I've figured out the boy's punishment. First, he's grounded. No leaving the house, not even for school. Second, no egg nog. In fact, no nog, period.

Forget science ... I want to know what the bible has to say, and whether or not it can be disproved.

We had a German Shepard years ago. She was our guard dog at my mom's ex's garage. She knocked over a carton of eggnog and a bottle of rum. She drank the rum, left the eggnog and slept through the next day.

Real 'nog, a'la my momma

This is not really 'my' recipe. I use Joy of Cooking's 'Eggnog in quantity' with a few revisions. The liquor
is what goes in a Brandy Alexander, and I got the idea from the Bartender's Guide, which has lots of
good eggnog combo suggestions. I substitute honey for some of the powdered sugar (somehow I figured
the substitution, intending it to be half and half), but you could either skip that, or use all honey, I am
not sure it would matter---there is enough booze and flavors, who would notice? It probably doesn't
change the texture that much either.

I also substitute half and half for whipping cream. I just can't bring myself to use/drink that much cream.

If you are concerned about raw eggs, you could use pasteurized eggs or whatever there is, and use
whipped cream for the topping.

Eggnog-from Aunt Cindy

Beat separately until light it color..............................................................12 egg yolks

Beat in gradually............................................................. ...1 ¾ cups powdered sugar, ¾ cup honey

Add very slowly, beating constantly.........................................................3 cups cognac

Let mixture stand covered for one hour to dispel the 'eggy' taste. (this is if you intend to serve it the
same day. I have friends who make eggnog and swear it has to sit a week, so that's what I aim for. In
that case, you don't have to do this part.)

Add, beating constantly..............................1 ½ cups each crème to cacao (light preferable) and dark rum.

Refridgerate until ready to serve.

Beat until stiff but not dry................................................................... ....8 to 12 egg whites

Fold them lightly into the other ingredients. Sprinkle with freshly grated nutmeg. ( I recommend this---a
whole nutmeg is charming and it smells divine!)

Then I drink it and feel sick for the rest of the evening. Every year the glass gets smaller and smaller as I remember how it made me sick. I say "Oh, well I'll just make sure to have a smaller glass of it"

I love the taste of egg nog, but something about actual egg nog just sickens me. Maybe it's the protein from the eggs, or maybe just the sheer richness of it. I like egg nog "flavored" things, but I suspect that it's just the combination of egg nog spices and dairy that I like (i.e. Egg Nog Spice coffee with extra cream & sugar, or an egg nog shake)

I think I'm going to go and pick up some egg nog ice cream tonight. That should be OK.

Or stabilize the protein with gellan or carageenan. Or if you're not a chef make it a stirred custard like a very light anglaise. Equal parts milk and cream, salt and sugar to taste. Bring that to a simmer and temper in 3% egg yolks by weight and cook to 85C. Cool that down, season with nutmeg and add as much booze as you like.

That's a big 10-4, good buddy.

A shot of any stock blend (Bell's, Teacher's, even the better sort of rye) works fine as the sweetness and spice paper over any booze deficiencies.

This is also why people can stir in crap like Bacardi White and obtain similar panty removal/nap effects. For flavour, however, go with a shot of Gosling's or something pre-spiced, like Sailor Jerry's, which is far too candy-like a rum for me straight up, but works quite well in a booze-nog.

I was told this by a farm vet. Luckily, I wasn't drinking eggnog at that moment. Could've ended badly.

I've found that if I do break down and buy the stuff, I have to cut it with milk to make it palatable. Retains the spicy characteristics but loses the thick sugary consistency.

The eggnog comes with alcohol already mixed in here. I still add more spices and sometimes throw in a bit more alcohol.

Seriously, egg nog has got to be the most dangerous culinary item on the planet. It's got the fat and sugar content of ice cream, but you can guzzle down a pint of it without thinking twice.

At least, I can. But I'm also fat.

I don't know how they get away with calling half a cup a serving.

Of course, I made my own eggnog last year. It was delicious, but considering that it costs about half as much to just buy the bottled stuff and doesn't require I whisk a bunch of eggs, it's easier to be lazy.

I had a pint of brandy and eggnog at my last Christmas party. And I felt fine.

Back in my teenage years, my sister and her friend decided they could make egg-nog based on the ingredient list on the back of the carton they had just emptied. They made it, and put it into the carton and back into the fridge. That biatch.

Actually, it's "lait de poule", milk FROM chickens. Lait au poulet would imply cow's milk mixed with chicken somehow. Poule is the living animal, poulet is the meat.

I was going off what I remembered a french relative of mine telling me it was some 35 years ago. I apologize for my wanton disregard of facts and inaccuracy. I can see how fouls might think I meant dinosaurs milk or something crazy like that. Thank god you came along. The world is a safer place.

I love egg nog - but it has to be gourmet grade. I gave some to a foreign-exchange student friend who had never heard of it, and he pronounced that it tasted "like magic."
