Shhhh. Don't tell anyone, but the Catholic church has worked on positive community projects with every major religion out there, and are willing to do so whenever the opportunity can be found. The Catholic church is actually probably the most open-minded Christian religion there is when it comes to accepting other churches as partners in doing good. Curiously enough though they actually have a harder time getting other Christians to work with them than non-Christian religions.

Me: God, can I ask You a question?

God: Sure

Me: Promise You won't get mad

God: I promise

Me: Why did You let so much stuff happen to me today?

God: What do u mean?

Me: Well, I woke up late

God: Yes

Me: My car took forever to start

God: Okay

Me: at lunch they made my sandwich wrong & I had to wait

God: Huummm

Me: On the way home, my phone went DEAD, just as I picked up a call

God: All right

Me: And on top of it all off, when I got home ~I just want to soak my feet in my new foot massager & relax. BUT it wouldn't work!!! Nothing went right today! Why did You do that?

God: Let me see, the death angel was at your bed this morning & I had to send one
of My Angels to battle him for your life. I let you sleep through that

Me (humbled): OH

GOD: I didn't let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that would have hit you if you were on the road.

Me: (ashamed)

God: The first person who made your sandwich today was sick & I didn't want you to catch what they have, I knew you couldn't afford to miss work.

Me (embarrassed):Okay

God: Your phone went dead bcuz the person that was calling was going to give false witness about what you said on that call, I didn't even let you talk to them so you would be covered.

Me (softly): I see God

God: Oh and that foot massager, it had a shortage that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn't think you wanted to be in the dark.

Me: I'm Sorry God

God: Don't be sorry, just learn to Trust Me.... in All things , the Good & the bad.

Me: I will trust You.

God: And don't doubt that My plan for your day is Always Better than your plan.

Me: I won't God. And let me just tell you God, Thank You for Everything today.

God: You're welcome child. It was just another day being your God and I Love looking after My Children...

Then you're not a Catholic. And Muslims do believe different things. Part of Christianity is believing Jesus is God. I'm not being critical of you. You can believe whatever you want. But words mean things. They have definitions and set parameters. The primary parameter for someone calling themselves "Christian" (and Catholicism is a Christian denomination) is believing Jesus is God Himself. Not a prophet. That's just a fact.

In a way, Muslims are Christians. Jesus was a prophet who will come back again on judgment day. It's kind of Christianity-lite. Muslims listen to Jesus, but don't believe him to be God's son. However, Mary was a virgin when he was conceived.

I'm still trying to understand this. I've only been a Muslim since April.

That's 100% true.

But Islam is also 87% closer to Christianity than any of the other options, so given the alternatives you'd expect Christians to accept Muslims before most other options. Which is not actually what you find in practice. Hence the recognition/celebration of the unexpected solidarity.

Not exactly. "Muslims believe the same things as Catholics" would be "we don't think anything different from the Muslims". What was actually said was "we don't think anything different of the Muslims", which is more along the lines of "The Cathiolic sentiment towards Islam is not substantially diferent from the average Catholic sentiment toward the majority of other non-Catholic sects"

Rockstone is saying that we (Catholics) regard Muslims in the same way they (Catholics) regard any other religious group

Now you can take this two ways. If you think Rockstone is a Progressive RC, which he prolly is as he speaks well of JP 2, then he is saying that Catholics, like all faiths and enjoy the dialogue between groups. But a regressive Catholic, or any snarky bastard on Fark, will point out that a "True Catholic" believes all non Catholics are going to hell, so Muslims are just the same as Lutherans.

The Bible clearly states that we are saved by faith alone (Rom 3:28, Eph 2:8, etc.) and not by works. All this sucking up to to Jesus won't save them from eternal damnation unless they are prepared to accept Him as their Lord and Savior.

Naw, most of my family and a good chunk of my friends are religious, it doesn't bother me because none of them are evangellical in their beliefs. I was raised RC, very big on social justice, and not regressive in the least. I believe the term of Fark would be a cafeteria Catholic, or you know - the ones that actually try to be good and not buy every crystal cathedral that goes on sale. And our priest was Zen.

EmmaLou: In a way, Muslims are Christians. Jesus was a prophet who will come back again on judgment day. It's kind of Christianity-lite. Muslims listen to Jesus, but don't believe him to be God's son. However, Mary was a virgin when he was conceived.

I'm still trying to understand this. I've only been a Muslim since April.

In regards to the role of Christ, Muslims are more similar to Mormons than Catholics. Even some Jewish lites. They believe Jesus is a prophet but not the promised messiah and certainly not God

Correct. Christmas is a great day to mount an attack, what with everyone getting merry and all. God: Yeah. I gave you and everyone else in the world free will. I am now hands off and work less than one miracle (any divine intervention at all is a miracle) per year. So I didn't do anything nor allow anything to happen. Quite frankly your belief that you are so important that I should literally do multiple miracles a day to fix the most minor issues in your life is why you will never make it to heaven.

Me: Oh.

God: Also, you genuinely think you are able to talk with god when nobody can. So you are hearing voices and should probably check your self into the local nuthouse and get that fixed.

Me: True. Off to do that now.

But at least nobody had a gun.

phrawgh: Me: God, can I ask You a question?

"So what about the kid that drunk driver did kill?"
"Fark him"

A shortage of what? You know, being an omniscient guy who created everything in the universe in 6 days, you'd think he'd talk like less of an idiot.

OK, wise guy...

1) Why the fark did you send a death angel to my bed in the first place?

2) Why didn't you stop the drunk driver's car from starting? Surely that would have made more sense, since there must have been others at risk.

3) Why did you make that poor guy sick in the first place?

4) And yet you don;t step up to save the guys who are wrongfully imprisoned for years because of people bearing false witness?

5) Maybe you could have not sent me a faulty electrical product?

No Such Agency: Rockstone:
/ I have talked to alot of the fundamentalists who are convinced that Muslims are evil. I don't understand why. Muslims are very devout, religious people who do believe Jesus was a prophet.

Those fundamentalists also think that you can live an evil life but as long as you accept Jesus as the Son of God and your personal savior, you will go to heaven (see the "saved by faith alone" troll post above)... but virtuous non-believers are hellbound no matter how nice they've been. They don't like Catholics much either... except when it's convenient to fight against women's rights together. Their outlook is hopelessly twisted.

Doctrines like that pretty much drove me away from organized religion...

arentol: Shhhh.

Well, they are NOW!

Don't matter none. Neither one of 'em's real Christianstm anyways

//// Actually, very cool. Good that different religious groups can come together in the spirit of brotherhood the season is intended to promote.

jmsvrsn: I don't think you understood a thing that he said. I am also a Catholic and my only disagreement with Rockstone is that I don't regard all religious sects equally. I have a deep abiding hatred for evangelical protestant faiths.

I don't hate the evangelical protestants, but they can get very annoying. The whole "by faith alone" thing has never made sense to me. A good person, regardless of their faith, deserves to go to heaven more than a bad person who believes.

Begoggle: Rockstone: / I have talked to alot of the fundamentalists who are convinced that Muslims are evil. I don't understand why.

Because it's human nature to have an enemy.
That's whoever is different.

That is so sad. If people focused on similarities and not differences, the world would be a better place.

taurusowner: Rockstone: I'm a Catholic, and I'd like to point out that we don't think anything different of the Muslims than any other religious group. Note that Pope John Paul II prayed with Muslims.

/ I have talked to alot of the fundamentalists who are convinced that Muslims are evil. I don't understand why. Muslims are very devout, religious people who do believe Jesus was a prophet.

You know how I can tell you have poor reading skills?

We're missing the point. I think that the important thing is to remember to accentuate our differences and ignore or not celebrate our similarities. After all... it's worked out so well for the last 1000+ years!
