I still remember when they did the "Jamn Oldies" format a few years back that lasted all of about 2 years

I'll have to check out how shiatty this new station is on the way home from work.

Sure it can. Next experiment, can we use an unpaid intern for one day to program the next 6 months of songs and spots? If it works we can lay off hundreds more.

So... basically this "station", is going to be fed with the tripe that eminates from one of iHateRadio's internet subchannels. Saves on having an in-house programmer, personalities, news department, listeners, etc.

Check out THIS article for more vivid details. Appears as if "Evolution" may merely be a front to sway another area station to flip. In that case, expect this to be nothing more than a stunt.

In a related note (since I've given a Clearly Channelled article more publicity than it deserves), flip their logo for iHateRadio upside down once. Looks like a corporate weener giving it to the listener once again.

I'm not sure how this is a surprise to anyone. They collect listening and location metrics (the app checks IP or demands your gps on phones), so can predict 'lots of people in area X listen to Y and there is no station like that'.

They customize a channel online with no real cost then shoot the formatting over to radio play. There are obvious changes to be made and issues, but conceptually the Ihearradio thing is a targeted data collection tool of massive and awe inspiring proportions.

I can't wait until Bain puts them completely underwater in debt and they have to go bankrupt. It would be a cavalcade of schadenfreude.

Clear Channel already screwed us Atlanta radio listeners changing the one good rock station to some pop BS, so I feel for you Boston people.

/The even made a station called "The Bone" - which is basically what they did to our radio market
//Brother works for them to top it all off too

2012-12-21 02:56:18 PM
I hate CC so much. They killed off the Kimmer and the King. And now their idea of traffic is a guy reading to you whatever he can decipher from Georgia Navigator.

The Bone is actually put out by Cumulus. When CC buried The Project, Cumulus thought they could flip another station to hard rock and win listeners. It might've actually worked if they had a tower that you can pick up outside the perimeter.

However, fellow Atlantans, Clear added 92.3 24/7 Comedy inside the perimeter, it's just a bunch of standup routines. It was like an apology for all of the other good stations they got rid of.

ClearChannel will not rest. They have such a bitter hatred for their staff, they simply will not stop until their quest to fire every single employee has been fulfilled.

Big mysterious headline.
Article: It's a dance station.

Oh wow.

Best dance internet station is techno4ever.fm (they're German, so go easy on their choice of name).

In the Clear Channel bloodbath thread, I had posted about 2 friends who are married and still working in radio. The only reason they can is because their wife was the bread winner and out-earned them 2:1.

Well, make that 1 friend.

HOW THE FARK CAN YOU FIRE SOMEONE 2 WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS? It's UNCONSCIONABLE!

Clear Channel is causing Boston radio to circle the drain. Nice going, speds.

Hell, I'm already getting annoyed by Sirius/XM. It's like they took the concept of "Top 50" and just applied across different genres.

The alt rock station plays the same 50 songs until your ears bleed.
The other rock stations sound exactly like a Clear Channel station, playing the same overplayed BS over and over again.
The "area" station just plays crappy trance (which is almost like the same song, anyway).
The chill station is pretty boring.

All of these channels, and we're given only TWO electronic ones? That's the same amount of channels as Howard Stern, and nobody gives a flying fark about him. shiat, with the popularity of dubstep nowadays, you could give the genre its own channel. At least throw us a bigbeat/breakbeat channel.

I know this isn't news, but Clear Channel is primarily responsible for the dearth(or death) of programming on terrestrial radio. They own about half the stations in my area of Virginia, including one of the two rock stations, and they're all corporate shills. And about a month ago, Cumulus entered the fray when the other rock station started airing their 24/7 classic rock programming. Corporate radio is the Anti-Christ, as far as I'm concerned.

Man, get a smartphone and an appropriate app or a GPS with traffic capability. Listening for traffic info on the radio is like washing your clothes by pounding them on a rock down by the crick.

I never said I didn't have one. The point, you missed it. They killed the live hosts off in 2006.

Clear Channel saved talk radio in the San Francisco Bay Area last year after Cumulus killed KGO by changing it to an all-news (except Ronn Owens & weekends) format. Len Tillem, Gil Gross, Ed Baxter & John Rothman are now all on KKSF Newstalk 910.

Yeah... I see what you're getting at, but you realize Sirius would lose probably 50-60% of its subscriber base if Stern left? I dont care who likes what, but you can't just say no one gives a shiat about the main guy on the entire service.

Also, radio is programmed like that because that strategy garners the most listeners. It is proven time and time again that eclectic playlists, and deep cuts = no listenership. The Fark populace is not the norm when it comes to radio tuning. Most want exactly what they're playing. Those 4 clear channel pop stations playing the same songs in your city? Their ratings would sink if they changed and played other stuff. Its truth, sad to say.
