Not necessarily.
If the Ravens lose today to the Giants, and the Bengals win next week, the Bengals win the division, and would host the Colts.

To be fair, the Giant's defense was on the field for about 742 snaps today. I would call that an honest days's work.

Apparently not.

I'm a dyed-in-wool Pats fan, my best friend's wife is a Bungles fan. I told her if they beat the Pats, they better get to the Superb Owl.

I will root for the Bungles if they beat the Pats.

It could change. If the Ravens beat the Bengals and the Dolphins beat the Patriots next week, Baltimore would take the #3 seed and host Cincinnati in the wild card round.

I think it's actually possible for both Houston and Denver to end up as the #3 seed as well if things fall the right way.

Yeah, you're right. The SNF thread has all the scenarios. Right now, the Bengals could face any of the four AFC division winners.

Not remotely. If NE wins and either the Broncos or Texans lose, NE is the 2 seed. If they both lose, NE is the 1 seed with a win since they beat both teams. The Colts could certainly beat the Texans.

...because it's not like they paid their last pair of rising QB/WR stars to stick around, did they? Yeah, it didn't work out with Chad and Carson, but they had them locked up and they'll do the same thing here. I'm more worried about whether or not we can keep some our young defensive guys locked up.

Bengals are a tough matchup for the Pats, because they can get after the QB with a good interior rush.

Shadow knows what's up. I stopped going to games about 4 years ago because I got tired of that crap. Had gone to games since I was 5 or 6 (1981-82). A perfect season for the Brown family is one or two playoff games, preferably home games, and no Super Bowl. Once Mikey Boy's dad saw how much it cost to go to Super Bowls back in the 80's, not only the two week trip but the eventual rewarding of players and coaches with more money, they've made it a point to never return there. They want to win just enough to keep the fans coming back each year. I hate that family. I wish some family like the Rooney's owned the Bengals.

The Bengals are going to the playoffs in back to back seasons for the first time in my lifetime. Nothing you say subby can take that joy away from me.

The Bengals have a legitimately great front 4 that are going to give Tom Brady headaches for four quarters. If Dalton doesn't turn the ball over and Green-Ellis has 100+ yards I think they can win that game.

wow...

That was.. wow

I'd seen the one about scouting reports, but not this one.

I read an article last year around this time that stated that a playoff appearance (single) win or lose was the most lucrative possibility for a team that only cared about the bottom line. Then we had our one and done in the playoffs... and I just shook my head at it.

/family had season tix through the 80s at riverfront. I really enjoyed those games, but when I went back with a friend a couple years ago it was nowhere near enjoyable. Then again, my tolerance for drunken asshattery is nowhere near what it once was.

/Dad wouldn't let me go to the freezer bowl though. Probably the most responsible decision he made about us kids.

Never been to PBS, but saw numerous games at Riverfront--including the 61-7 beatdown of Glanville's Oilers and the insane 1994 season finale against Philly when the Bengals came back from 27-10 down in the third quarter to win 33-30 with two field goals in the final three seconds. Had some good times at Riverfront, even when the team sucked.

I have no expectations for their playoffs this time around, although I'd like to think they're still a team on the rise.

Crazy how Dallas losing today doesn't matter somehow, thank God the Giants decided to pull a Dallas style late season collapse. I'm already tripping out about that Redskins game, should be one for the ages. I'm also happy the media is picking DC, (post Triplets) Dallas has ALWAYS failed when they are favorites, they play better as underdogs, less outside (and inside, aka DFW media and fans) pressure I guess. I stopped caring if Dallas wins or loses after the Chicago game and it has made this season great for me. No expectations at all, so I'm content either way.

/don't think DC gets the season sweep over Dallas

Despite intensely disliking the Cowboys, I have to give them some credit for late-season improvement this year instead of epic, Yakety-Sax-invoking collapse (that award goes to the JEST). Dez Bryant seems to be catching better with a broken hand and Romo has stopped coughing up the ball.

I was at both of those games too. Never forget that one against the Eagles. It was on Christmas Eve. My dad and I left the game early because they were losing by that score you mentioned. As we were driving home, we heard Doug Pelfrey kick the winning FG. We had endured enough abuse that season than to delay an evening at grandma's for Christmas Eve. Then the jerks had to come back and win the game. Typical Bengals December game in the 90's. Win the last two or three games of the season to make it look like they were improving so they could raise ticket prices for next season.

The Dolphins are eliminated, but regardless of next week's outcome (a loss in all likelihood), I'm pretty pleased. Going 7-9 or 8-8 with a rookie head coach, rookie QB, and a secondary without one legitimate CB -- not bad, really. And about where I had them, IIRC. Somewhere from 6-10 to 8-8.

So much for all the 3-13/Worst Team in the League predictions.

Also, where are all the Farkers who swore the Bills would compete for a wild card?

Hey, they're only a few wild plays away from my 10-6 prediction. And yes, some farker retorted then that the Bills had the wild card locked up.

It was always clear to me that they'd be a fraud. Fitzpatrick's not any good, the secondary is a joke, and the expectations for a huge improvement at DL with all the signings were almost ridiculous. To me it was always a question of whether they'd finish 3rd or 4th in the division, and that would depend on the extent of the Jets' meltdown. I figured New England would again run away with it, and Miami would be 2nd by default.

On the radio, people were still calling in with "The Steelers just have too much talent, and I think they'll put up 50 on Cincy". I LOL'ed every time I heard the "too much talent" line. If they had the talent, they would have played like it...and not get beat by teams like my Tennessee Titans, who were just absolutely horrible this year in every way.

My best friend would bleed black and gold if it was physically possible, and even she saw it coming.  As much as we all were done with Arians, it's pretty damned apparent that going to the polar opposite and then having one of the keys to said offense be that window-licker Wallace wasn't working.  And going halfway wouldn't have worked anyway because of all the problems the RB corps has had this year - mostly revolving around the fact that it's a RB corps and not, you know, *a* running back.

\and anyone who doubts my assessment of Wallace didn't see that interview he & Brown did last year where Costas pretty much had to spell his questions out for him

For those of us who are into that whole "old-time" vibe, a good Fins team is a good thing, even if it is in the Patriots' division.  As for the Bills fans, I'm sure they're still busy looking for their defense and Fitzy's mojo.
