Well, he'll have played the same role in 3 movies. I never followed the Avengers comics, so who is up the villain role?

Good. The villain was the worst part of the Avengers, which usually kills a movie like this but it had other things going for it. Two things that were covered in black rubber.

Seriously. Good on him/them. I came here to say something similar.

That purple faced alien looks like a cool villain (can't remember his name offhand), I hope they stick with him.

Thanos, and he could be very cool. It depends on what kind of setup they do throughout the next set of standalone films.

Infighting is inevitable given the role they've developed for Stark.  And Hiddleston is right, Loki is played out.  There's nothing else for the character.

There's plenty of setup they can do.  There's going to be an Iron Man 3, Black Widow, Hulk 2, Thor 2 and Captain America 2 and supposedly even a Hawkeye movie.  Well, at least four of those will happen (IM3, T2, CA2 and one of the others).  Plenty of backstory setup available.

Someone is due to make a good Hulk movie...it has to happen some day? Right?

As for Widow, a better movie would eventually be a film noir style Winter Solider/Widow movie

Don't forget Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man.

Guardians are in pre-production/casting while Ant-Man has been greenlit with a script and Edgar Wright attached to direct.

I loved Tom Hiddleston as Loki. He could shift between amicable prankster-god and scheming, evil, menacing bastard so well. He also appeared to have a great time with the character, too. I really hope he gets a chance to reprise the role in the future. This time with some Enchantress action at his side.

As well, there are rumours that Marvel are trying to get back the rights to the Silver Surfer and Galactus from Fox in exchange for giving them more time to do a Daredevil movie before those rights lapse. That would be cool if that happens.

Given that (a) the IG was in Odin's throne room and (b) Thanos was missing his right gauntlet in his Avengers cameo, I think it's a safe bet it will factor into Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor 2, Avengers 2 or some combination of the above. There's no other good reason to purposefully show his hand.

And yes, before anyone nerd rages on me, I'm aware that the IG was on his left in the comics. But the one in the throne room was for the right hand.

Loki was the original Avengers villain in the comics, so having him in the first movie made sense. If the gem in Loki's staff is the Mind Gem and the Infinity Gauntlet is currently in Odin's treasure vault, then there's a good chance that Loki won't survive until Avengers 2...maybe.

I'm a fan of the idea that Loki getting captured in the Avengers was all part of his plan. Loki returns by himself, if he even can, he'll be seen as a potential threat and taken down. Return as a prisoner, people's guards will be lowered, making it that much easier to steal the Gauntlet.

For now. Depending on how long they can keep it interesting he may be useful in a future plot but yeah, wrapping him up in Thor 2 and going to Thanatos for 2 is a good idea.

I wonder how much of this is due to feeling that the character's possibilities have been exhausted versus how much Hiddleston wants to back away from the batshiat craziness of some of his fans. I mean, every actor who's remotely successful will have a few fans who are a little too into him, but the women who go after Hiddleston take it to a whole new level.

/found out one of my sort-of friends was writing Hiddleston smut which she couldn't stop talking about. Don't talk to her much now, probably for the best.

Entire articles point is Hiddleston doesn't expect to be in A2 because Joss hasn't called yet and it's late in pre-production. Sounds pretty clear that there was no place in A2 for Loki. The positive part for Hiddleston is he was smart enough to get why.

One thing comics and pro-wrestling have in common is that the stable of babyfaces and heels can change but you have your face and your heel fight each other then they go back in the pool for a different arc.

Wayne 985: I loved his acting, but hated the character. He was basically a jealous baby throwing a temper tantrum.

Somewhat, but more. He's the jealous younger brother who one day finds out that he's adopted, and what's more, isn't of the same species as the rest of his family, but instead is a frost giant, a race he's been taught to both hate and to look down upon. So he ends up with a massive inferiority complex that he's trying to compensate for. He now HAS to prove himself equal to or better than Thor, somehow.

I'd kinda like to see him captured by Thanos and tortured for his failure. Sort of off to the side and in chains in Thanos's throne room. Present, but unable to do anything.

I saw Captain America before the Avengers, but I initially skipped Thor, as it got pretty bad reviews. I actually just watched it for the first time about two weeks ago. It wasn't bad, and having the backstory for Thor and Loki was nice. Hiddleston has some pretty good acting chops. I could see him going on to do some really good work.

Or they could do the comic storyline from back when I was reading comics where it was hot red-head Black Widow agent of SHIELD vs hot blonde Black Widow who is a russian agent. They could do some cool stuff there by explaining the real Widow's origin and how she is russian. Plus it would mean twice as many actresses in the super tight outfits.

I still believe that EVERYTHING that happens in the movie was all part of Loki's plan, right down to getting beat up by the Hulk. That would be a better fit with his background of "ancient god of mischief and deceit who can weave very intricate schemes indeed", more than just being beaten by a group of mere mortals in their very first team-up.

Loki's quest for power and the throne seems too obvious for the god of trickery. I think he's got hidden goals, like ensuring the survival of Asgard itself, that might get developed in future movies. Essentially, the Avengers movie didn't have as many hidden layers as I expect from Whedon.

Maybe when he was lost off the Bridge in the 1st Thor movie, he roamed the universe, discovered some VERY scary bad guys, and didn't want them to destroy Earth or Asgard, so he found a way to lure the weakest of them (chitauri) to Earth as a warm-up and to spur the formation of the Avengers, before it was too late. Why let his true people suffer in battle against Thanos's armada when he can send Earth's heroes in first? In a fight against true nihilists, even the villains join in against them.

If someday we find out that Loki is the reason the Cube was on Earth to begin with, then I'll have some evidence that Loki can make long-term plans over millenia...
