Why are federal courts bothered about embezzlement on Indian land but not - as I understand from previous Fark threads - about child abuse?

Take 150,000 and they will come after you

Seems like stealing $150k should be significantly harder to do as a cashier than as a dealer.

How did it take them that long to notice?

gazillion cameras in that place.

He'd better cash in his chips.

I thought Cashier uniforms didn't have pockets just to prevent silly little misunderstandings like this.

Grand jurors allege Logsdon in 2008 double-counted certain winning cash out vouchers that casino customers presented for payment and kept more than $150,000 from these duplicated vouchers

Why would this go to a grand jury? There should be enough video evidence to put her away post haste. The winner goes to the cage, presents the voucher, the cashier scans it in to the system, counts out the money and spreads it on the counter for the camera and the winner scoops up the cash and gets mugged in the parking lot. It's an established system.

Should be plenty of video of her crotching the money and her drawer should come up short at close. It should have only happened once and she wouldn't have gotten away with it.

Not to white knight, but maybe the casino came up a little short in the count and needed a fall gal.

BalugaJoe: gazillion cameras in that place.

I work in a surveillance room for a casino in the very same state.

If the accounting auditors are overwhelmed or understaffed i can see this happening very easily. Unless you want to put a couple hundred of thousand into some analytics software surveillance probably won't know what that ticket is coming into the cashier cage, just the amount going out. If that cashier's bank does not match up to her ticket count, and they don't know about it for over a year, that's on revenue audit. Not surveillance.

Casino surveillance cameras are no panacea althought I wouldn't test it on purpose. I accidentally stole like 8 white chips in a poker game from the dude next to me because boat casinos have crappy card rooms with cramped tables. The cameras could not tell exactly how many chips had been moved and the bum broke ass gambler was accusing me of taking 50 chips. Luckily I settled at 30 and was kicked out for the night. No jail :-)

If I ever stole money from a place I worked I would steal the kinda money that you use to retire on and live in a non extradition country.

I used to do casino surveillance and subsequent casino surveillance consulting and came to say the same thing. That being said my casino used to audit daily and surveillance had to do a check for every discrepency over $20. I can't imagine auditing being that lax unless someone in auditing was also involved in the scheme.

This in my town, and of course all over the news here in the state. I'm just glad it wasn't my tribe, or a member of my family.

Interesting. How is it that the casino can file charges FOUR years later on a long since fired employee? Was she fired for another reason and they stumbled across some old surveillance tapes, or did it take this long to build the case?
