Tatarize: Hitler was Christian. He was Catholic with strong Lutheran leanings. Luther pretty much wrote the entire outline for the holocaust in "The Jews and Their Lies." His version also included some ahistorical nonsense that said that Jesus was Aryan and not Jewish. It's a bit like that White Jesus who is very popular throughout most of Europe and America but they took it seriously along with a holocaust-denier's worth of really bad counterfactual historical claims to make it seem true. Hitler at one point compared himself to Moses taking his people to the promised land without being able to see it himself. -- The Hitler Table talks are mostly a hoax, the only translation we typically get in English is a fraud and adjusted by some crazy french guy.

There is a difference between being baptized a Catholic as a child and being a practicing Catholic as an adult. There is more than enough evidence that Hitler has turned is back on religion completely by the time he took over Germany.

Ruling a nation with a population that is Christian, a skillful propagandist plays the religious card. He has a good meal and provides some photographers some opportunities to take shots of him in front of a Christmas tree. If he wasn't a Christian, he certainly did some far more cynical actions than posing for Yule photos.

BTW, it makes me want to scheissen in my Lederhosen at the simpletons who think that Hitler was a hard-core Christian *or* a hard-core atheist. From what I read on him, I get the impression that he was into some sort of occult Teutonic neo-paganism--Wagnerian opera stuff with fat Brunhildes on horseback, that kind of stuff. I think that True Believers in general are lying to themselves.

Consider this: the ultimate goal of Christianity is to be united with Jeebus in Heaven. Read through the New Testament, and it's screamingly obvious that Jeebus was very, very anti-materialistic (e.g. the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus) and Christianity is ultimately a death cult. Really, this world is supposedly a 'vale of tears' that's only meant to punish humanity for Original Sin and we don't really start living until we're dead.

If I knew with absolute certainty that I was only a heartbeat away from a never-ending Cosmic Disneyland where I'd be a billion trillion times better off than any Earthly billionaire, I would run, not walk, to the nearest tall building and joyously fling myself off knowing that I'll be with Jeebus forever in a few moments.

Even if suicide were a sin that would keep a person out of Heaven, I would probably keep a loose grip on my life anyways as Heaven is the ultimate goal. I'd probably take Jeebus seriously when he told the Rich Young Man to 'go sell all that thou hast and come follow me'--if I were truly convinced that I'd be a quadrillionaire in Heaven, I think I could endure a mere three-score-and-ten years of poverty as an itinerant preacher. And if God did let me starve to death, well that just means I'd get into Heaven quicker. And, of course, I'd preach in the nastiest parts of the world knowing full well that if I'm martyred, I'd get to Heaven quicker.

At the very, very, very least, I'd probably rejoice if I ever found out that I had a terminal illness. I'd spend the last few weeks of my life dancing with joy that I'm soon going home to see Jeebus forever.

So, why do True Believers seem to cling to life just as passionately as any atheist, even more so? Is it that, deep down, they really don't think there's a Heaven waiting for them on the other end of the coffin? I've posed this question many times, and about the only half-baked answer True Believers can seem to come up with is that they'd miss their Earthly family. OK, I'll accept that--if they're under 50. If they're over 50, they presumably have more family members waiting for them in Heaven than they have here on Earth.

And that's just one of the many bits of hypocrisy that's convinced me that most True Believers doubt their faith deep down...
