"A survey released by Fairleigh Dickinson University earlier this year determined that Fox News viewers were actually less informed that Americans who watched no news at all. In fact, at least seven studies in recent years have confirmed that Fox News viewers are more likely to be misinformed than other Americans."

I went to the Titan Missile Museum south of Tucson a few months ago. On the way back we were talking about how crazy it was back 'in the day' with Duck and Cover and post-nuclear war movies and bomb shelters and so forth. We flipped on the radio and ended up finding Sean Hannity as he was interviewing Oliver North for his futuristic book set in 2032 that was, according to Sean, exactly true. We laughed and laughed and laughed. It was too crazy to take seriously. And yet I know people who do.

I am sad to say that one of my cousins is a prepper. He lives in Norway. Who is gonna mess with Norway? They don't bother anyone (usually), so "prepping" for something that will most likely not happen is just silly. The Germans aren't really a threat anymore, IMO, so prepping for what? Invasion of a shirtless Vladimir Putin? Norwegians are the rich ones in that region, so I guess if he wants to hoard food "just in case", knock yourself out, dude, you can, like, totally afford it. We Cali dwelling relatives will merely stockpile weapons and ammo and take it from you when we finish building a long ship. The crazy is far extended in  my family, but at least we're not Hannity type crazy. Just "get away from me *smack!*" or "I'm armed, MFer" crazy.

I think I heard Hannity once or twice and had the same reaction as I did to Fox News. I sometimes wonder if they actually believe this stuff themselves, then remember about other people like Ann Coulter and realize that some of them do. That is scary. Can't we all just sit around, hold hands and sing "Kumbaya"? Yeesh.

Well of course. One of his quips in the 90s was something along the lines of 'no need to read the news as I will tell you what is going on'. Usually this was either right before or after his statement that his listeners didn't need anyone to tell them how to think (bashing the MSM).

yes, actually.  Limbaugh is starting to really get desperate.  look, he's cost his bosses a ton of money, the GOP leadership is starting to see him as more of a liability than an asset and EVERYONE else in the talk radio biz is looking at him as the reason they're all losing money.  His enemies are mounting and he's got NO friends.  a couple/few allies but nobody to watch his back that isn't already on the payroll.

I think that's why he's he's pushing the talking points and not venturing forth on his own.  he's trying to play nice with his fellow nutballs, blend in, be one of the pundit crowd.

I follow the show if/when there's a big story on the news.  its interesting to see what the GOP response is going to be for the week.  Limbaugh is usually one of the big names to set the right wing tone on major policy points/issues.

I gotta say tho, lately Rush hasn't been very useful.  the GOP as a whole is probably in the weakest position i've ever seen - nobody is holding them together, there isn't a recognizable leader and I think their unity is starting to fracture.  they're starting the process of figuring out who to blame for their losses in the past election and none of the GOP insiders want to catch that blame.  watching them try and come to some sort of consensus is fascinating.

"Most Muslims are terrorists and don't believe in Jesus Christ."

It's sad how shoe-on-head retarded most fundies are when it comes to Islam.

Pretend you're a fundy. You believe Jesus is God, you're against abortion and homosexuality, etc. For some reason, you want to take sides in a shiatty ethnic conflict 8000 miles away. Do you support:

(A) The people who think Jesus is a great prophet and saint, though not God. They are even more strongly against abortion and homosexuality than you are.
(B) The people who believe Jesus was at best a fraud, at worst an evil man boiling in shiat in hell. They generally support abortion and homosexuality.

If you chose (B), congratulations! Your framed Jesus-with-M16 print will arrive within 4 to 6 weeks.

This has always got me as well. 3.2 beer is abw, not abv.

3.2 abw =~4.1 abv

Bud light = 4.2 abv.

Therefore, bud light = near beer for all intents and purposes.

If you are a Muslim (or a Jew or a Christian for that matter) living in America the only thing I have to say to you is that there are alternatives. Buddhism and Jainism are two examples. Both are free of the calls to violence and misogyny that plague the Abrahamic faiths. You don't have to keep stepping over the ugly parts of the Torah, the Bible, or the Koran just to live a peaceful life. You are also free to keep your faith as well of course, whatever anyone else might say, myself included. You are also free to abandon religion altogether. Opportunities like this are part of the reason why America has never devolved into a theocracy like other nations have.

It's Me Bender: "Most Muslims are terrorists and don't believe in Jesus Christ."

I just wanted to point out that you sound nothing like Bender.

"Most Muslims are terrorists and don't believe in Jesus Christ."

"(most) don't believe in Jesus Christ"?

That's an ambiguity of English syntax. Does "most" qualify all items on the list or just the next one? Only the speaker knows.

bingo the psych-o: Islam does have serious issues but this guy isn't helping.

Give it a thought.

yes, actually.

It amazes me what they go out of their way to avoid teaching in high schools. You'd think there might be a little more honesty regarding the actual events of history. Is this why people are complaining about liberal indoctrination in our public schools and universities? Because we avoid teaching the truth about the bad things while reinforcing the shiny, happy nationalist/patriotic moments?

The saying is "A pint's a pound, the whole world round." Of course, that's not right, as only a US pint is 16 floz; the British pint is 20 floz. Besides, a US pint of water weighs just slightly over one pound, so that part's wrong, too.

I'm guessing it's NOT.

I highly doubt that high schools in red states teach that the god of Islam is also the god of Judaism and Christianity (the God of Abraham in this case, hence the term "Abrahamic Religions"), and would not be the least bit surprised if there turns out to be legislation on the books in the deep south that expressly forbids the teaching of this little fact in school.

Likewise, it is somewhat improbable that students in those states will ever learn from their teachers the fact that the Arab, Arabic-speaking Christians in Lebanon call the god they worship "Allah," much less that it's the same god that American Christians (publicly claim to) worship.

Sadly I think you are wrong there.

Friend of mine dropped out of high school when his history teacher informed the class that black-knights were called that because their armor was dirty or some sort of BS along that line.

So, somewhere in the US, some teacher is preparing course material based on what they saw on Fox News the previous night with those views presented as facts.
