The plan to run around distributing chocolate revolvers was also not very well thought out.

Nicely done.

The officer said [George's Facebook page] "appeared to have a very Gothic and dark theme," with references to gangs and fighting.

A police escort from the school bus to the principal's office? That's what Tupac was gangsta rappin' about back in the day.

Oh, and "George also says he gets into other holidays... and that bringing in baked goods or snacks to share with other students is common for his family."

Colorado University brownie, anyone?

According to a police incident report, an officer then interviewed the parent and reviewed George's Facebook page. The officer said it "appeared to have a very Gothic and dark theme," with references to gangs and fighting.

Kid is a dumbass and the Santa thing appears to be more of a prank/stunt than an innocent spreading of Christmas cheer. This is the type of kid I farking hated in high school. That said, he shouldn't be suspended. What do you write on the suspension paperwork? Suspended for a facebook status that only seems threatening in light of recent events? Suspended for almost dressing up in costume and being a nuisance? Suspended because a few angry parents called and facebook derp?

Guessing the last one.

So helicopter parents nationwide are scouring Facebook pages of kids in their local districts determined to spot potential threats?

America. F*ck yeah.

2012-12-20 04:50:24 PM
Really? The cops investigated, determined that it was not a malicious threat, and the school STILL wanted to suspend the guy? I don't know if this is a case of a principal wanting to be in the spotlight, zero tolerance gone amok, or just a moron in charge of an entire school. Maybe it's equal parts of all 3: A moron who wants to be in the spotlight misinterpreting a zero tolerance policy in the school... Yeah, that's probably it.

2012-12-20 04:50:40 PM
Really, are we that paranoid now?!

FTFA: John George III said "taking something innocent like this and turning it into, like, World War II, it's ridiculous."

Yes, because an "unfair" suspension from school over a facebook update is exactly like the genocide of more than ten million people.

/If only Churchill hadn't misread Hitler's Gestapobook update...

Maybe this will help put the utter stupidity of both the student and school system in perspective.

If I were one of the Newtown parents that lost a child I would be so farking pissed at all of this bullshiat hysteria. They had a real tragedy occur, not this cry baby facebook update nonsense. Shame on you, America. My kid's school has sent out 2 automated messages and gone on lockdown once over stupid BS.

We got a letter home today because there was a medical emergency with one student that required EMS.

Yeah, people are uptight.

2012-12-20 05:23:08 PM
Campbell issued a news release Wednesday calling the Facebook post "disturbing," and said George was suspended while the school investigated.

Anyone else think that is an overreaction considering the cops checked out his story and it seemed legit?

2012-12-20 05:36:39 PM
Other Facebook posts that could be perceived as threats:

"I can't wait for school tomorrow!"

"Tomorrow is gonna be a day to remember!"

"So excited about my school plans for tomorrow!"

FTA: "Students of cchs ur in for a big surprise tomorrow (let the games begin)."

I am more curious about the 'games' part. Is that Fun and Games, Winter Games, or maybe 'Hunger Games'?

Not having seen more of the movie than a bunch of young (school-aged?) kids waiting for the timer to run out and then go hack each other to pieces, I wouldn't be suprised if the school principal may be asking the same type of question.

2012-12-20 07:16:58 PM
that reaction from the school would make me mad enough to go in there and start blastin'

/metaphorically speaking

A friend from Georgia describes Macon as the closest thing Georgia has to Darfur or the West Bank. Living in the insulated suburbs of a place like that must do some strange things to your brain.

except, he does this for other holidays.

It's an overreaction that the authorities refuse to let go of.
