Never been a fan of Ministry, but it's sad that he died.

I've been finding a lot of good things on Best Metal of 2012 lists, thought I'd share* them and some other good things -

One of the more interesting things is the project from the guys who were the main force in Negura Bunget. This is a fusion of Romanian folk music and black metal, and goes to a lot of interesting places. The album has a few moments I didn't like, and a few that veered into pretentiousness, but overall it's quite good - here are two highlights that are just awesome all the way through (the music improved as well after I stopped hearing the name of the band in Carlos Mencia's voice):

Dordeduh - Cumpat

Dordeduh - Calea Rotilor De Foc

and the rest:

Arkham Witch - The Cloven Sea (traditional metal)

Eroded - Thousand Cuts of Sterility (death)

The Graviators - Evil Deeds (stoner/doom)

Nightbringer / Acherontas - The Ruins of Edom (black)

Hooded Menace - Terror Castle (death/doom)

Coffinworm - The Sadistic Rites of Count Tabernacula (black sludge/doom

*I am pathologically incapable of not sharing

Yeah, I finally did that today (just took me a few posts to realize I could turn it off).

Rigor Mortis were playing somewhere every weekend in DFW in the early/mid 80s before they got signed - I must have seen them play 30-40 times at small shiatty dives (most of whom didn't card).

I'm simultaneously bummed and experiencing a weird "you're getting old" moment.

Ministry is not metal; they're industrial.

They provided early industrial influences, but around the time Scaccia joined, they turned sharply left at Albuquerque and have primarily been the vanguard of a certain style of grinding digital loop metal. Their industrial reputation dogs them to this day, to the point that late-period Ministry cover bands think they're playing industrial.

Don't shed a tear for Scaccia. They enough of him backed up on disk for a hundred more albums. You think that's really his live guitar (or Al's voice for that matter) you hear at concerts?

what a farking crazy way to go. sounds like it would be terrifying and confusing. i feel bad for his family. At least he has garnered some love on his way out. I wish someone had showed me how bad ass Rigor Mortis was all these years.

I used to love falling asleep to this album when I was 12...

stopped doing that shortly after when I awoke one night to the bonus track on Sepultura's Chaos A.D.

47 is too damn young to drop dead on stage.  But maybe it's like dying in combat and going to Valhalla - he's playing forever in the Great Gig in the Sky now.
