So does science.

"Most people not in {$religion} don't know the funny quirks of {$religion}, such as {$Islam} which believes in {$Jesus} but isn't {$Christianity}."

The fact that Islam is a spinoff of Christianity the same way Christianity is a spinoff of Jewdom is not a funny quirk. In fact I'm pretty sure it is covered in every high school in the country.

I'm guessing it's NOT.

I highly doubt that high schools in red states teach that the god of Islam is also the god of Judaism and Christianity (the God of Abraham in this case, hence the term "Abrahamic Religions"), and would not be the least bit surprised if there turns out to be legislation on the books in the deep south that expressly forbids the teaching of this little fact in school.

Likewise, it is somewhat improbable that students in those states will ever learn from their teachers the fact that the Arab, Arabic-speaking Christians in Lebanon call the god they worship "Allah," much less that it's the same god that American Christians (publicly claim to) worship.

SquiggsIN: buckler: TopoGigo: The saying is "A pint's a pound, the whole world round." Of course, that's not right, as only a US pint is 16 floz; the British pint is 20 floz. Besides, a US pint of water weighs just slightly over one pound, so that part's wrong, too.

I guess "a liter's a kilogram the whole world 'round" doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

and it still wouldn't be accurate. i know it sounds crazy but every substance in existence doesn't have the same density!

Yeah. Based on distilled water, as I recall.

I don't think it is, actually. I remember learning a little about world religions in a junior high social studies class, but that's about it. Then again, the "Bible Belt" doesn't exactly tolerate other religions very well.

Which is the lamer sequel to Christianity? Mormonism or islam?

Then again, all religions suck.

Mormonism and yes. The lady and I are planning on packing up and moving to the Pacific Northwest next fall. I cannot wait to escape the south.

I wouldn't "blame" Fox. Ultimately the buck stops with this man and his actions. I'd just point to it as evidence of its corrosive influence on our culture. I'm sure Fox viewers would say the same about "gangsta" rap. Probably video games, too, as you brought up.

Guys, girls?, 45 beers is about a handle of liquor. There are people that drink that much in a day. Sad, but true. They do often end up on jail or a hospital, like this guy.

Drew: "Challenge accepted."

Bud Light doesn't count

/why do you "manly" types think it makes you look tough to drink chick beer

This has always got me as well. 3.2 beer is abw, not abv.

3.2 abw =~4.1 abv

Bud light = 4.2 abv.

Therefore, bud light = near beer for all intents and purposes.

A quart's a pound the world around. Your maths, you should check it!

except a quart is a measure of volume and "pounds" are not. technically not a measure of mass either, pounds are a measure of weight (which varies on earth based on elevation).

The saying is "A pint's a pound, the whole world round." Of course, that's not right, as only a US pint is 16 floz; the British pint is 20 floz. Besides, a US pint of water weighs just slightly over one pound, so that part's wrong, too.

Not to mention, a British pint is actually ~19 US oz. The customary/imperial differences are incredibly annoying to anyone who imports or exports things.

On the other hand, that means the rare bar that serves on tap in 20 US oz is the best pint you'll find anywhere....

No more corrosive than gangsta rap or video games. The only corrosive thing around these days is government's prohibition of liberty in both conservative (who have a point) and liberal (who also have a point) philosophies.

Oznog: bingo the psych-o: Islam does have serious issues but this guy isn't helping.

If you are a Muslim (or a Jew or a Christian for that matter) living in America the only thing I have to say to you is that there are alternatives. Buddhism and Jainism are two examples. Both are free of the calls to violence and misogyny that plague the Abrahamic faiths. You don't have to keep stepping over the ugly parts of the Torah, the Bible, or the Koran just to live a peaceful life. You are also free to keep your faith as well of course, whatever anyone else might say, myself included. You are also free to abandon religion altogether. Opportunities like this are part of the reason why America has never devolved into a theocracy like other nations have.

Give it a thought.

It can be both.

Is anyone at all surprised by this? The only thing that shocks me is that the guy was able to be conscious, walk to the car, and drive all that way after 45 beers. That has to be a typo or something, right?

By other Fox "logic" we can blame the liberal MSM mainstream media for letting him down, and forcing him to watch Fox. Obama's to blame too for creating an atmosphere of fear by being a Kenyan usurper, and socialism.

You know, I always thought that "a pint's a pound the whole world 'round" was like a Guinness advertisement or something from when beer cost £1 for a pint everywhere.

Sadly I think you are wrong there.

Friend of mine dropped out of high school when his history teacher informed the class that black-knights were called that because their armor was dirty or some sort of BS along that line.

So, somewhere in the US, some teacher is preparing course material based on what they saw on Fox News the previous night with those views presented as facts.

interestingly enough, Limbaugh spent an hour or so today calling Obama voters 'cultists' and saying people who vote Democrat are 'low information voters'.

In grade school we commonly referred to this as the "I am rubber you are glue" gambit.
