CapnPlaty: Moronic. As long as nut jobs can still buy assault rifles these types of killings will continue, and idiots still still blame video games. They sell fps video games in Great Britain and Germany, do they have mass shootings as often?

I'm genuinely asking... on my phone, don't plan on looking up the answer any time soon.

The nutjobs wouldn't know what to do with those guns if it wasn't for violent video games and movies training them how. Do you think our military would use so many simulators for their training if they don't work? I don't think so.

Video games are at least 90% to blame for these events.

Because there is a rational reason to own an assault rifle?

You want a handgun for personal protection, okay I'll buy that. Shotgun for hunting? Sure. But why would anyone need an assault rifle?

And "because the second amendment says I can" is a bullshiat answer. There is personal responsibility true, but also public responsibility.

No, I totally get it-the games we play can influence our lives.  I mean, I spent hundreds of hours in minecraft, and now every evening after work I go home and dig in my yard.  It's not the same, though, it turns out that in real life, dirt is dirty.

Also I hit the sewer line and almost drowned in human feces.  That doesn't happen in minecraft.

Do video games somehow not count? If advertisers spend millions on advertisements towards impressionable youth, how can you say that some nut won't take the messages in games too far?

It has taught me that I care not about how many goddamn units it costs to obliterate an enemy city, or how desolate and barren I leave the countryside in my efforts to destroy an opponent's economy and break his will. It has shown me the darkest side of myself, and I no longer play it. Mainly because the computer is a cheating sonofawhore, but that moral shiat's all out there.

Despite what the news media and television cop dramas have shown, most kids playing FPS games at home would freeze up and/or soil their drawers in a real live fire situation. Saying that that realistic games turn them into calculating trained killers is ludicrous.

Why would anyone need a car that can go 4 times the legal speed limit?

Because it's cool.

Same with an assault rifle. I was playing with toy guns since I was old enough to go "bang bang" with my finger and thumb. It's a testosterone thing I guess because every boy I grew up with as well as my own son did the same thing. Now that we are older we still play with guns either hunting or target practice. People say guns are extensions of our penises and it's hard for me to argue that but damnit I like shooting my guns, they are legal, and I'm not hurting one single person by enjoying them. I keep them in a gun safe so asswipe thiefs can't steal them. What more do you want from me? This is still a relatively free country so you worry about you and I'll worry about me, mmmkay?

I don't quite know. I would guess that this is a catharsis for him, and he wants people with similar feeling to know that it's okay to feel the same way. Sometimes writers don't have agendas beyond simply making connections with their readers.

Kotaku posted an article with two well-known, unrelated mass shooting in its headline, and an opposition to "violent" videogames.

We need to recognize this for what it is. An old farker with kids who can't keep up with videogames.

He says nothing of movies. He says nothing of books. He says nothing of games like Bioshock, which are incredibly violent and incredibly vital works of art. Instead, he's saying he's an old fark that's got oxytocin coursing through his veins and he'd rather get farked up on that than adrenaline.

And to those who question the negative reaction, IT IS BECAUSE HE MADE THESE STATEMENTS ON A GAMING SITE.

If he had kept them in the coffee shop along with the rest of the aging Gen-X'ers desperately seeking to validate decisions that actually amount to biological changes in their brains, he wouldn't have a problem.

fark this guy for invoking unrelated violence.

At the rate we're going, we need to worry more about the virtual denizens which will eventually be smart enough to feel the loss of their lives and the lives of their compatriots. THAT is a genuine issue of videogame violence. Especially when developers keep using words like "virtual central nervous system" to describe their animation toolkit.

And when something that farked up starts to become a reality, we'll need all the partisan vitriol we can muster.

Cool.
I've done a chunk of my high school in Half-Life 2, as well as a few houses I've rented, and friends houses.
Best one was a friend's suburban 2 storey house for Counter-Strike - a hostage map. Had a big brick fence, a sewer path into the pool, working doors and lights, etc. Played it with a bunch of mates and it was awesome.

I don't have any reservations about any games played around me. I do, however, criticize some of my in-laws (only to the wife privately) at their lack of concern for letting their 4, 9, and 13 year olds have access to mature titles with graphic nudity and violence. Their 9 year old has been playing Grand Theft Auto for years and the 4 year old has a mouth like a sailor. I'm very glad they aren't my kids.
