sherpa18: This thread needs more cats. Christmas cats, to be exact.... [ image 192x144] / let's rock...

I just now re-upped my TF to say to you, sherpa18: YOU ARE MY HERO!
I let the TF sub. run out 'cuz I started 'not hanging out' on Caturday, 'cuz there were less & less cat pix. Recently, as a lurker, I scrolled thru 2 pages (100 posts) of chatter.
Yeah, yeah, I'm ready for the flack (?) and, if you take this personal...well, that's your issue.
Call me a stickler for by-gone days, IIRC, there was an unwritten understanding that chat was more than welcome --- but, have the courtesy to post a cat pic (or dog, or whatEvar)
For anyone having 'puter/posting/cationing problems... whatever happened to that awesome "how-to" on page one?
And... when referring back to a posted pic ... (whendidwestopidentifyingthepicwearequoting.jpg)?
And,,,what's with you Mr. first 4 Black Sabbath Albums??? You get married and then quit being a jerk??? That ain't no way to go through Fark, son. This is for you anyway:

Extremely tired after a long day of work, so just one pic again tonight. No cats, terrorists, or scaly animals in this one, just a pic from last Christmas of the B4 family at my mom's house. I posted this because we should celebrate not just the animals, but our family as well, and given what has gone on this year in the B4 house, it's something we should cherish. I want to thank each and everyone on Fark, as well as the Caturday folk especially, for the support, laughs, and love you all gave to me and my wife and kids as we went through a pretty difficult summer and fall. You all helped me and my kids keep our sanity and remain grounded and gave the wife plenty of laughs and smiles each week as we moved forward on our new path of life. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all very much, and may you all have a Merry Christmas with your furry, scaly, and human family members. God bless you all, and hope that everyone has the best Christmas.

Lurk off:

I see your surreptitious sneaky spousal shots and raise you a self reveal!

Best wishes to you and yours this Holiday* season!

*in this instance the term "holiday" is intended to encompass any and all celebrations this time of year.

Caturday Farkers, please consider yourselves honorary guests on Wednesday :) My joy in this season lies in loving and celebrating the special people in my life. The ones who lift me up when I'm down and allow me to pick them up in return. Ergo I host a "Boxing Day Brunch" for all of my friends. Pajamas are mandatory. BYOB for those who indulge. I provide everything else. Streaming/DVD movies on 2 TVs all day long. Starts when you get here (no earlier than 9am please) and ends when you feel like leaving. Got kids and wanna bring em? Bring em. Got kids and don't want to bring em? Surrender them to a family member or find a sitter. And if you have to work on 12/26 go there in your jammies. Tell em I said so!

Hi Everyone.

I apologize in having been so utterly quiet the last few weeks.
Health took another downturn, ended up having emergency surgery that`s left
me literally unable to speak due to the trauma done to my mouth in order to get some fast moving tumors out of my face.
It`s left me with the left half wired and stitched all up and as we feared due to having pieces of bone removed and exposed - a wonderful christmastime infection.
So I`ve been holed up being very sick and on the edge of wishing it was all over.

But the end of the world did not happen today so I figure that must be a good sign at least and I could not ignore the incredibly sweet emails sent my way pleading for me to come join in on some family fun.

So though I may be sick, not able to speak except superb `mumblese` and have a swollen and battered looking face with dozens of cracks in my facial bones due to the chemo making my bones so porus and brittle - I am here, and am trying my best to smile and hopefully get to wish those with Happy Young Days, condolences for those who have losses, congrats for those with good news and random spouting of silliness I know some of said that they have missed.

This will be the first Christmas without the boys. However, I can only look back and remember with only happiness that I was able to give Ben Hurr his only Christmas before he was gone two weeks later - and oh what a christmas it was for them :3
I still have their tree...
Gremlin apparently finds a real tree that is omgsobig so much better to be bratty in :)

professional_vampire: Sherpa - thanks for the great news about Dragon. I'm in Livingston until noon today - if it wasn't Christmas Eve, I'd come over and give him congratulatory skritches (and maybe smuggle in some spicy wings!).

My thanks to you and everyone else here who expressed their concern and love for my white boy. So far this evening, we have taken down and chased 4 ornaments off the tree, beaten the evil potato toy into submission (ripping it open in the process), enjoyed some 'nip, and then took various toys out of the toy box to make a minefield for daddy to step on. This is truly the best Christmas present I could ever have hoped for. :o)

Oh, and the fuzzball actually did get wings for Christmas (well, sorta) courtesy of the one and only spinach gunk ...

Off again for my daily rounds.. to make sure everything is performing as needed.. got six stops to go.. had to go to the Brewery late, heat went out and a party was sheduled.. turned out to be a thermostat issue..all is good.
Feral Fred doesn't seem to mind being confined at night.. he can't get out, but nothing can get in also... and he gets food (with meds) in the morning... his purr volume has been increasing.. definitely audible now...  Just started to rain.. TWC doppler shows that it will be here for a while.. looks like it will be a soaker style... which will benefit the low water table.. and raise some reservoir levels..
SO glad to hear that Dragon is doing so well.. he,s a major part of the Fark family.. my neice calls him the Christmas Kitty, due to the red and green eyes... her daughter suggested trying him as a tree topper.. we had to explain why that wouldn't work well.. her suggestion was to put a platform up there for him to sit on.. very smart little girl.. I think I may have found an apprentice..  and she likes tools.... 8 yr old redhead... with patience !

Well, since you asked (ok, you really did not ask), but I haz a happy, so it's a great excuse for me to post a Dragon update...the white boy is doing amazingly well, he continues to eat like a pig, he is taking his meds with no problem, and iz still playing like a kitten. Plus we are not having any litter box issues, AND ... AND ... the vomiting (which is normally unavoidable at this point) seems to be ... DECREASING! Only twice in the past 23 days...

/ btw, I have a favor to ask of the caturday crew... I'll be more specific tomorrow, I gotta go eat.

Maybe I'll snatch on my next fixin' foray yonder.  Cept it's nearly time for din-din here -- will waste the time to say I did finnish & sent Section 6 of the transcription. Now have just the furrin' stuff & the nets to transcr; I do copy last yr's directory pages & Fix. Saves a little time.

Cover of Bas Bleu catalog in their most recent e-mail. Doubt we've a hard copy of this one, & I didn't see who artist is. May find that after din-din for all.

Saw the post from our Alien... that lady has gone through so much pure hell.. tough as nails, though.. So glad to see her posts.. I wish her, and the entire Caturday family, a very Merry Christmas..
Went out to the Church where my friend's twin daughters are buried.. left a small Christmas Tree and a couple of little toys on the grave.. others have been there too... she hasn't been at work for a couple of weeks.. first Christmas without them.. we all grieve with her.. she is having an incredibly difficult time right now.. and there is nothing we can do..
I am stepping up the RFID controller project.. seems a raccoon has found Fred,s sanctuary and food supply.. no food is being left in there now, so maybe it will stay away.. I am concerned that it may try to move in.. it is a sheltered area... I think the heated bed may be a big draw, though Fred would probably open a can of whupass over that !  I will be latching the pet door closed tonight.. there is a litterbox in there, but Fred won't be happy about being confined..  The indoor crew is doing well, all healthy for now.. had a flock of birds on the front lawn this morning.. all facing windows were occupied, with much commentary ensuing... a couple of birds were hovering right outside the LR window.. four cats on one cat tree platform, trying to climb up on each other.. definite ROFL moment...
My condolences to those who have lost companions.. it will always hurt..
Food time for the Crew.. BBL

Legend at Midnight
I had heard the legends,
Reveled in the stories,
The richness of the tale.

And so,
One bitterly cold Christmas Eve,
I snuck into the stable.

I needed to know,
Needed to see,
If the animals truly
At Midnight.

I hid in Big Mac's
Knowing him to be
A gentle soul.

I could hear the others,
Settle down to slumber.
The warmth of their breath,
The scent of hay,
The barn cat snuggled into my side,

Tumbled me down,
Into sleep.

I woke,

Left the stall.

The animals were indeed stirring.
Horses chuffed as I passed,
Offering velvet noses
For stroking.

Gazes with liquid eyes.
Begs for one more carrot.

Cow stirs in her byre.
I hear her soft lowing.

Several cats,
Wind their way,
Through my legs.

Offering their glad tidings.

The earth is still.
The sky ablaze with light.

The animals do indeed speak,
Calling us all to Love,
Cherish, Care.

Without words.
If only we pause,

tigerose 12/22/12

Just what I needed. a good cat thread.

Lost my 18 year old, Wednesday. Came home Monday night and I knew something was a miss when she was downstairs in the "dog domain" and laying in front of the DOG water bowl. I'm guessing she had a stroke, her left legs weren't quite working and her eye was droopy. came home Wednesday, having scheduled an appointment to see the vet and have her put down and she had already passed.

To clear up a question from last week, Scampi was a rescue cat, however, she was not fixed when she came home with us because they were back logged at the clinic the shelter used. It was another month after I got her until her appointment was scheduled. Sake' was a stray who adopted us, and was scheduled to undergo the snip on the same day. Unfortunately, I forgot, and they got busy before I realized it. So we'll see what happens in a few more months. And as for the Galleria of Lizards, all the Bearded Babies left the house last weekend, so we are baby animal free right now for the time being.

I lacks the captioning skillz. Lovely kitties you have, especially Josephine.

I want to go to the humane society today, but I don't want to subject a newly acclimating kitty to a household all topsy turvy from the holidays. Depending on whether or not my mom takes her week at the condo time share in January, we might avail ourselves to a kitty to adopt us at the start of the new year. Maybe even two kitties (hopefully.)

Personally I'm sticking with 7. Win-8 seems to be a just lateral move unless you have a touchscreen. Lately, Microsoft's idea of upgrades is to just scramble the menus and hide everything.

Happy Winter Solstice, everyone!
From today on out, the hours of sunlight will lengthen.

Finished passing out the last of the truffles today!
Costco has some chocolate truffles this time o' year which are deadly delicious- rich, almost buttery in their texture, and just sweet enough to offset the chocolate. Mmmmmm...
Every year, I give them to the library, the local health and mental health clinics, my vet, the valet parking dudes and staff at physical therapy, and the pharmacy and automotive folks at The Store Which Must Not Be Named. This year my dentist and his wonderful staff got added to the list as well.

All year, these good folk bust their butts to give good service to a clientele. Figure they deserve some recognition and appreciation...and if it takes the form of wondrously good chocolate, well so much the better...stuff is supposed to be good for one's heart, right? RIGHT?

Need to do just a bit more procuring of gift cards- then (gulp) the wrapping.
Got my group home a practical gift...half-dozen bath towels. I need to run them around the sewing machine* to reinforce the edges before I wrap them up. Got the guys some individual goodies too...figure towels comes right up there in getting clothes for Christmas when you were a kid.

Was taking some catnip for the group home's cat Charlie and managed to break my catnip jar.
WAAAHHH!!! I've had that jar for over 20 years! It actually made me sad, and not just because I had to sweep up broken glass...I'd gotten rather attached to it. Silly, huh?
It was just a little glass Smucker's jelly jar, but it had its own space in the cinderblock and board bookcase, and the cats recognized the jar. I'd bring it out and they'd go into their 'Happy-happy-joy-joy give-it-to-me-NAOW' song and dance.
The visual recognition also helped when I wanted to convince them to hurry up and come inside...bring the jar out, hold it up so they can see it and I am TRAMPLED by cats in a hurry. Same thing with the treat jar, except that signal is auditory- "rattle rattle rattle".
CHARGE! Better get outta the way quickly...the two big cats are pretty substantial.
Only problem is I have to put out two kinds of treats. Riktor and D'Artagnan absolutely LOVE GreeniesTM...but Wimsey and Raven prefer the ones from Purina, thank you...

Need to cook up some of the ground chicken I bought for D'Artagnan, see if that is acceptable. The panther-boy does NOT like the gushyfud that the other cats happily inhale, but I just don't feel it's fair (or helps the social dynamic) if he misses out on treats that the other cats are getting. "I offered it to you...YOU'RE the one who didn't like it" is just not something cats are equipped to understand...or appreciate.
Not sure how much I'll be around this weekend...lot of last minute preparation- you know how it goes.

Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

* I do this with all new towels, sheets, pillowcases. Sounds a bit OCD, but reinforcing the hems and edges prevents ravelling or coming unstitched. Actually does save time in the long run...
