"For me, I think it's best to not cave in because if we give in to every threat we're going to be in for ... instability in our lives," Joyce Messick said after picking her granddaughter up from school.

Yeah, this is the right attitude.

/ in my school system it was final exams the last three days of a semester. You're not able to make those up easily, afaik.

EmmaLou: Was there some sort of conspiracy to do this Thursday evening or Friday morning? The exact same thing happened in my home town, and all of the parents and families with high school kids were panicked. It seemed to happen all over the place, so it must have been coordinated...or our kids are just this evil with sick senses of humor.

It's like a reverse flashmob.

The Muthaship: The Glen Este Trojans. My high school's hated rival. I always said they were idiots.....

Mine too.  But really, this is a Glen Este stunt.  Their students have been of lower caliber since the 1920's.

In jail for dui?

Well...now she knows.

I sometimes yearn for the days of youth, because it seemed there was so much potential there. So many decisions to be made, so many things to learn, so many roads to walk down. However, if I had to go back to those days with the JUDGMENT I showed back then, I'd probably deserve whatever happened to me.

There's a certain magnificence to the stupidity of the American teenager, born of a lack of limitations. Sometimes, great things come from that lack of limitations. But sometimes it's head injuries, arrest records, or your picture below a headline reading something along the lines of "Teenager in trouble for doing really embarrassing stuff."

My sister keeps looking at the kids she has working for her and shaking her head, knowing that if those kids don't turn into us, they're going to be a statistic some day.

i find it interesting that for the passed 30 years we stopped teaching our kids discipline and every nut screams child abuse when you put your kid in the corner for a time out, and all of a sudden the odd massacre every couple years turns into one every few weeks.

perhaps we should start back handing our children again, worked for my parents, worked for me. you figure out pretty quickly that testing some limits isnt a good idea, and we learned not to be mouthy assholes.

dont let one or two assholes who went to far with spoons, belts, and brushes ruin society and let the rappers take over, shiat, id have loved to see what would have happened to 50c and gaga 40-50 years ago. one would go to jail for admitting to selling crack, the other would end up in a straight jacket which is one level below what she already wears.

id rather put up with prudes then mouthy little bastards anyway.

That was one of the parents, not the 15-year-old.

Suckmaster Burstingfoam: WhippingBoy: serpent_sky: So a fifteen-year-old was charged with the felony of "inducing panic" and the media isn't? Because it seems to me, for the past week, the media has actively attempted to induce a panic in the entire country.

For the past week? Have you just come out of a coma?

Fox News, Alex Jones, World Net Daily and Max Keiser have been "attempting to induce a panic" for years.

Yeah, which network is being sued for attempting to stir up a race riot in the Trayvon Martin case? Kthx

m00: "Police say she attempted to destroy evidence prior to them contacting her."

So for crimes of possession... it's illegal to possess the thing, and illegal to get rid of it too?

That stood out to me, too, although I was thinking more "So if I steal money then deposit in my bank account, I'd be destroying evidence if I shredded the receipt as I do in the ordinary course of business?"

The timing probably has more to do with trying to make winter break one day longer. Same reason absenteeism is higher on Mondays and Fridays.

My town too. We ended up with a text from the police, and three phone calls from the schools saying the rumors were unfounded but they would post police in all the schools. That's weird because all of our schools have a cop there already. My 12 yr old got so freaked out that I had to pick her up, and there were 10 cop cars and 15 troopers inside when I got there. I have to say that I was impressed that even with the investigation saying it was BS that the police still made a huge presence at the school. There was planned lock down drills in the elementary level anyway, so the cops got to be there to give pointers and see what the drills were like.

FTFA: Police arrested the 15-year-old girl on Friday for felony charges of inducing panic and tampering with evidence. Police say she attempted to destroy evidence prior to them contacting her.

And again with this. How can it be tampering with evidence BEFORE police are even involved? (Assuming she was trying to delete the Fb post) It'd be one thing if they had a warrant for her laptop, and she had a little delete party between them contacting her to get the laptop and actually taking custody of it. But that's not this. If we use this shiat as precedent, you can never, ever delete a text, Fb post, email, or any other electronic communication because it might, maybe be evidence of something, even if police don't know it yet.

If this were a false rape claim nothing would happen to her

kwame: Sensationalizing a real event and causing panic over a false event are different things. It's sad you two don't know the difference.

Maybe people shouldn't panic over a stupid post on Facebook.   Of course, the problem is you have people like the parent who think "the world changed" because of a single event that was very small scale in the grand scheme of the entire world.  But when it has dominated the news for weeks on end, that's what happens. The right hand works with the left hand on this one.

Weeks? The Sandy Hook shooting was only nine days ago.

God, it really does feel like it's been longer. It probably doesn't help that I live in CT and Facebook has been ridiculous as well as the normal news.

ultraholland: "The world changed last Friday and I'm not taking chances," parent Rebecca Taylor said Friday.

No, it didn't.

It did for her, apparently because she wasn't paying attention. Until it becomes relevant to an individual, it's amazing how much such individuals tune out or apathetically accept. Even when it becomes relevant, it's amazing how quickly that "outrage" is forgotten when it doesn't actually happen to such individuals.
