I was a teenage metal-head in the 80's in Dallas so I remember him most fondly from Rigor Mortis

I'm unusually sad about this.

Damn.

I don't even like Ministry, but damn, that sucks

/The Land of Rape and Honey

Er, no. Not even close.

I would bet a twenty that heroin had a big role in this. Anything Ministry touches involves heroin.

"Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen later posted"... "Mikey was not only the best guitar player in the history of music" LFFAOBBQ!!! See? Definitely heroin.

After "With Sympathy" was behind them, they were actually innovative and moving. I loved them. But, Scaccia-era Ministry sucked. All they ever did since then was load Scaccia's guitar riffs into short loops and the music was all:

"Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! Skronk! I remember ditching school, getting high, and listening to Freaks. It really set the tone for me to become the successful businessman I am today.

Seriously though, this is a sad day for Metal.

jeez, couldn't have been OLD AGE + DRUGS + PROXIMITY TO JOURGENSEN = QUESIONABLE LIFE EXPECTANCY could it?

Ol' Alien Jurgenscum has a pretty good resume as far as people showing up dead in his company goes..

Yeah, it's basically this: I like industrial music. Sometimes, I admit this in public. People respond "oh, like Ministry, right?" and I have to shout "No!... well wait, what period do you mean?" They'll inevitably respond "Oh, I love JBMHR, they used to play it at Shooter's all the time back in the 90's" and I'm like, "Ugh, no, then."

The ironic thing is how many other artists have sampled late period Ministry and used it successfully in actual industrial music again. Sadly, whatever's left of Al's sense of taste seems to lean heavily toward minimalist ball peen hammerism. It's like his sequencer is perpetually trying to clear it's throat. And he can't put down that battery operated evil-voice filter he once bought with a cheap Halloween costume.

"Scaccia was performing with RIGOR MORTIS at The Rail Club in Fort Worth, Texas at the 50th-birthday celebration for RIGOR MORTIS singer Bruce Corbitt when he reportedly asked for the strobe lights to be turned off moments before he collapsed onstage and could not be revived."

Damn it. Why are some farking lighting guys so stupid. Strobes are some of the most dangerous (lasers being the most) theatrical effects for an audience. People can die because of strobes, and there are plenty of folks that did not die but never fully recovered. Strobe effects have rules that must be adhered to for safety, otherwise you can get stuff like this.

RIP Mike, you were a damn fine player and you will be missed.

Hey club LD. You did not kill this guy (hell, he probably did not know he was sensitive to strobes), but you may have contributed his death. That is an event you should consider for the rest of your career.

When did Ministry become a metall band?

2012-12-23 08:02:28 PM
Met Mike on the "Filth Pig" tour. I was waiting around outside to meet Al and he walked out to put his axe in the tour bus. Struck up a conversation with him as one guitar player to another and he was incredible nice. We talked gear, tone, technique and he was just the nicest guy you could meet.

When I gig out these days I think of him and hope that when I talk to someone they walk away with the same positive take that I did with him.

Awesome guy with an awesome ability. The world will be a little emptier and alot quieter without him.

Yeah, IMHO, the best projects those guys worked on after the Mind album were Lard and Pailhead. "Beers, Steers & Queers" was pretty much RevCo's last solid effort.

This is a shame, he was the Godfather of guitarists in the genre.

Chris Connelly re: any doubts about Al's genuine sorrow over Scaccia's death --

"I feel really horrible for Al, no matter what my relationship is or is not with Jourgenson, I know that he really loved Mike, always did, they were best friends and that's that, I hate to hear of anyone in this kind of pain, and, yes, Mikey was an incredible guitarist, and was hugely influencial on ministry's sound, and the sound of the zillions of bands that were influenced by it."
