My oldest bought one right after he graduated college. 2012 Titanium with all the bells and whistles. I drove it for 3 months while he was overseas. Sweet little ride.

Don't forget fuel efficient. In Europe and Asia Gas is much more expensive than here.

The only one I've ever driven had the most ridiculously tiny gas pedal.  It was really annoying.

After much research, I''m going with the Ford Fusion Hybrid to replace the 1996 Honda Civic with 240,000 miles on it.

AlwaysRightBoy: Ford Fusion

The new Ford Fusion is an really nice vehicle.  I wanted to get one but couldn't wait any longer, so I ended up going with a Malibu.  Equally nice car, no regrets.

Most folk'll never drive a Ford,
But then again, some Focal

Focus?

Bof us?

I guess subby's not driven a ford lately...

I had a '04 Focus wagon with enough miles to be coming back from the moon, and no major complaints and next to no repair bills along the way.  If they were still making them I'd have bought another, alas, a '13 Escape (closest space wise in back)  with the 2.0l eco boost has been my ride for a few months, millage is pretty close, view from on high is good, and the sync thing is pretty cool...

Ford has really been trying in the last few years. Good for them. I get rentals all the time for work. Of all the ones I've had, the Altima and the Sonata have been my favorites. The fords are always very nice though, you can tell how hard they pushed, and actually my next car will probably be one.

2012-12-22 07:07:58 PM
I like them.

2012-12-22 07:12:44 PM
I was in a car accident in July - a box truck clipped me on I-287, spun me out and I hit the divider wall twice.  I walked away with a couple of broken bones in my chest from hitting the steering wheel hard, bruises,  and a concussion. The car was totaled, but looking at it? I was damned lucky to live through that accident, never mind the fairly minor injuries.  I was in a 2007 Ford Focus.  When I needed a new car, I got another Focus.  I figured, that car saved my life, let's stick with it.

I don't love some of the interior on the 2012 (the aux jack is inside, in the back, of the glove compartment and there is almost no console space for anything up front) but I feel safe in the car and it gets good mileage. What more can you really ask for in a car?

We have an '05 Focus. Nice car, very easy to drive and reliable.

/never ever thought I'd say that about a Ford, but there it is

I have a 2007. Nice littlle ride.

I own a 2012 Ford Focus SE. Fits my super large frame, good on gas, and stylish. I do wish the speakers had a bit more bang to them, but I can easily get a new set (which I will next year at tax time).

I love my 2005 focus with manual transmission. The trunk release on the dash doesn't work and the windshield wipers are shiat (I really should buy new ones) but it's a great car. 32 MPG on average.

2012-12-22 10:12:25 PM
I know people call it the Ford Fungus because of the leaking problems on the older models, but even those were great cars.

2012-12-22 10:28:07 PM
I am an adamant anti-Ford guy. I have hated every one I have owned, including the 65 Mustang convertible.

My wife, against my urging and advice, bought a 2009 Focus last year. I have driven it a few times and have to admit that it is a damn decent car. The only negative I can see about it is the huge blind spots when you back up. I am a bigger guy, too. I love that you can jack the seat lower in order to see out the windshield without having to cock your head around to see around the rearview mirror.

No, it is no luxury car, but for what it is I think it is an awfully hard car to beat for the money at this point. Aveos come close, but don't seem to be as mechanically sound.

Wasn't the Ford Escort the most popular car for about a decade?

/The lesson: Popular doesn't mean good.

2012-12-22 10:33:29 PM
I test drove a '12 Focus Titanium while car shopping this summer and I have to agree, it's a very decent car for the price.

I ended up with a '12 Sonata 2.0T, which I honestly wasn't even looking at - I went to the Hyundai dealership to test drive the Veloster but they were out. The Sonata turbo is a fantastic value though; fun to drive, very comfortable and well-appointed interior, decent gas mileage.

I own Ford stock. This pleases me.

I hate the new version and thought the previous versions were meh. It's the perfect appliance for people who don't care about anything but getting where they need to go. Not even the claustrophobic interior, and that stupid bullshiat sync system. As a matter of fact, fark the Focus. I'd rather buy the Fiesta if it had to be a Ford.

Well, first this is by sales, so you can always expect a cheaper car to fill the space.

That said, glad to see Ford turning around. While the haters in this thread are rehashing decade old jokes, they forget that Ford has been under Alan Mullaly from Boeing since 2007. Ford made a good choice when they realized their own talent pool was stagnant, and bringing in a guy who was both an engineer and had success at selling a complex vehicle worldwide.

Focus is a pretty nice car. Hate it (and Ford) all you want, but just check it out and see for yourself. You'll be surprised.

The Focus has been decent for awhile, grandpa. The world has changed a lot since you installed that deluxe model onion on your belt.

2012-12-22 11:32:49 PM
I had a Focus for about 7 years. I drove everywhere with that car, and it got to 130,000 miles before I had a major issue. It also went through snow pretty well. The only time I ever got stuck was after a blizzard that left about a foot of snow and my apartment didn't feel like it was important to clear any snow in the parking lots.

Just think, had you bought a Kia or a Hyundai, it would still have 2 years left on the factory warranty.

/Proud owner of a "Korean" branded car, and see no point in buying any "American" branded cars that are unable to stand behind their product.

Good jerb... they're made in Mexico.
/Which is America too. Just not US of America

It would be a good car if for the slope in the back and small room make it horrid for a tall person. Even a Fiesta has better internal space design. Fusion is a fairly nice fit though.

Its Forbes so I'll just assume Ford payed for the article.

No self respecting individual from Mexico, Canada or anywhere else on this continent will ever cop to being  "American" outside of the US.

Well, you know that... and I know that.

I've been "corrected" numerous times (usually by Europeans) on the intertubes that it is presumptuous of Americans to call themselves that because everyone that lives in the Americas is American.

I think we all know that when someone says "Death to America" they aren't talking about Guatemalans.

I know that they are only doing it to irritate.. or that they are merely pedantic douchebags.

/America... fark yeah!

I test drove a Focus last year. I really wanted to like it, but it had the most uncomfortable seats I've ever experienced my back hurt after a 20 minute test drive. My passenger had the exact same problem in her seat.

I ended up with a Mazda3 skyactive which is great.

At least their Hermosillo factory isn't that far from the border, so some of that income does make its way back to the States in the form of retail shopping in Tucson.  And the more middle class jobs in Sonora, the more stable the area is.  At least the factory isn't in Yucatán.

/personally, I'm hoping to find a car that's fuel efficient, easy to repair, and has front seats whose backs can be reclined flat so that it's possible to sleep in the car while on a road trip. Not sure if something like that exists.

?? Easy to repair? You know, I've driven a lot of cars, being so old as I am. Modern cars need almost no work. If you don't get 100k out of a vehicle with basically oil changes, I don't know what the hell you do to your cars.

I just picked up a tuxedo black ST this week. It's an amazing car. Decent mpg and great power. The torque can catch you by surprise at times, but it handles beautifully.
