions, thanks guys.

You should watch an Andy Reid presser some time. Holy hell, what a waste of time.

11. I need to put the players in a better position to make plays
12. I thought it was the right decision at the time
13. I need to do a better job there.

14. We need to watch the tape and go from there.
15. We didn't perform well in all three phases.
16. We need to limit turnovers.
17. You can't trade FGs for TDs and expect to compete
18. At this level, you need all 53 guys to buy in.
19. We left a lot of points on the field.
20. In retrospect, that was a decision that I'd like to revisit but at the time, based upon what we saw, that was the decision we thought was right. We made and that decision is mine and mine alone.
21. I can't answer that right now. We need to watch the game tape and go from there.

Great game by Seattle. They spanked us. Their defense is physical. Their home field advantage is the best in the league in my opinion. I hope we see them in round 1 in SF.

We're just taking it one game at a time. There's no panic that that locker room. We just need to play with a sense of urgency. Last time I checked the Super Bowl wasn't played in September. We're gonna hafta to go back through the game tape and make some adjustments. There's a lot of change in the team right now but we're not using that as an excuse. All we can control is what we can control. My philosophy is "next man up". We're gonna go back and evaluate where we we are and who we are, and go from there. My one focus is [name of team] on Sunday. We're just gonna forget what happened out there today and game plan for Sunday. That's a talented club and clearly, we need to make some adjustments and that begins with me.

Jay Mohr has this aweesome bit about how when he was a Bear, Samurai Mike was all, "THIS IS MY KINDA PARTY, BABY!" "LET'S GET THIS PARTY ROCKIN', BABY!" "WE CAME TO PLAY TODAY, BABY, PAIN IS MY MIDDLE NAME, BABY!" In a voice, shall we say, "urban" or "inner city".

And then when he's the 49ers head man, in these precise, stentorian tones, it is "the organization's ethic is that of supreme effort, without fail, excellence is the journey, not the destination....".

i'm not doing it justice (or maybe it just isn't funny typed) but with his gift for mimicry, it is a pretty damn funny bit.

2. Spiller
3. Green

Davis has only had a handful of catches in recent weeks. He'll be missed as a blocker but I think we're going to win that game handily.

The only thing that would have made it better for me is if instead of taking a knee the last three plays of the game, Wilson took three consecutive shots at the end zone.

That would have been awesome.

I was kinda wondering if Carroll was going to let Flynn throw a few bombs down the field. Even if they were unsuccessful, it would have been fun to watch Harbaugh's head explode.

Seeing how the Seahawks have been playing recently, it was obvious that they were going to win. Although if I was a Seattle fan I'd be worried about when the magic will run out, and it WILL. Late bloomers like the Packers and Giants when they won the Superbowl didn't have them peaking until the playoffs started.

I'm not worried about the magic running out, no one expected the Seahawks would be this good with a rookie QB anyway. Meanwhile 3 years later and 150+ roster moves pete Carroll is building a very young, fast and talented team. The Super Bowl is not out of the realm of possibility, but no one up here thought we would be in this position anyway. The take on Seattle fans is go as far as we can, but we are just having fun watching this team grow.

They should have lost that game if you only remove half the points scored on bullshiat calls. If you remove *all* the points scored on bullshiat calls, the Seahawks still win that game.

They beat the shiat out of the Packers.

You seem to be forgetting the 8 sacks on Rogers, as well as the multiple referee assists GB had to score their lone TD.

Its OK, if you want to buy into the national media narrative of "seattle was lucky to win," go right ahead.  Ignoring the refs screwing up multiple times both ways, ignoring that Seattle blasted GB's line up and down the field.

Well, yes and no. Yes, they are peaking now, but they also have had the added benefit of their starters not having to play full games across the past three games. I noticed that the second and third string defense was out there against SF for the final few drives as well. That's gotta help.

I was at the game last night and it was about as much fun I've had in Seattle in a long time. The crowd was extra drunk though.

SF never seemed to get in a rhythm and the Seahawks had it going. I would've liked to see more Beast Mode, but it's all good. The blocked kick returned for a touchdown was the highlight of my season.

I'd like to reiterate my thanks to Arizona for winning that meaningless Week 17 game last year. Not only did it keep us in position to get everyone we wanted, but that extra position in the first round that we traded down from got us Jeremy Lane, who has done a great job filling in for Browner/Thurmond III/Trufant. Yeah, we're rolling out our 5th-string corners and still locking up your receivers.

Jesus, are we still on this "Fail Mary" crap? Nevermind the fact that there have been some pretty convincing analyses that it was a perfectly cromulent call and that pass interference, historically, just isn't called on Hail Mary plays.

Power rankings are a bit weird. But they always are. I'm not exactly sold on the Texans or the Falcons quite yet. I just can't get behind Matt Schaub as a Super-Bowl-capable quarterback, especially not with the surprising quality of the rookie QB crop this season. And the Falcons have to get the one-and-done monkey off of their back.

The Broncos have been looking like the most complete team so far. I love how the Trollhawks have beaten the Pack, the Patsies, and the Niners, and yet they're ranked lower. It's worth mentioning that CHFF has the Trollhawks ranked first. I wouldn't go THAT far, but I like the fact that there hasn't been one consistently dominant team, aside from maybe Manning's Ponies.

Not going to agree there. They might have won that game with real referees, but they didn't "beat the shiat" out of them.

8 Sacks and the Packers were never closer than 34 yards to the goal line. The Seahawks hadn't given up a TD in five straight quarters when the refs handed them the only TD they scored the entire game.

The Seahawks pounded the crap out of the packers. That is indisputable.
