So it's not ok for these people who often can't leave their home or find a job due to being harassed because of their sex offender status to have entertainment that they're paying for in their own home?

This would be ok if the sex offender registry only included perverts.  I actually know a guy who is on there for life because of an accident involving drugs someone else slipped him.  Back home, they make no distinction about it, and he, while under the influence of a date-rape drug, managed to expose himself to a small group of kids.  He's on there for life.  he can never live near a school, and routinely gets vandalized by people who only see that someone on the list is at that address.

While I agree that deliberate offeders, pedos, child-molesters, and the like don't have rights, this really should be done on a case by case basis.  But I'll bet it wasn't.  That stuff never is.

All sex offenders? Even 17 yr old guys who banged their 15 yr old girlfriend? And the guy who got caught taking a leak in an alley? Really?

At least that's how it is back home.  not sure how it is wherever you are.

First they came for the flying penises, and I was not a flying penis, so I said nothing.

And the hysteria continues.

The real problem is that "sex offender" is WAY to broad of a term. They need to identify classes that distinguish the serious nature of the crime. Not only does that help people who did stupid, yet less harmful shiat, it keeps the focus where it should be - on the worst sex offenders; rapists, child molesters, etc.

Anyone else think removing that which kept them contently in their basements, and presumably alone-or at least not inside a child-may not be all that useful as a crime fighting tool?

The sex offender list is troublesome.  No one wants to look like they're soft on sex offenders, or even favoring them, so there's no stopping any government overreach that can be somehow justified by it.

Where's the ACLU on this?

I'm sure taking away their rights will make it easier for them not to re-offend and create a safer society for us all!

State or Federally funded Mental Health Facilities for these individuals to seek treatment and be removed from the population while they are still a danger seems like a great place to start.

Agreed - just look at Obama's anti-gun rights grab - same deal, as much as some would like to pretend it isn't - exploiting tragedy to strip away more basic rights.

LARPers by virtue of their choosen playstyle are pretty much forced to be social... and close and larp relationships pretty much mirror theatre relationships.

Bunch of uppity brats in today's society.

If these folks just have to be tracked, why not chatlog them and otherwise leave things be? If sex offenders (whatever their crime) have to be so circumscribed in their movements, residency, profession, and now even online recreation, just keep the farkers in prison. I hate this quasi-free middle ground, and I say this as someone who finds rape and molestation incredibly abhorrent.

That'll never happen. Too many people equate being put in health facilities as not only soft, but since it costs more, they are even getting MORE of a free ride than they would if they were just put in prison in general population. Granted, they may be raped repeatedly, likely reinforcing the sexual trauma that may have caused them to offend in the first place, ultimately increasing the likelihood of them re-offending, but at least it satiates our need for revenge, and THAT is something we can feel good about.

Believe it or not, yes. I'm an SLer, though I mostly stick with the live music community there. There are still griefers around, but it's generally easy to avoid flying genital hoards.

You used to give me quests and rewarded the effort I put into making you happy. But the years have turned killing Crown Technicians into a grind. It seems like all I do is kill an endless supply of foes and you never look at me twice. Things just aren't the same as they used to be. This is the end for us. I'm with Cort now. Gathering bark for his brewery.

Nobody can get down like those who play a text based video game over dial-up modems.

We just know how to party. Personally, it was Major MUD for me.

The first time I slayed the Adult She-Dragon with my Starsteel Mace, I just knew my sex life was gonna be off the chain son!!

It still exists and is going strong. They've added mesh capabilities to the content creation options and have increased available prim sizes so you can make larger builds. They've also separated out all the adult content to adult sims so it's been years since I've seen "random naked guy" running around a store hitting on every female form he sees. The furry to human ratio is getting smaller and smaller every day, and the vamps have rules now to keep them from harrassing every new player that signs up.
I consider myself an average, every day SL user and my main activities there are building, hanging out and talking (voice)/chatting with friends from all over the world, playing some in-world games we like, and listening to some amazing singers that put on shows through streaming music.
Yes there is come crazy stuff that happens in SL, but more and more it's becoming mostly an environment for "normal" people to hang out and do "normal" things you might do if you all lived close to each other.
