I work for a national drug store. Valentines product started shipping to us last week. We have until Dec 30th to sell through the remaining Christmas items, then out it goes.

It's not even Bunday yet!

Who gives a shiat if people want to eat chocolate bunnies in the "wrong" Earth/Sun relative position? Go get offended over something that means a damn, Christ.

I was in the UK at the end of October. On the 27th the stockers at my local M&S were pulling all the Halloween candy and replacing it with Christmas stuff. I know Halloween isn't as big a deal there as it is in the States but holy crap talk about jumping the gun. I particularly wanted to get a couple of tubs of their Halloween-themed mini bites but it was all pulled - not sold out, pulled - days before the actual event.

Pfft. I took a picture in my local Tesco on the 9th of september this year of an entire aisle of xmas goodies. This was before Halloween and Guy Fawkes. I pointed out the tastelessness of this salacious money-grabbing but the response was they were told do do it in August but decided to wait a few weeks

At this point why bother rotating anything?

Although, I might give in if I start seeing Cadbury Mini-Eggs in the store, but that is the ONLY item that can break my resolve.

I'm one who likes to start gearing up for XMas just as Halloween is barely over (I like the flow of "The Holy Trinity" of Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas), but really. Easter before Christmas? That's just plain being greedy.

Stuff like that is made as soon as the orders start rolling in.  You wont find a candy company that's in the business of warehousing product, candy doesn't have a very long shelf life and climate controlled warehouses don't come cheap.  That stuff is shipped out within a day or two of it coming off the processing line.

Not sure why they're offended, it's not even Christ's birthday tomorrow.

Do you have the option of taking any of it home/giving it out, or are you obligated to put it in the trash? I vaguely remember a story about some grocery store employee who took "expired" (read: fine, but not fresh) food home to eat and was fired.

The Starbucks nearby already had bunny stickers all over their door and windows as of last Friday.

Stuff like that is made as soon as the orders start rolling in.  You wont find a candy company that's in the business of warehousing product, candy doesn't have a very long shelf life and climate controlled warehouses don't come cheap.  That stuff is shipped out within a day or two of it coming off the processing line.

My local Kroger had some in the summer or fall, I forget when. They also stock the large eggs from time to time. I don't question it (but I wish they'd stock Milka dairy cream bars).

My mom used to be a buyer for a food distributor, and she specifically handled candy. It was always a surreal experience to hear her biatch about Halloween in March.

Few years ago I bought a load of Easter chocolate on New Year's day & put it in bowls around the house. Kids loved it. Adults less so.

I'd say with Cadbury's that they are manufacturing year round at least some traditionally Easter candy. You can buy cream eggs, mini-eggs, and such at any time of year in a Cadbury's shop, and quite often in any place with a good sized chocolate selection.

I saw a Tesco start selling Christmas crap in July this year just before the summer half term.

Harrods opened their 'Christmas World' on 26th July...

There's actually a few stores that cater for just that.

If the people want to buy them, then sell them. They seem to be selling. England has a lot of people who are not Christians and who like chocolate even if it is shaped like a dorky looking bunny.

My Meijer sells locally produced eggnog year round. Nothing says awesome like cold nog on a hot summer's day.

An excellent plan, except my nearest is in an outlet mall about 90 minutes drive away, and i'll be farked if i'm going to do that drive today!

Otherwise, an excellent idea, and i may have to take a trip there christmas weekend next year and do some shopping at the same time :)

I just bought some red- & green-lidded ziplock containers for transporting Christmas cookies. When I opened up one of the red containers, I noticed for the first time it had hearts on it...so yeah, Valentine's Day crap has successfully infiltrated the stores already.

Shouldn't Easter be a Jewish holiday? Killing off the savior of the world is no small feat.

I guess nobody has realized that every Christmas item we've been seeing in stores is actually intended for the 2014 Holiday Season. The retail calendar has lapped the world twice now and is accelerating even still. So that Easter stuff is really for Easter 2014. If you were looking for Valentines Day stuff, that was out from 4:00AM to 4:15AM on Wednesday two weeks ago. They never bothered to unload it onto the shelves; a stock boy just whisked the pallet truck through the seasonal isle at a semi-leisurely pace and brought it right out to the waiting dollar store truck. IF you expect to get pool chlorinator this year, be ready. It will make its way through the stores for approximately 8.5 minutes next Monday.

I think the goal is to get the seasonal display frequency fast enough that every seasonal item can be found simultaneously on the same shelf occupying the same space at all times all year long.
