Grover realized that the people he depends on to butter his bread decided to  BREAK THEIR PROMISE. To men a promise is just that your word should be your bond. Just proves that pols will say anything to any one to remain in power. The government does not need more money, they need to downsize just like the rest of America, tighten their belt and stop wasting other peoples money.

Hey, the good news is that he uses the same rationale that the President uses to have the same thing happen with the level at $250k.  That means that Grover can also support that and release his minions from not voting in favour.

Awesome!

Ah, you are just another Fark IndependentTM, aren't you? The government is just wasting your money away. What a simplistic, childish claim.

I'm sorry but aren't we still fighting a war in Afghanistan because they harbored a terrorist organization that killed thousands of Americans? Aren't we still trying to recover for the Great Depression, caused in a large part because of Republican policies to let capitialists run free? Aren't we still paying for the 2001 & 2003 tax cuts which favored the rich while we were engaged in a second, unnecessary war in Iraq?

Personally, I don't like my fellow Americans starving in the streets, lacking basic shelter and health care. You may believe it's none of your concern. But, that's typical of Libertarians, Fark IndependentsTM, Republicans, and very heartless people. That is, until they wind up poor and without shelter themselves. Then they whine even more and blame others for their lot.

No he didn't.  He just knows that the GOP has to vote for something, and there's nothing passing that doesn't have a tax increase on it.  If he doesn't pretend his little pledge doesn't count for his vote he loses what little relevancy he has left.

no, i'm just wondering how you could have said something so monumentally idiotic and expected to not be called out on your bullshiat.  'real menz don't break their promisez dudz' isn't a very intelligent comment, nor does it address what Norquest has been doing and/or inflicting on the GOP for the past couple of years.  then there's the tail end of your comment - something that's right out of Rush Limbaugh and freerepublic: a talking point utterly devoid of intelligence...the one about 'cutting spending will make us free'.  so either you are simply trolling or you're a dittohead follower who really doesn't know any better.

see, that's a problem though - a lot of GOP follower types really DO believe the propaganda and (quite literally) repeat the same things over and over and over again without actually thinking about what it is they're actually saying.  of course, so do the troll and therein lies the proble.

Neither I just know more government is the problem not the answer. We have been increasing government since I was young and every year the same cry from big government types "we are broke". So when does it matter that I want to keep more of the money I worked to earn and not piss it down the government rat hole. When did it become mean and cold hearted to make sure that me and mine are taken care of? I don't ask for handouts from anyone and for that I am to be punished for wanting to be free. I once asked this of a liberal friend. "Why do some hollywood actors have homes in more than one place?" He replied that "They have more money" "So money gives them the freedom to travel and own stuff?" "Yea they are rich" "So money equals freedom? "Yea." "Some when you tax me and take my money you are in fact taking away my freedom?"

so - lets cut military spending, rethink the war on drugs and close all the corporate tax loopholes that let major fortune 500 companies ship money and jobs overseas.  that'll help us all quite a bit.  we're still going to have to raise taxes to cover costs of infrastructure repair though.  that job is too big to do without some extra cash.

Presuming you're not just trolling in good faith, let me clue you in: 'Conservatives' are also "large government types." I know it's directly opposed to everything you've heard and read in your media environment, but it's not as though Republicans aren't widely known to the rest of us as charlatans who the opposite of they so loudly claim to stand for.

'Conservatives' want just much or at least nearly as much Big Government in terms of money and authority. The difference is where it's spent. They want  far more  Big Government when it comes to your personal life. As the saying goes, a government so small that it fits in your vagina," or on your marriage license. So much for "keep the gubmit off my back," eh?

You need to retire this tired-ass "small gubmit" canard. Everyone but you and the other Fox acolytes knows it's bullsh*t. What you mean to say is, "A government that enforces or spends on the issues like." Don't get stuck on stupid, son.

You make so little sense. Don't you want to be left to succeed or fail on your own? Do you really want someone there to hold you hand in case you don't make it. Where did you get the idea that success comes from anyone else but you. I don't agree with the right any more than the left, if you think I am fooled by the dance that is taking place in DC you are mistaken. I don't want or need or will accept government handouts, I just want the government out of my pocketbook out of my life and out of my health. But the idea of not needing or wanting government in my life pisses off people and I am sure you fit that bill.

no, what we're saying is that NOTHING the GOP does is 'small government'.  they bailed out wall street, they started wars around the world, they fund a war on drugs that gets more expensive every year...can you point to anything the GOP does that actually reduces the size of government?  I can't think of anything at all and I'll bet neither can you.

Of course not, government begets more government, the dance going on now is just that a dance, in the end there will be a declared winner and an announced loser. But what will it mean to the people?More of our hard earned money thrown down the government rat hole and I am tired of paying. In my life I have given well in excess of +1 million dollars to the precious government, I think I could have spent that money much better than some government program. I know the next arguments  roads bla bla police bla bla, sure I buy that and I don't begrudge those moneys, but GOVERNMENT IS TOO BIG.. Let me point you to the Bush years.  6 straight years with the Republican's controlling the House, Senate, and White House, with a middle-right leaning Supreme Court.

Those 6 years saw us erase the debt, shrink the size of government, and totally reduced the intrusion into peoples lives, unlike the Clinton years before them.

/Not really.  Republican's are only the party of fiscal responsibility and small government when they are out of power.

2012-12-20 07:37:50 PM
I wish I could have seen the look on the face of the last keyboard warrior I said this to.

They aren't putting tax dollars in DC in a big pile and burning them in a bonfire like the Joker. Money paid in taxes doesn't disappear from the economy, never to be seen again. But that's what conservatives have been telling me for years: "A nickel taxed is a nickel wasted." Just because you don't like everything they spend it on doesn't mean it doesn't get spent.

I see it another way. Money paid in taxes is money invested in a safety net that will keep me from living on the streets and eating dirt if I ever find myself unemployed. It's money that will postpone eviction and buy groceries. I WANT to pay into that system because I WANT it to be there for me. And it had better the fark be there for me when I need it. If I ever find myself in a dire situation, and some conservative has shut down a program that might have helped me, a program that I have so far spent quite a lot of money on, I shall be very, very cross.

So it isn't liberals trying to take my money away, it's conservatives. Conservatives are doing their level best to rob me of that investment that I've made into the last resort defense against calamity. All that money I've already paid, what do you imagine will happen to it if the program ends? Think I'll get it back? Hell, no. They'll just keep it. Liberals are trying their damnedest to make sure the money I spent in taxes will eventually make its way back to me if I need it. Conservatives are trying to grab it and run.

And using that system wouldn't make me a freeloader. It would mean I'm cashing out my investment until the point when I can start paying into it again. But conservatives' relationship with governing at this point has grown so toxic that they won't let $1 out of their sight even if it means they'll get $1.33 back later. All their faith is still tied up in the private financing that robbed them blind.
