I'm no capologist but from what I've read, if they release him, they're on the hook for a massive salary cap hit whereas a trade lessens the dent.  but who's gonna take him?  Oh.  That's right.  I know who.  With a really down QB FA crop (Flacco is the "best", and he ain't going anywhere, the rest being dreck like Tarvaris Jackson, I think Leinart, Jason Campbell and a couple of other guys no one's ever heard of), I think the freaking Cardinals will make a run at him.  the proverbial "change of scenery" and bring him closer to home.

"For some reason, it hasn't panned out to my expectations -- and maybe not Tim's, either," said Ryan, who has insisted the Tebow trade wasn't forced upon him by ownership.

I don't feel like this is entirely true.

Both Arizona and KC would be upgraded if they went with Sanchez.

wow, thanks for the piercing analysis;  a 5-9 team that has started 3 QBs this season and have given the keys to a 6th round draft pick out of QB factory San Diego State has a bad QB situation.  You should write for ESPN.

Lets all point and laugh at the Jets and Cardinals.

I hope he doesn't go to Buffalo. We don't have any receivers either. And nothin' for nothin'  but I think I'd rather have Tebow

crazy talk!

I'll let him play on my indoor soccer team for the last two games of the season if the Jets eat the salary. I'm tired of playing goalie and it'd be nice to have someone adept at falling on the ball in the net.

2012-12-20 12:06:15 PM
I'm sure the Raiders would be happy to give the Jets a sack of kicking tees for him.

2012-12-20 12:06:17 PM
So the Jets trade Sanchez and Tebow and pick up Vick, unless he goes to Buffalo. That's what the internet is telling me right now.

I feel Tony Sparano is partially to blame for Sanchez's suckitude. Sure, he won't be awesome, but I think if you move him to a system that actually has an offensive coordinator and not a one-trick pony, you'll see a different, somewhat better Sanchez than you did this year.

Also, all that bullshiat talk from Mike and Mike this morning about taking Vick over Sanchez. Jesus Christ they're dumb sometimes.

Remember that next season the salary floor kicks in and teams must spend a minimum of 90% of the salary cap. We could see an NBA type trade here, namely the Jets send Sanchez AND a draft pick somewhere for nothing just to off-load Sanchez's contract.

Yeah, but when he tries to throw the ball out after the save an opposing striker will intercept it and score.

They're going to cut Vick anyway before the Superbowl winners even get to Disneyworld to get out from under that comically-terrible contract. At that point their options are either go with Foles next year, completely reach for a QB in the draft since they probably won't be getting Geno Smith, or overpay for mediocre free agent QB like Matt Moore or Jason Campbell. Why not take a chance that Sanchez has just been saddled with a terrible coaching staff/completely overrated talent the past couple years?

Belichick used Matt Cassel to lead the Pats to an 11-5 record when Brady got injured. Hell Cassel had two 400 plus yard games that season, something Brady never did in a season.

Have the Pats pick up Sanchez as a backup for next season. Why not get a half decent backup on the Jets' dime?  Obviously New England has a system in place to support any QB.

It is, but they're not getting anyone else in there for significantly less unless they just go completely bottom of the barrel and sign Tarvaris Jackson or Brady Quinn. There's a lot of teams out there that will be looking for QB's, and not enough 1st round rookie talent this year to fill all the holes. If Matt Flynn got $8.5 a year last season, Moore or maybe someone like Drew Stanton or Chase Daniels might get close to that.

I'm not sure there's a QB in this draft that will be as good as Kirk Cousins...who was a 4th rounder.

But it is true. Ryan wanted Tebow signed because last season Tim was the only person in the NFL with more of a media circus than the Jets. Rex could not let that stand, so he had him signed.

It's been said the easiest way to silence a politician is to make them Vice President. Ryan figured he could pull the same stunt with Tebow and keep the Jets in the spotlight.

Holy Tebow. I heard that segment too. Golic summed it up nicely, "Are you taking Tom Brady off the field for Tim Tebow?" ESPN talking points are so annoying. I really wish Dan Patrick was on at 7 AM; he's much more tolerable even though he brings the derp from time to time.

While it's not likely that Ken Whisenhunt will be around next year to further accelerate the decline of Sanchez's career, I understand that the Cardinals might be thinking Todd Haley as his successor. That would really work well with the rate of decline of Sanchez's career.

What you saw in 2009-10 was that if you build a great team around him...he can be decent, with the occasional brilliant game. beating the Patriots at NE...was a brilliant game.

But if the rest of the team is mediocre, he can't carry them at all. 13 TD, 17 INT, and 8 fumbles this season...That's 2 turnovers for each TD.

Sanchez's biggest problem is that he hasn't really been improving in any category in the last 4 years.

Using the eyeball test as opposed to pure stats, qbs who in my opinion are worse than sanchez

Matt Cassel (KC)
Brady Quinn (KC)
John Skelton (AZ)
Chad Henne (Jac)

that is it, thats the list maybe he could hold a clipboard somewhere

yeah.....greenie has been pretty damn insufferable this week alone on Tebow.  couple days ago he was like, "a year ago he was the hottest free agent commodity!" Golic was like, "no he wasn't.  only two teams wnated him:  the Jets nad Jacksonville, Greenie.  He wasn't 'hot' at all."  and greenie is like, ".......uhhh......i guess you're right."

Prey4reign: While it's not likely that Ken Whisenhunt will be around next year to further accelerate the decline of Sanchez's career, I understand that the Cardinals might be thinking Todd Haley as his successor.

I think Whiz survives Bloody Monday / Black Monday but not much longer.  He supposedly has player personnel (that is, quasi-GM) decisions in his contract, and that's on eo the organization's most spectacular failures under his watch.  Yeah, Patrick Peterson, but.....so many picks have just not panned out.

so the chatter locally is that he'll be asked to relinquish player personnel, but some think he will refuse and force the team to fire him and thus, eat the $5.5M or whatever.

so think there will be some half-assed negoatiations about what is in his contract but ultimately, he won't do it, so he'll be fired after about a week or so.

(keep in mind time will be of the essence with so many jobs opening up and the playoff teams that can't negotiate....)

It seems to me that the Jets owner and/or GM decided he/they wanted the Tebow circus in town and brought in Sparano to make that offense work. Rex didn't want it and this debacle of a season is what you get. The Jets are farked with the lack of talent they have on offense.

Lets look at a Mock Draft board

ansas City Chiefs: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
This pick largely depends on what happens with Scott Pioli. If he's fired, as the awesome @saveourchiefs movement is pushing for, this selection will be used on a quarterback. There currently is no signal-caller worth taking No. 1 overall, but that could easily change. Remember two years ago when ESPN was mocking Da'Quan Bowers and Nick Fairley to the Panthers? Well, Cam Newton ballooned to the top, as will some other quarterback this year. If not, the Chiefs could always trade down.

If Pioli is retained, he'll pick Luke Joeckel, Manti Te'o or Star Lotulelei and then go for Mike Glennon in the second round. I've heard from a reliable source that Pioli really likes Glennon. Mel Kiper, by the way, stated that Glennon could be the first signal-caller off the board, so maybe the Wolfpack product will be the quarterback who rises to the top of the draft. A lot will change over the next four months.

So if we get a new GM we might get a QB drafted #1 overall and future bust by the chefs

I doubt the Jests will trade him in division (which means no buffalo)

Jags might draft QB in the second round (teebus or not)

Cards might draft a QB in the second round

Browns and chargers might draft in the third

Cowboys might draft in the third

49ers might draft in the third

however only the Jags, Cards, and Bills are really in the market for a new starter (and maybe the JEST)

Sadly, I don't think that is entirely correct. Not every other team.

Cardinals will not pay for his ridiculous contract. He is no better than Kolb.

Dreaming if you think the bidwells pay for that contract.

As a Niners fan, I'm hopeful that the dearth of QB's in the both the free agent market and the draft lead to a team deciding that it needs to trade for Alex Smith, rather than just waiting for the Niners to cut him.

I'm not dreaming big, but perhaps a 3rd or 4th rounder? Hell, if Kevin freaking Kolb can get two 2nds, maybe even that isn't out of the question.

Ive seen glimpses that give me hope for ponder (although it might just be defenses keying to stop AP and they dont give a rats ass what ponder does) but given the situation it seems like a bad move to swap out a qb on winning team for a guy like sanchez.

Gabbert i think has a work ethic question, from what ive seen and read the talent is all there but does he have a head full of rocks (testeverde george kind of guy) or someone who will eventually get it, in my awful opinion (imao) id rather have gabbert over sanchez, particularly if you start to consider things like contracts. (gabbert is 3 or 4 mil a year).
