What he could not do was blame Democrats for failing to take up legislation he could not even get through his own membership in the House.

not that our GOP shills won't try to somehow blame this on Obama mind you.  I wonder who's going to replace Boehner?  Eric Cantor maybe?

It's absolutely amazing how close the predictions were.

As far back as 2010, people around here were saying that the Tea Derpers were going to turn on the GOP when they found themselves forced to compromise and actually govern instead of playing spoiler.

Well, now they're doing it. It's a full-on GOP civil war with live ammo. They're gunning for Boehner and anyone else that they can take down.

I fully anticipate that they'll try to elect a crazy to the Speaker's chair and we'll spend the next two years watching clown shoes efforts in the House until the 2014 elections when the remnants of the GOP get wiped away. They'll be primaried by Tea Derpers and then the Derpers will get demolished in the general election and we'll have ourselves a 2 year period of Democratic Congress and a Democratic WH. And that's when you'll see some amazing shiat go down.

Actually, that does make some kind of sense. You really should fire a insane asylum warden if he can't keep the crazies inside and under control.

Problem is, the crazies get to vote on who runs the joint. Man, I can't wait for next month to see what lunatic they put in the Speaker's chair.

One of the oddities of the current situation is that Boehner can't seem to get his party together, and yet they don't throw him out.  So the incompetent boob stays in place, everybody stays rooted to their respective spots, and nothing happens.  It used to be that the speaker's head went bouncing down the Capitol steps first thing.

I feel like I've seen this movie before.

The GOP-led Congress, fighting with the second-term Democratic president over a situation of Congress' own making, takes an extreme measure that affects citizens rather than compromise politically with far fewer (and less noticeable) consequences.

And once again, the GOP is overplaying its hand. Once again, they're letting the fringe drive the party bus. Once again, they're not going to realize how bad they're going to have it, come 1JAN without a deal.

The Republicans (Dr. Frankenstein) created their monster. They thought the beast would serve them, would live in tribute to them, but it's aggressive and uncontrollable. The Republicans tried to lock it away, but Fritz (the Democrats) kept taunting it, abusing it, and whipping it. It broke free.

Now the Republicans and their monster and trapped at the old mill, surrounded by the townsfolk, and the monster is getting ready to throw Frankenstein out the window.

If Boehner remains Speaker, which he likely will, then the 2014 GOP primary will be lots of tea baggers running with the one purpose of dumping Boehner as Speaker. Like the Senate races in 2012 and 2010, this could allow Democrats to pickup a few seats they would typically have no shot at winning.

I'm actually okay with this. If they want to set that GOP failboat on fire and run it aground before eating the staff, by all means, have at it. The House is half of a single branch of government that can't do anything noteworthy to the nation without the consent of both the Senate and the White House.

God 'damn', I'm rather in awe of the Founding Fathers' wisdom in crafting a government that can't go nuts and blow up the nation without unanimous consent.

Well, when one side goes completely batshiat insane and starts to smear feces on the walls while chewing on its diaper, it disqualifies itself as a legitimate alternative to the other party.

When a new legitimate party shows up to balance the Democrats, then I'll give them a look. Until then, I'm quite okay with giving the Democrats the keys to the kingdom and letting them do things their way for a while.

at least the Democrats are sane.  not always smart...but sane.  you can smell the crazy coming off the GOP from miles away.

2012-12-21 10:18:58 AM
Boehner's best plan is to gather the remaining Republicans who are willing to you know, actually work out a deal with the Democrats, pass a spending bill that has bipartisan support and tell the TeaBaggers to go fark themselves. His obligation is to his country, not his damned insane political party. If he doesn't see that, then he and his party will be blamed for the fiscal cliff scenario and the Democrats and Obama will make very, very sure that the nation knows it.

So tell the GOP to stop being so crazy that people don't want to vote for them. There's nothing in the rules that says a giraffe can't play football the GOP must one of the two most popular political parties. The Constitution Party could use a few members, as could the Greens, the Libertarians, the Socialists, the Connecticut for Lieberman party needs a new raison d'etre; they could become Democrats (which doesn't help avoid one-party rule), or go independent...

2012-12-21 10:21:45 AM
And the best part is, with the Tea Derpers in open revolt, the remnants of the sane GOP will have to go along with the Democrats in order to get 'anything' of what they want.

If this happens, and you see a GOP/Democrat alliance, the Tea Derpers are effectively neutralized in the House. But, it means that we'll have a de facto Democrat House with a few morsels thrown to the GOP.

Of course, this also means that the Tea Derpers will go even further batshiat insane at the 'traitor' GOP and do their utmost to primary the sane GOP in 2014.

They really have no easy way out without throwing themselves utterly at the mercy of the Democrats and working with them to purge the Tea Derpers from the House.
