I have a friend who played for the Eagles many years ago who received death threats after one game.  They had to phone it in back then.

Gees, I thought Eagles fans were rough.

Americans are probably bluffing. After the U.S. won a World Cup match in 1990 the Colombian player who was credited with an own goal was killed after he returned home.

While a death threat is a little over the top, as a 49ers fan, I do understand it, considering that the Niners would be 12-2 right now if he hadn't missed two easy game-winning FGs in overtime (or hadn't also missed ones in regulation in those same two games for that matter).

There's an excellent 30 for 30 on that.  "The Two Escobars".  Very good documentary.  Very, very sad story.

Also, Mr. Angry Twitterer... please note the cops take death threats very seriously.

You quit, at least temporarily, over that? Look at the caps, the wording...this guy is as dumb as he probably is drunk. Even kickers shouldn't have a problem kicking (heh) this guy's ass.

He's a kicker.  It's probably far more dangerous to be construction worker, a UPS driver, or probably even a fry jockey at McDonald's than to be an NFL kicker.

Which is exactly why this death threat is so puzzling. It's not as if he's a threat to national security or anything.

He's been a threat to the 49ers' ability to win games lately, though.  In some people's minds, that might be even worse.

Probably not. The Secret Service declined to investigate the angry Twits that threatened to kill Romney if he was elected. Fark's rank and file Libs will deny it happened, or that it was horribly misconstrued, or just blame it on overall Republican lack of humor, or, more likely, that he SHOULD have been killed, you know, for just being him.

It's places like Twitter and the YouTube comment section that convince me that humans haven't evolved all that much. Sometimes I wonder why another species didn't take out humans before we started dominating Earth.

Who the hell threatens a kicker? He can only score three points at a time, at most. Wouldn't it make more sense to go after the QB who fails to lead the team into the end zone in the first place (not that any player should be threatened at all)?

I simply cannot understand what Mike McCarthy is thinking by keeping him on the team. It reeks of hubris. It's going to seriously bite them in the ass.

Andy Reid's replacement as dumbest head coach. I hope Crosby blows the playoff game and i'm a Packers fan. It will serve the team right. Christ, Olindo Mare can at least hit 30 yarders without doinking it off the uprights

Bored kids, trolls, drunk people, etc. I think Akers should've just ignored the message and kept his account open. Unless he's posting extremely intimate information on there, he should be fine.

Maybe I've just been on the internet too long, but it's hard for me to take any of these clowns seriously unless they are going into extreme detail about their threats. I mean, Stephen Jackson wanting to go in Ibaka's mouth was more disturbing than this.

As a Packer fan, this is exactly what I was thinking. I had a Bears' fan over last week, who hasn't been watching Packer games and I told him, "You are going to see more air time given to a kicker than you have ever seen in a game before."

I hope Packer fans are classy enough not to threaten him but sadly, he has another 30 yard miss and I think he might do it himself.

Just once I'd like to see someone reply to this with some variation of "come at me bro". It's not like they have the balls to actually attack him.

Of course there's always that teensy tiny chance so that's why he should do it and not me.

But seriously, he's been completely useless most of the season. Harbaugh should give him an ultimatum: make 8/10 FG from the 25 yard line or be benched

Akers is struggling with a Pelvis injury cut him some slack he was money for us when we needed him last year he'll get it together.

Akers under 40: 18-20
40-49: 6-10
50+: 1-5

He's just as good as he was last year except for the really long ones. The only problem is the misses have been at really bad times.

2012-12-21 11:41:11 AM
surprised this hasn't happened to Joe Flacco yet. That bum hasn't thrown a complete pass beyond the line of scrimmage in 3 weeks. Hoping he goes the way of Cam Cameron for Christmas.

Akers was one of my favorite Eagles during that era for some reason.

He was a pretty good tackler for a kicker.

Idiot kicker. You know, accuracy isn't the most important thing. As any Colts fan can tell you, even being the most accurate kicker means little if the only missed kicks are the clutch kicks.

/I miss Hunter Smith though, "the most accurate holder."

thix reminds me of the time a cfl kicker had his yard filled with manure because he had missed a game winning field goal. pretty sure it was a playoff game
