Why? It's harmless, it gets attention, and it's obvious. He walked into a school with a 2x4 with "HIGH POWERED RIFLE" written on it. When he tells a judge he was making a point about security, there will be corroborating evidence. He didn't bring a firearm, or an imitation; he brought a prop. He was arrested--this shows he wasn't supposed to be there, so he could have brought a firearm because ... he wasn't supposed to have that there either, same rules.

Now people will ask him to explain himself. And they'll be listening.
