I just plunked down my life savings for exclusive national franchise rights to Pizza in a Cup..

I'll be a zillionaire by this time next year!

Meh.  All the franchises around here are a few dollars over the cost of the mom'n'pops.  It's cheaper to eat local, which I do.

This can't be right. FreeRepublic told me Obamacare would destroy all business growth. Damn you Obama, is there anything you can't screw up?

IFA research shows quick-service restaurants will be among the strongest performers in the U.S. franchising industry.

Quick-service = fast food. So this is not unambiguously good news for the economy.

/hey, learned a new euphemism today!

I don't think I've eaten at a fastfood chain in five years. The food is just too disgusting.

People still eat at corporate fast food places? why? I'm not even being a food snob, but a local place is better for your local economy, and is probably better.

Even when traveling, check a review on your phone, or just try a place. That's part of the adventure.

Depends on what you mean by "when traveling".... yes, once you are settled at where you are going to be, then, you should try to "explore" a bit.

On your way to get there (if you are driving), there is usually rarely anything not chain that isn't more than a mile off the highway.  Most people are trying to get to where they are going and just want to hit a drive thru.

I went to a Roy Rogers nearby, because it was one of the few I've seen for a while. I was not impressed with their puny sandwiches and higher than average price.

/Sincerely regretted not going to the store and making my own roast beef

I wash dashing from "happy hour" to "regular drinking hours" and had to eat something substantial enough to keep my wits about me.  It was that or Checkers.

Most fast food restaurants are owned by locals. Its casual dining restaurants that are mostly owned by corporations. good luck finding many local convenient fast food places in small/midsize cities that aren't franchises. There are a few in my town, mostly only open for lunch and closed on random days.

Yeah, according to the "Franchise Business Economic Outlook for 2013" report released Thursday by the International Franchise Association Educational Foundation.

So this is like when a REALTOR (r) tells me that the housing market is perfect for me whether I'm buying or selling, or when Toyota tells me it's the best time ever to buy.
