The story of Lauren's early years was handed out on purple paper during the Mass of Christian burial at First Congregational Church in Danbury.

I am seeing a problem here.

The Mass need not be held in a Catholic Church,  The other Church may have loaned its building to the family for the Mass.    I imagine the various churches cooperated on scheduling the services.

She is a UCC member, so stating it is a "Mass of Christian Burial" is wrong.

Is mass limited to only Catholics?

pedantic - Being showy of one's knowledge, often in a boring manner.
Being finicky or fastidious, especially with language.

A young woman is dead and people are grieving and the best you can do is point to possible errors in terms. Now you know why you don't get invited to the better parties

Pot.Kettle.Black

The article is wrong, and demeans the faith in which this woman was raised. Fark off.

Lemme assure you both that Lauren would not have cared that the writer of this article made this error.

Yes, a Mass can be held in a church, a stadium, a parking lot or a battlefield.

I didn't find it necessary to dig into the religion of a murdered woman.

The media told us the wrong name of the murderer, they said it was his brother at first, they told us the mom was a teacher at the school, they told us there were two murderers, they told us that he used a pistol, they told us that he killed his father in New Jersey first.   Yet you're upset that they said Mass of Christian Burial a woman who belonged to a different Christian denomination rather than funeral service.
You're offended on behalf of the woman because a newspaper reporters mistake demeans the faith in which she was raised.

I'm offended that some woman didn't keep her guns away from her mentally ill son and he murdered 20 babies and six people trying to save those children from harm.  I guess we have different priorities.

You know, I'm probably not the only one who thinks you're a jerk.   Apparently that UCC that you go to doesn't teach you to be nice to other people.   Too bad for you.
