It's kind of hard not to find Santa incredibly annoying.

Having cuffs slapped on for chalking seems pretty crazy, though.

Holy shiat, the War on Christmas IS real! Someone call Bill O'Reilly!

And just look at the face of that female officer. She looks like she's seriously reconsidering her career choices. I bet some bigshot in the capitol ordered them to go out there and put a stop to all that peace and love disorderly conduct, and now she's immortalized on Youtube for arresting goddamn SANTA CLAUS!

Chalk a sidewalk, go to jail.

Over the past five years, at least 50 people in 17 American cities have run afoul of authorities for coloring things with chalk. The vast majority were arrested in connection with drawing designs or messages on public streets or sidewalks. Those accused of chalk vandalism range from the "Chalking 8"-who were asking for trouble when they drew anti-cop slogans on the wall of the police station in Manchester, New Hampshire-to six-year-old Natalie Shea, who received a New York City graffiti warning that carries a possible $300 fine for marring her stoop in Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood with a blue chalk scribble.

/Chalk. The gateway art supply.

More war on Christmas. Totally ruthless.

It's ok though, Santa was a total douchebag about kids and guns earlier today. I think we should hunt and eat his aerial caribou. Christmas dinner will be grand!

And yeah, that does seem fake.

Austin American Statesman: Man in Santa suit arrested outside Capitol

Members of Occupy Austin, which "believes that the use of washable sidewalk chalk is constitutionally protected free speech," gathered at the Travis County Courthouse on Friday night to protest the arrests, according to a statement.

Being that it is Austin, they should have at least shot his neighbor's dog; if he didn't have a dog himself.

Don't want to be arrested for chalking a sidewalk? Simple solution:

Don't chalk other people's sidewalks.

Especially not the sidewalk at the state capitol.

He was breaking the law against graffiti, and he got arrested for it. Doesn't matter how he's dressed.

Just because the nutbags in #OWS think they're above the law does not, in fact, mean they are.

Except that it's chalk and it's vandalism.

If Santa had put up a bit of a fight, we would have seen tasering and gut-kicking too. Just look at the faces of those Capitol Police. Grimly "just doing what they must do". Noone should be put in their position, and noone in their position should go through with what they did. I hope they have kids waiting for them at home, and I hope they feel like shiat for the rest of their lives for what they did.

Sorry guys. Our city is rapidly turning into a totalitarian shiathole. This is the sort of place where Homeland Security humvees rocket up and down the freeway with lights flashing and their own unique "panic" sirens blaring. South Austin is overflown by armadas of military helicopters every night at 4 AM. Clusterfarks of cameras at every intersection. I see billions of dollars spent to make the city look more intimidating, but nothing spent to help the homeless who are everywhere. They'll probably be loading them into trucks soon and grinding them up to add to our local "Dillo Dirt" fertilizer product. I'm through here. As soon as I have a destination and the money to relocate, i'm OUTTA here!

2012-12-22 04:30:34 PM
Really????  There are laws against using chalk in public?  Sheesh.  It washes off.

2012-12-22 04:31:50 PM
Chalk may be a form of graffiti, but it is not defacement of public property. It washes off with a bucket of water or a light rain. A reasonable human being would understand this. If a local vandalism law can be interpreted to include a child's chalk drawing, then it must be rewritten.
Writing messages of peace on the sidewalk boosts community spirit. Arresting Santa Claus in front of children in the holiday season is socially destructive.
Thus, these police officers are acting against the public they are sworn to protect. They do look a bit ashamed, but it's still reprehensible that they are following through with it.

It's very much real. Chalk is the gateway to free speech, and free speech is not allowed anywhere near a political capitol.

The biggest outrage is that it seems every cop in the city is morbidly obese. Santa just needed to walk away at a slightly accelerated pace.
